  • Politicians and the press work for you, the American people, and at SmartHER News, we will never lose sight of that. Today we take a step back to discuss the first presidential debate of the 2024 election … without the clutter.
    Topics include:
    CNN’s debate formatting. Notable exchanges between the top-two Presidential candidates, including the viral golf exchange. The nuances of fact-checking on live television. A sampling of soundbites from political commentators and politicians. The polls, plus an important caveat. The questions Jenna would ask the candidates … their standard for the U.S. Presidency and the responsibility of protecting our children, the next generation. What’s next? (A Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity, lawmakers on the record about last night’s event, Fmr. Pres. Trump’s sentencing, and the unknown.) ... and we close with the final statement of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during the alternative debate he hosted last night.
    Thank you for believing in quick, concise, nonpartisan news. Real news for real people.

    I want long form discussions rather than a debate. These debates aren’t working for us anymore.

    Thanks for sharing and your analysis! I’m all for more depth versus several topics crammed into a short debate.

    I really appreciate your analysis & completely agree with what questions you would ask. As I watched the debate I felt like it was mainly about them comparing whose presidency was better instead of what they can do going forward. For example, the childcare issue was completely ignored by both of them.

    • @TGuard00014

      What’s “the childcare” issue?

    • @sarazfeyne
      @sarazfeyne 3 месяца назад

      At the debate, they were asked about their plan to tackle the high cost of childcare in America which has been on the rise but they both basically dodged the question. I recently left my teaching job to stay at home with my 2 year old daughter. One of the main reasons was childcare so it was just disappointing to me that they did not really address it.

    Wonder how all the SCOTUS rulings will affect how long this debate stays etched in people's minds? Some of the sensitive decisions will fire people up in different ways that will make them forget this or make them more resolute in how they feel.

    Great debriefing of the debate. Loved your points about what questions should be asked of these candidates to get information that's different than what we already know. And to that point, Dr. Phil has interviewed both Donald Trump and RFK Jr and it seems that he might be asking better questions than what we saw in this first debate

    Great content. The problem is that the parties do not care what is important to all Americans. Big money control Congress and looks like the Supreme Court now!

    I appreciate your insight and knowledge in the news arena and appreciate your attempt to provide a balanced news source. But, I noticed that in your email you reference several opinions from NY Times, an extremely liberal news source, but you did not balance that with opinions from the conservative voice.
    You showed clips from Newsome and Harris, but none from the conservative voice.
    Your question, “why do they want to be president and what is important to them” was addressed when Trump kept going back to the border issue. That IS important to everyone I know. You showed Biden’s response to abortion, but not Trump, who said he pushed it back out to each state. This was a very partisan view on the debate.

    • @doubleandy
      @doubleandy 3 месяца назад

      I don't think showing clips of Newsome or Harris is biased at all. As Jenna mentioned, their names are being mentioned as replacements for Biden. Seems fair game to me to show their responses to this

    • @TGuard00014
      @TGuard00014 3 месяца назад +1

      There’s no need to use her limited time to “balance” this coverage with a conservative voice/opinion. Conservatives have been saying Biden lost his mind since 2020. Everyone from the far right to just short of complete TDS lunacy agrees that Trump’s performance was more mellow and Presidential than previous debates. Maybe that’s because of format or maybe he’s trying to act more like people expect a President to act in the hopes of courting some of those who are now politically homeless. Trump did fine, Biden imploded for the world to see. That’s where the story is.

      As I was explaining my frustration to my 14 year old, I realized what's bothering me. It's been decades of presidents that continue to campaign throughout their presidency. All they actually do is campaign. I'd like to see someone get to work.

    To be clear I have never voted for DJT. I also appreciate much of your work. However, I think this extended video is an example of “apparent non-partisanship” but it does seem pretty clear that there were numerous times where you subtly criticized DJT or defended President Biden.
    Ironically, when you were talking about how things can be lost when information isn’t delivered clearly, you became very unclear and waffled a bit on the fact that the Boarder Union made it clear that Joe Biden lied or misled when he said they endorsed him.

      Non-partisanship doesn’t mean that you do not ever criticize or support a position taken by a candidate or their behavior, it means that you do so based on the merits and not their political affiliation.
