When you have that many mealies it’s so much easier to just put alcohol in a spray bottle and spray whole branch in shower then soapy water spray instead of hours dabbing them off! And you can get it in all the cracks and hiding spots ❤

I can’t remember which RUclipsr it was,but she uses a refillable paint pens to fill up with alcohol and just puts a drop on the mealies that are hard to reach. I ordered a few small refillable artist bottles on Temu and used it first time yesterday,oh my goodness does it work or what!! They come with very fine tips and so cheap, work wonders….👍🏼🤞

I agree. Spraying is the best way to be sure you get them all and it doesn't seem to harm the plant at all. I find that 50/50 water alcohol works just as well without rinsing after. I use one of those fine mist pump bottles.

The Sober Plant Guy channel has a pest treatment/preventative spray using Castile soap (tea tree & peppermint varieties,) hydrogen peroxide, and alcohol mixed with water. Put it in a pump sprayer so you can spread a fine mist of it all over the plants. He says H2O2 explodes any mites on the plants, between that and the alcohol, most pests are killed. The tea tree Castile prevents mold and repels pests, pests usually don’t like peppermint either. Use it regularly as a preventative treatment on pest prone plants. I have not had any pest break outs (knock on wood,) it’s been great.

Hi! I am a new plant Mum, starting with an aloe Vera about a year ago- and now having a collection of about 25 plants mainly easy plants such as spider, succulents and crassulas. But after watching your videos, I now want to build my collection more! So I’ve just got a philodendron from my local garden centre!
I love watching your videos, they make me feel calm and it’s literally a highlight of my week! I know you have some loyal long term follows, but a tip from a new viewer is maybe you could do a video explaining things like soil compositions and why and just pretty basic care for new plant Mums? Thank you in advance and sending lots of love to you and your plant babies!! 🌱🪴xx

I put pure isopropyl alcohol (not watered down) in a spray bottle, stick plants in the bathtub and hose the entire plant down. I treat all new plants this way, especially imports. I’ve never had any plant be affected by it, other than ridding all the pests! It’s so much easier! Just be careful with breathing it in, make sure vents are on or open window! Sometimes I hold my breath and go quick 😂.

Hi Claire! Wow, I feel your pain. I just spent the entire summer battling mealybugs. They can sweep through your plants so quickly and reproduce in a way that puts rabbits to shame! It took me all summer to get things under control, and they still aren't completely gone. My husband thinks I'm nuts. I told him This Is WAR!!! Finally I ended up making a solution of rubbing alcohol, safer's soap, and neem oil. I made a couple of gallons and dipped my plants, as many of them as fit in the bucket. I also applied a systemic to the soil as well. I told you.... this is war. I live in Florida and I leave most plants outdoors all winter. It does get a bit chilly at night and we have one or 2 frosts a winter. I'm hoping that the cold will finish the job. But they reproduce so quickly... and the adults FLY!! I did not know that! I have been dealing with this for months and I cannot imagine having to do it indoors. Good luck!

I do a round of rubbing alcohol diluted with water and then spray into every nook and cranny along with drenching the soil to kill the adults and eggs. Let it sit a bit then shower to wash off the dead bugs and anything the alcohol might have missed. Then bust out my trusty homemade pesticide which consists of neem oil and the peppermint castille soap added to some water. Spray all the leaves and wipe down. Dont wash off. I've never had to repeat the treatment. The combination of neem and peppermint keeps everything away lol

I hope it does not sound condescending, but l am so proud of you for chopping up the Dubia, that must have been so difficult, and probably some will be mad at you for doing it. 29:40 The woodiness that forms on the stems and roots is called ‘corking’! It forms over time from movement to keep it stronger as it grows bigger! It’s a protective thing for plants! So cool but very hard! lol
33:07 I would totally chop that last bit of section on the pole in the pot (just on the stem), so that you can have every node activate and grow a full pot!
You know, I came across these really cool clear acrylic hanging window shelves that would look amazing in your windows! I think it would also open up and provide much more floor space for you. Especially if you get the ones with multiple shelves so it goes from top or bottom! Just a thought I had watching you have to maneuver through the shelves! ❤

You can also connect with a local ceramicist to either make a mold that you can have as a decor piece or make one or several leaf impressions into the clay and mount. A way that you can have a physical memory, other than video. Great conversation piece on your plant journey. Just a thought. 🌿

Is there a huge benefit to attacking mealies with cotton swabs vs an alcoholic spray? I couldn’t be bothered to sit and poke at each one, I use an alcohol mix when pest treating and it seems to work fine?
