    Hey, Melissa. I know pests can be stressful but assume all new plants have pests. I do that and it is less shocking and I won't go though ups and downs of shock and sadness. Instead of would be shocked if they don't have pests and be happy and feels like a bonous. 😂

    Scales and mealybugs have waxy coat and/or shell. Even if the spray is effective, it cannot reach the bug. The tiny babies hide in gaps and roots. You just cannot see them. 3 years ago, I bought a small pot of Crassula Calico Kitten. After I sprayed and cleaned repeatedly, the bugs would show up in a few months, sometimes, half a year later. I live in zone 6b. I left the smallish hanging basket outside for the entire summer till December. When the temperature was only slightly above freezing, in my sheltered, isolated, under the deck location. The rain also freely flushed the soil. After that, the mealybugs did not come back the second year. After 2 years without any mealybugs, I claim victory.

      Hi there! I have a plant shop so a lot of plants I purchased or have been gifted this year has been with that in mind. I propagate and grow everything I sell. I don’t think having a wide variety of plants for my shop is a bad thing. Also, if I get a new plant and I’m no longer interested in growing or selling it then I can easily put it up on my site. I’m in no way telling anyone to buy more plants or promoting over consumption. So many people comment that they love to watch my unboxing videos so they can get an idea of maybe where to purchase from or how people package plants. You can definitely skip haul videos if you’re not into them. This is my job and receiving plant mail is a part of that. I’m rarely promoting “stuff” or going TJ maxx shopping every day in my personal time 😊

    Maybe for the next unboxing you should have some pest spray and soap an water ready. Just in case you need it. Pest from other countries are stronger then ones here. And they are resistant to , chemicals from here. So maybe , just to be on the safe side, and so that you don’t take pest inside to your other babies. I’m so sorry you have that they accidentally send you scale 😮‍💨

      I was a little aggressive this time 😂 it depends on what you’re wanting out of it. You can have access to more rare plants usually at a lower cost. There’s definitely risks like potential pests or plants not making it but depending on where you purchase from they might have a live arrival guarantee if something happens. I would definitely check the website or reach out with questions before committing. I enjoy the process and don’t mind rehabbing plants so I think it’s worth it 😊

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  19 часов назад

      Sorry about your online shopping experiences and that you don't get what is advertised. Most of my collection is purchased online and it offers a way to get more rare plants that you can't get at your local shops. I'm not sure where you're located but there's a lot of great and honest shops out there that take care of their plants and package well. I find plants often times at stores have pests and they aren't looked over that well. Shipping in moss is more cost effective and some places have stricter policies about plants being shipped in soil with import regulations and potentially bringing in pests that can affect crops.

      They honestly arrived pretty well as far as the foliage the anthuriums especially. Some rotting roots and yellowing is totally expected. Granted I left them outside for 2 nights but they’re doing well so far after cleaning them up and putting them in water. The albo is a little iffy with the stem rot though.
