When I used to live in the UK, 2009 to 12, I went to Hungary to get my teeth done. So, you may want to look into combining a holiday with yout teeth job.
Not all of us in Canada is under snow. I live in Victoria BC and like you we can work in the garden most of the year, no snow so far this year here. I am still harvesting leeks, lettuce, parsnips and a few other plants.
Rhubarb be fine… tough as old boots… dig it up and replant it … straight into the ground… job done 🎉
I should definitely be more grateful for our winter climate haha I'll be splitting my rhubarb soon as well so this was good to know about digging it all up and then splitting, thank you!
Hope your day did improve, you persevered through it and got jobs done. Yes under snow here in Ontario, Canada, and not very happy about it. lol. I hope you and Jess are well.
You should feel good about how much you have gotten done! Good on you!
Thank you so much 😊
I’m in the southern parts of Australia, in the middle of the first really hot summer for years. Yesterday it was 40 degrees. And we’ve got multiple days of the same coming next week. Been trying to find that fine line between watering enough and watering too much. Some things are bolting, some things are withering. Argh!
Hi JB, your raised beds look lovely, and good job filling them up too. I have raised beds and barked paths too, and it's the best decision as its so much easier. £5000, oh my God! If it's a permanent fix for your teeth, then go for it. If it isn't, weigh up your options. Just dig the whole rhubarb up, they are resilient, the best time to do it, and split it and replant, it will be fine. Great video update. Have a wonderful holiday too. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Oh JB I bet you were warm after all that work those beds look FAB. I split one of my rhubarbs just like you did but I dug it all up and spread it around and donated to others and it all took. I didn’t harvest from it for the first year just let it recover then it went bonkers the next year.
I had no idea that's what was hiding under a rhubarb!! You are a braver man than I! Allotment is looking great, it's so nice sorting beds out at this time of year, when you come back a week later they are still sorted 😅 Better than sorting in the middle of summer, when the weeds are reappearing before you have finished the other end of the bed😂
Hahahaha that is so true about the weed pressure!
Your hard work is paying off. I love those beds. It's been so wet & bluster here on the East Coast that I haven't done mine yet. Have bags of homemade compost to use & I'm itching to get outside. Fingers crossed for this week 🐞
Oh, no! You're hurting that poor rhubarb! Though not as much as the summer heat where I live would.
Thanks JB, for this great update, I hope that you have a brilliant holiday and I'll be watching you sow everything when you get back. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Hi, chilly but green at my garden in Norway too 🤪
Hi JB
The plot is looking fabulous and lets hoping all that compost, top soil and well rotted manure will improve the beds and you won't have your soil behaving like concrete in the dry summer months.
Have a great time on your trip to Japan 😊
Winter is definitely the right time to divide rhubarb. We've divided rhubarb with only 2-3 buds, and we used a similar technique to you, albeit we were growing ours in large pots outside and put the divisions into more pots outside - it worked out perfectly fine.
No need to chuck it in the greenhouse.
It's almost impossible to over fertilise rhubarb. Sounds like with the preparation you did of mixing manure with the bed soil, you should have a fab new rhubarb plant next year!
Great work JB, what a difference it makes, well worth the effort!
Oh yeah, don't worry about the rhubarb, it will be totally fine! They are super tough!
It’s looking great, you seem so much more positive about the allotment now. Not sure if you’ve ever covered this but have you ever considered wood chipping the pathways instead of grass?
Lovely top soil! Those beds look soooo good. ❤😊
The allotment looks marvellous! Sympathies on the dental work. Some dentist many years ago quoted me $12,000 Cdn for 6 crowns and a root canal, and I told them to stuff it. The teeth are still holding up, only a couple had to be pulled.
Hopefully JB you will reap the rewards with the extra effort you have put in!
Have a fab holiday!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great News your site and plot escaped the worst of the storm, beds look great but could you do a pros & cons of having them , just seems an expense that could be spent better elsewhere unless you have a specific need for raised beds or want low tunnels. ?have you started peppers yet. Atb 🙏
Your beds look great!! In North Carolina we can work our beds year-round (except for last week during the polar blast). Where do you buy the bed corners that you used???
JB after a childhood watching Tom & Jerry I fear for you leaving the rake on the path pointy side up!
Lol. 😂
I watched Home Alone. Leaving pointy side up and other tricks on allotments would be great for deterring trespassers. 😅
😂
Evening JB nice size rhubarb but what you need to remember is it's very very hungry especially having been moved to keep your eye on it for the next month also Tony O'Neill over it simplify gardening is a brilliant rhubarb grower might be worth giving him a watch as for the dentist I get a second opinion if I were you good luck anyway
Five grand! My car cost less than that…. Ah no! 😮
Top Good work jb the moostuin compost the beds thans te video Top week fried 🧤🦺🌤☕️👍🧹
