    Zeke’s bloodline is unlikely to impact the bloodline given the separation between lefteria and tantal. Monica, Vandam and Gondor really don’t resemble their ancestry, given they have Nia’s specific bloodline. I think they introduced enough outside blood to prevent degradation. That being said, Rex is the king, he needs a royal bloodline.

    Also of note is in the 1000 years between Future Redeemed and base Xenoblade3 the city was rescuing soldiers by grabbing them while they were still in pods instead of destroying their respective colony flameclock. On that note they were also keeping them in the cradles instead of releasing them so some of the pod/cradle clusters we see in the city may be hundreds of years old. One more thing to consider is that the city people have a derogatory term for someone who can’t trace their lineage to one of the six houses which is common for people who are usually in a minority (in this case minority meaning small number of people)

      Imo, we also can’t automatically assume that houseless people are the minority tbh (though I agree with you that they probably are). They could even be the majority. We have real life examples of minority populations ruling over majority populations and coining derogatory terms for them such as during apartheid era South Africa, etc. I’m not saying the city is like apartheid ZA, I’m just saying that it’s within the realm of possibilities that the “houseless” make up a large part of the population and that could lessen the chance of potential inbreeding.

    Well, I have to throw in some mitigating details here:
    1. Before the events of FR, the old City routinely brought in soldiers who would be "fresh blood". Every time those soldiers had offspring, even if it wasn't all of them, they'd be adding to the genetic stock of the City. We more or less have to assume this practice continued after the events of FR until the City got a self-sustaining population. And to remove complications, let's just assume that nearly all of the soldiers added to the City's population reach Homecoming and can't be reborn later (Noah & Mio are known exceptions); so no further muddying up the gene pool by repeat entries. It's arguable this practice ended well before the events of XC3, but there's no reason to doubt it continued after FR until they were a stable population; it's also plausible that Y figuring out how to make Ouroboros-proof Flame Clocks (though he never managed Monado-proof, or whatever we want to call them) could have put a stop to it. On a small note, the old City could add new soldiers to their population without an obvious way to break Flame Clocks like Shulk's & Rex' weapons; Riku also kept Lucky Seven to himself.
    2. There are "Houseless", those who can't trace their origins back to any particular House in the City. It's not clear if they outnumber those who belong to the City's Houses or not. They just might, and those of the Houses may be more like an aristocracy. Alternatively, apart from a central line of descendants, the Houses could be more like a "clan" and include all the subjects/vassals/others of the leading families; still fair to say there's no proof of that being the case.
    3. Something I found in a bit random NPC banter (one Agnus Castle NPC on the docks after getting some freed prisoners back to the City), but apparently the City has more people than *Agnus* (as in all of the Colonies added up, though you could argue that's just the number of "active" soldiers in Agnus) based on the amount of food being shipped over. If I recall correctly, Ghondor Jr. implies there's roughly a thousand City prisoners at Agnus Castle; this is also sizable chunk of the City's population, as them coming back causes some disruptions simply because population spiked. This appears to be "video game logic" where the numbers shown in game are limited because of technology rather than an accurate representation of the number of people.
    There's a fair few factors to consider here which could easily mitigate the issue... but yeah, no denying that a lot of it is speculative. The City probably isn't "huge", but could be argued to be several thousand people; they probably had a relatively steady population (I'm guessing ~5,000) after reaching a manageable level that could sustain itself.
    Still, the best answer is that hopefully the City made a point of at last adding a few new soldiers to the gene pool every so often.

    • @ag9953
      @ag9953 5 месяцев назад +3

      Indeed, I'd also like to add to the first point by saying that altough by the time of the base game Monica expresses a displeasure for awakening rescued soldiers, feeling like the City would be taking advantage of them, no such feeling was ever expressed by the Liberators or the original Citizens, nor is there really any objection to taking in freed soldiers who are already alive, and in fact the City ends up taking in both Colony 15 and Ethel and Cammuravi during the events of the game.

  • @ag9953
    @ag9953 5 месяцев назад +3

    The people of the City all ended up with some degree of Ouroboros blood, but they're not descended from only 6 people, Future Redeemed shows a lot of survivors from the Liberators, the original City (All of whom seemed to be "clockless", as Panacea referred to them) and the previously freed socliders (Also clockless) built the second City, and there's plenty of NPCs in the main game City that do not correspond to any specific house.
    Anyone born from a clockless is also clockless, so while ultimately a thousand years of intermixing would result in most people having at least some genes of the original founders, a majority would not be descended directly from them and would still be clockless.

    Ignoring all the moral issues we have with it, I think there could be some interesting things going on here. Ignoring if this was actually planned, but all the people the come from alrest are descendent from the genetic material that Klaus returned to the world. These genetics could be constructed in a way to prevent the dangourus effects of inbreeding. IIRC the issues with inbreeding happen from recessive traits that become expressed since the children will get multiple copies of that gene. So if those "bad" genes just don't exist within the agnian population (Rex), then there would not be any physical issues with it. The wiki page for inbreeding says it's not uncommon in animals, and with scifi magic, maybe core crystals can make up for any genetic issues that would arise

    Alrest had the exact same problem if you don't think of the City or Alrest you see in game as an abstraction of how they are meant to be. The populations of Alrest and the City are likely meant to be higher than is shown in game making it likely that neither actually is in the bottom end of that minimum population range. Alrest however has one massive advantage in that Blades are present to introduce new genetic information when needed.

    My hot take is that Glimmer is the only baby confirmed to be biologically related to Rex.
    Agnian genetics combine colors of hair and eyes. It just so happens that the only one with both parents clearly referenced verbally, not merely alluded to via a photo, is also the only one that matches every other example of a child with confirmed parents: Glimmer.
    Kevesi look like their parent of the corresponding sex. Agnians combine colors. You can test this by looking at each child with confirmed parents.
    I do not take the photo as gospel when they have yet to directly address it. I take what has been stated in-game. Mio and the blond baby fail this test. Rex can act as a paternal figure as suggested within the photo and still not be blood related. Mio may be related to Nia, but her features do not reflect Rex as the father. I'd argue Rex acting as an adoptive father or a guardian (temporary or permanent) to a companion's kid is much, much more in character.
    Also, less incest.

Moebius has considerable cloning tech. Enough to maintain genetic material intact for millenia and splice together multiple species in a stable way. While the teory sounds good and all. I think ot doesnt apply to xenoblade. Just because its said that life in general was remade. Not following the normal. Xeno1 people are spawns of a giant beings both biological and mechanical. Xeno2 people were made from the ground up from new elements, no dna, the resemble crystals more. And this is explained in game. So xeno 3 people are not even people, but echoes? Simulations? Of the people of the other 2. While the studies apply to us, there is no reason to apply them to a fictional universe that also says that its people are different at a fundamental biological level than us. Of course, the mental damage is done, to us, but in universe it just doesnt apply.
