    Not sure what seems to have happened to the audio here. The narration seems to only be coming out of the left side, but everything is stereo on my PC. No-one seems to have been bothered by it yet, but just so you know, if you hear nothing in the Right then I'm talking in the left...

    LOVE your inclusion of disability access and honestly think the theme park sim genre could benefit from a mechanical incentive to make parks disability accessible, alongisde also adding stuff like maintenance access and emergency escape routes and service vehicle routes. My youngest brother is disabled and it always rubs us the wrong way when real world attractions and theme parks don't have good disability access.

    • @Nerdchacho
      @Nerdchacho  2 года назад +11

      It is an important park of theme park design nowadays.. and it also doesn't stop at ambulatory needs now either, theme parks also have to consider sensory needs too. I do wish that PlanCo did have something more inclusive like this, but at the same time I do get why they wouldn't bother. It is a nice touch to add them in and everything I design has an element of disability access added in - even down to who can ride (some rides are not suitable for wheelchair users for example). I can totally appreciate how frustrating it must be in real life..

  • @AdamGbl95

    Great tips. But I think it’s also a good idea to start off building a simple, flat park that’s spread out to get the basics. Then to add trees and other scenery items. Then you can start a new park and make it more realistic. Getting the basics down first is a great foundation for getting the hang of controls and visualizing ideas for making it better.

  • @Jacob-ec6st
    @Jacob-ec6st 2 года назад +22

    It would be really cool to have a sort of pre planned layout that we could download. Like similar to how the in game scenarios are a very bare bones park. But laid out similar to the "basic" park in the beginning of this video, and then we fill in with our own designs. I feel like I'm good at building individual items, but sometimes integrating them with a larger park as a whole is difficult. So a realistic pre planned park layout could help bridge the gap for people like me that struggle to take things to the next level.

    • @Nerdchacho
      @Nerdchacho  2 года назад +10

      What a good idea.... I do have it on a massive list of things to do... "Starter versions" of parks I've done - as they're called. This is literally just the Entrance, turnstiles, car parks and admin.. The rest is up to you to do. Trouble is, with massive parks, it isn't an easy task, it would easily take hours per park..

    • @Nerdchacho
      @Nerdchacho  2 года назад +1

      Yay! Welcome aboard! Thanks for coming along. The majority of rollercoasters in the UK are legally obligated to be "accessible" but there is some room for improvement across the whole industry. Modern coasters are adopting this far better and far quicker but that is also driven by the policies in the Park operating them. The problem isn't always that the coaster isn't accessible, it is that the park doesn't fully understand guests who need accessible facilities.

    I have actually decided to build a park that is uhh... a bit more ambitious? if you could call it that? Sacrificing some of the "Park realism" for the individual theme realism, so the guests can fully immerse themselves in the worlds created. Basically there's four themes that act as completely separate locations with their own vibe and layout. They're realistic, but for what they're supposed to be, not for a park. Fairytale section is a town carnaval, so there are streets and alleyways you can go through and buy things. irl the vendors would actually be dressed as medieval folk and sell stuff like jam or sweets. But on the other side, the Crook's Hideout section is fully tropical and partially in water.
    In practice what that looks like is any modern buildings or staff areas are either disguised as part of the world, or out of view.

Enjoy all of the tiny little details Frontier put into it to make it "2016 alive". Put at least 1000 hours in "just playing" before you even try.. You'll need to know the game inside out to do it and for some people that's not fun.. Get bored with the "game" part of it before you try and break it..

    Hey man just wanted to say what an amazing job you do at bringing PlanCo parks to life with realism. I so desperately want to start making realistic parks of my own but I'm always put off by the big empty spaces a new park brings. I always find my self starting numerous sandbox files and being too daunted to start committing to building a full park since I have no knowledge of how to go about building things to what I imagine. Do you have a sort of preference of how you started out making parks and developing them into these almost diorama type scenes?

    • @Nerdchacho
      @Nerdchacho  3 года назад +3

      I tend to stick to the parks I've visited and are familiar with... It is way easier to build from what you know - the rest comes after that. Once you understand the under-layer of realism (how and why things work) that starts to influence how you design things because you think practically rather than decorative. Realism isn't always about what you see, but how it behaves in the real world - it is an under layer that makes it feel real. Ultimately, I've made a park story in my head.. I know what attractions I want and in what groups, then I build from there. I don't always plan where things will be in advance because it changes all the time - as seen with the rapids in Raygate lake - the proposed placement changed 8 times before I settled on where it is now.. and Drakeford Manor was in 4 places first...

    • @Nerdchacho
      @Nerdchacho  3 года назад +1

      What an awesome question! I do a mix of both.. I go for realistic layouts but also aim for all green where possible. But, for some coaster types and the way that the EFN rating is calculated, all green isn't possible. So, in Raygate Lake some of the "E"s are around 5 even though they use a realistic layout. I tend to use real-life design and specification documents I have at work for elements of the coasters to make sure that they are as real as can be, but some-times some "game based decisions" need to be made too as a trade-off between real and gameplay...

    wow such a flood of information and glad this is only an introduction and that you are going to enlarge. So many things you mentioned (car/coach parks, a main road (where?!) maintenance yards, offices, recycling centre, lockers .... all those things must surely just be for aesthetic rather than actual working things surely? I'm playing sandbox tropical and there's an entrance through a tunnel and no roads etc so are you talking about a different scenario please? Where are all those lockers, vending machines you mentioned? I notice you're playing currently and as a fairly new player, I shall subscribe and check out your other videos. • @Nerdchacho
      @Nerdchacho  3 года назад

      Wow! Loads of questions there! love it! Lemme get started on these:
      You're right, car parks and stuff are all for aesthetics. They don't function in game but they need to be in your park for it to feel real..
      You'll need to create the roads, car parks, tunnels etc for yourself - the maps we get given just have spawn points and a path. As players, we need to make the rest..
      The lockers, vending machines etc - these are all Theme Makers Toolkit (TMTK) custom items for the PC & Mac version. They aren't in game as a standard. These are created by other players and uploaded to the Steam Workshop - there isn't a Console equivalent just yet.
      I've loaded all of the how-to vids into a Playlist and each video has the contents in the Description to help with searching. I think that is about as good as I can get on RUclips

      It is sort of both.. My career, while not IN design, works very closely with those who do and because of what I do I have to learn everything they do to understand their requirements for what I actually do.. if that makes sense? So, I don't design rides, areas and parks professionally, I have to understand it to do my job.. :)

    Hi, I have the console version, so I don’t know if it’s my case, but some of the things I have seen in the video are not included in my game; are they in a deluxe version? I have them all except for the studios version and ghostbusters version.
    There are so many gadgets and details that I have never seen.
    I hope you could answer to my question, thank you

      There will be an element of things that you won't have if you don't have Ghostbusters and Studios. The chain link fence for example comes from Studios pack...
      PC does also have access to Thememakers Toolkit (TMTK) which allows other users to create assets for the game and load them in. I use a lot of them in my builds too.

    • @Nerdchacho

      Slope the land, colour it sand and then fill the lowest part with water.
      If you struggle to fill with water, check the height of the land outside the park boundary.. you'll need to make sure that your "sea" is lower than the outer boundary. The best map to use for this is the Tropical map because that is relatively flat. You can't get rid of the trees or hills in the background outside the map - that is impossible.

    A cool real life example for fences is this one from Disneyland ruclips.net/video/VgRYdx3mbh8/видео.html They used to not have fences and people would walk all over the landscaping.

    • @Nerdchacho
      @Nerdchacho  3 года назад +1

      That's a really interesting watch!! There is defo something psychological when it comes to fences to protect landscaping. A few of our parks had this issue too.. people would create shortcuts or walk through flowerbeds etc, but put an ankle-to-knee height fence in and they suddenly stop - even if it would take NO effort to walk over. Same with low level walls too. One of our over-sees parks just put low level walls on raised landscaped areas and suddenly people stopped using them to sit on. Never under estimate the power of a good fence! haha

      @@chickendinner2562 that suggests to me that you're not designing them right then.. it is either too fast, too tight, not banked enough or trying to do too much in a short space.
