My Father, Brian Prescott, was a Villa fan his whole life, as are all of his children and grandchildren (bar one): we share his passion. We all owe a huge debt to Dean Smith and Unai Emery, for the joy they brought him in his final years. None more so than for you, Pete; he loved your shows, was overjoyed when you mentioned him, and your final tribute is greatly appreciated by us all. You are one of the World's good guys. Hi Pete, the “setting villa up for a fall“ quote is quite poignant. We, and more accurately Unai, find ourselves in an unusually high league position which has reluctantly pushed us in to title conversations which was never on the remit and is taking away from the brilliant business we are doing and subsequent build we are in the process of!. The signing of a player with the instigation of an immediate loan to his parent club until summer is mind blowing business and I think this is the template for the team moving forward, ie sustainable future proofing via acquisition of young talent that can be moulded and nurtured, and bar any free transfers I’d be surprised if we see big players come through the door as now we will be physically creating them UTV

Wonderful show Pete, love the balance, and the upbeat tendency of your message. Find criticism of our lads very difficult, even in defeat, I love AVFC so much, and Unai is truly a treasure. That tackle on Alex Moreno by the corner flag was outrageous, absolutely a straight red, can't bring myself to name the offender, he makes my blood boil!

I attended the online funeral for a very good friend, Mary. She was a Villan born and bred and it was through her that I have gotten to my one and only game at Villa Park a few years ago - she attended for her son to take me into the Holte End for a game against Arsenal. Rest in Peace Mary, another Holte Ender in the sky!
Carlos getting booked for throwing the ball away while one of the Everton players kicked the ball away and didn’t get booked was another one to add to the list.

Great show Pete. I agree on your number 1 moment. I would like to see a stat on how many of our 43 points can be arguably credited to Emi. I would guess that the number would be surprising. He has been superb this season, and he has been getting busier of late.
Goalkeeper getting busy is an indicator that our defense is certainly lacking! But non the less UTV!

Enjoyable show again👍. We will be fine. Created plenty and conceded few chances. Another day Win comfortably. Every side outside Top 2 has blips. Not much to choose between Ourselves, Arsenal and Spurs …I can still seeing us finishing above both. Very glad for the Block facility on Twitter as some of our fans are, to put it mildly, ludicrous.

Great show Pete, as always. Absolutely right about Tarkowski.
Excellent show as always. The ref here was spectacularly poor. The VAR undeniably inept. However, the draw did not disappoint as much as the loss at MU. There is a major culture shift. To think about marketing our brand in a much bigger way than ever before. Being the biggest club in the midlands is nice, winning things is lovely, but we have to sell our brand, creating more income in multiple ways. This will put our business in profit and take care of FFP (at least partially) Our strategy is longer term whilst Emery has to deal with the immediate. Which is where most of the fans focus. Think I get it now.
The snow has been down here in Provo, Utah too! Inside activities definitely have their limits!

Another great analysis Pete, particularly on how dreadful the officiating was. I said after Brentford that David Coote shouldn't be anywhere near a game at any level so what happened during this game was of no surprise. Dycheball is just thuggery and Tarkowski should have been off on several occasions. Paul Tierney on VAR is just as clueless as you said. Well it's done now and hopefully we continue to move forward and get Pau back soon.

Was a crazy game but I did enjoy the drama
It was a scruffy, frustrating game but we didn’t do enough for the win and it was also a decent performance. I know a few toffees and they felt the same about Everton.
Robbed of a 100% Penalty by a crap ref.
Emery should have asked the Premier league to look at the performance of the ref and of the Everton players.

I knew it !!! Pete I’ve been saying this since the second it happened.
When they showed the var room and you can see them both sat there “TRYING”to draw the lines, there’s a moment where he said to his mate “it’s your call”
They weren’t stalling!!
He guessed and changed his mind half way through!

So the linesman didn’t see it , referee also ! Didn’t see it , nor did VAR … and they wonder why 😞 disgusting 🤮
It hardly decided the game, but the thing that niggled me the most was that when the first big fracas blew up, nobody in Villa really rose to it - a few words but no real aggression, pushing, squaring up, nothing like that.
But spineless referees see a situation like that and they open the playbook and it says "yellow card to a player on each side", so duly were they distributed. When nobody in Villa colours had done a thing to deserve one.
Great, well done for calling out the Everton thugs and the weak refereeing, it just goes on and on. God help the game
David coote in charge, game plays out exactly as it did vs Bournemouth - he spent whole game not controlling anything, letting constant little things go until they spill over into tempers flaring. And i'm not referring to soft fouls here - but the legs left in, the pushes and prickly stuff off the ball. Not once did he try to stop any of it.
He's utterly useless as a ref.
Villa were ok.
The second goal annoyed me more than the first one - though calling the foul on Lenglet a foul by him as mykolenko tries desperately to pull him out the box and falls over doing so was laughable. It's at best both of them.
Cootes has NO reason to blow his whistle before we put ball in the net for the second goal though.
Not only was there no foul to blow for - they are instructed not to for exactly the reason we see herre - VAR can't do anything because ref blew already.
Subjective but I. Would add Johan Cruyffto your list of Pele maradona. And beckenbeur
Durans flick at the end could have given such a different story! Still 1 point away and 3 points at home will get us CL football next year! Dyche eats nails and now he's teaching his players to eat them. Gladly we will not be playing this rugby team again this season again.
Hi Pete. I really enjoy your channel and I'm always looking out for your post match reviews above all other Villa channels. Can I please just make one request? Aston Villa are a team and should therefore be referred to as a collective noun. Using singular pronouns when referring to the Villa makes my brain feel weird. Tarkowski should have been sent off but not for the tackle on Moreno. The only way he could have gotten the ball was lunging the way he did so it was a fair tackle.
By your logic Mings should have been sent off against Liverpool and Arsenal last season. But he got a good part of the ball both times. Notice that Villa hardly protested the tackle because Tarkowski made a fair challenge... One of the few things he did that was fair that match.

You get criticised for having a physical team, this is no longer a Men’s game.
Be careful what you say, you have been relegated from the PL we haven’t, your spending will be scrutinised as the PL are looking with a fine tooth Comb to look to find discrepancies due to them being under parliamentary scrutiny over their self governance. It was not a good game against Villa but a point is a point.
Not that this deserves a reply but people are allowed to share their bias opinions on their own team's reports. Villa, unlike Everton, have been well managed for the last few years and so are quite happy to hand FFP a nit comb if they want one. Enjoy the championship, I certainly did

I thought it was just me with dyches thuggery. Tarkovskis tackle on Diaby reminded me of the Ben Mee tackle on Wesley. No booking either time. Just because a player gets the ball doesn't mean its not a foul when the defender cleans up the other player. Edit I wrote the comment before I watched the whole video.

Everton are an awful team, very little on display other than brute force, BUT...we need to start winning these games as we will miss out on champions league, which would be a massive game changer for the club.
