At 11:45, I was not clear about Saving Rolls (SR). I said that SRs are usually made "against" your Luck stat. To be clear, you add your Luck stat to your SR to try and make the SR Target Number.
Hahaha The solo game for Tunnels & Trolls is basically Commodore 64s Telengard video game. Thats not a bad thing - Telengard was WAY ahead of its time and I've used it as inspiration for my own home-brewed single player game.
there was a tunnels and trolls video game might be on the disk. there are probably pdfs of ttunnels and trolls on the disk to. i feel i bought on at some point.
Thanks for this, I am a green solo player looking for something that I feel I can get invested in (hold my interest, I mean). I like the appeal of older games I never got to play (I am born mid 80s). What would be a minimum to get started in the 5e era time period? I can always try that Elven Lords option as an alt, if you do recommend that for newbs. Thanks a lot
Elven Lords is a good start since you can see if T&T works for you before buying the core module. With that said, you would need to start with a little more powerful character than one you just rolled up. Not a big deal though.
yes no offense to the content creator, he obviously knows his stuff. But anyone who pretends to still know of or play this game deserves a fucken Oscar.
@Bren71319 Well pretend means to speak and act to make something appear as it is not. It could be malicious or fun. As in, I could pretend (as you do in table top games) that I am a knight. But in reality I'm not ACTUALLY a knight. As for this instance. Tunnels and Trolls FLOPPED because it wasn't a good game. If it were good then people would have bought it and played it on a mass scale... they didn't. The last publication it had was in 96 when it was placed low on a listicle article. There is the case of this casual game with a die hard (somehow) following not making any fucken sense. As far as the pretenders go. It is a huge trend to be nostalgic over things that some didn't experience. Influencers do it all the time. They claim they were brought up on things that pre or post dates them. So get ready for all of these gen z'ers pretending they knew about Tunnels and Trolls with this upcoming publication. Happy gaming friend!
@@leedolian4482 , I’ve been playing T&T since 1992, so... Not a newbie... I don’t know why you assumed that. T&T is a great system and my favorite rpg!
Second RPG after D&D MAY be questionable....MAR Barker self published Empire of the Petal Throne in 74, and in 75 TSR published it as a game setting, though it was a complete RPG of its own.
En Garde!, GDW's fantastic little RPG set in 17th Century France, came out the same year as Tunnels and Trolls (1975). I can't recall which came out first, but they were close. However, Empire of the Petal Throne actually was published in 1974, before Tunnels and Trolls (with 50 copies, at $25.00 a box it was quite expensive, the equivalent of $150.24 in today's money). So, T & T has a tentative claim on perhaps being the third published RPG. It is great fun, and was arguably perhaps the first "Rules Lite" (as they say these days) RPG. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/En_Garde! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_of_the_Petal_Throne ruclips.net/video/NpjlC4VsUQ4/видео.html
I've no idea what the original T& T was like in terms of rules, but the 1974 edition of D&D was more or less a broken mess of a game, even if it was innovative. So I wonder what the first actually "good" RPG was?
There are just over 30 solo adventures. In addition to Flying Buffalo’s website, they are also available in pdf on DriveThruRPG. You can also get the 5th edition rules there as well.
I think tunnels and trolls was before Dungeons and Dragons and I think that's maybe where Gygax got the idea... that's the old timey game table scuttlebutt from the comic shop anyway. Years ago years and years ago
It's interesting to see tunnels and trolls back. However, has it been infected with modern woke politics? Does it still say male and female only? Are there still racial traits and races?
I never liked it either. The game is undergoing a bit of a revival right now under the Monsters! Monsters! brand though. And while M!M! is just as quirky as T&T a new game based on the system just came out called LAir of the Leopard Empresses that drops the bad pun dad joke humor for a more straight sword & sorcery. It doesn't hurt that it's probably the best laid out, best written, explained and concise version of the game yet (in my opinion at least)

For us “Tunnels and Trolls” enthusiasts, this video is a breath of fresh air as there’s so little coverage of this beloved game on the Tubes of You...
I have the "Monsters, Monsters" supplement
Nevin I have to say your really knocking these videos out of the park. I'm seriously impressed.
Thank you, sir!
Tunnels and Trolls is a fun sytem, and is so great for solo adventures!
5th edition rocks, high school study hall was the spot, back in 1978.
Being a bonafide book-sniffer, I like the smell of the Deluxe T&T hardback book.
I love the smell of a new hardback in the morning. It smells like...victory.
Never heard of this, would have loved this as a kid. Alas.
Cool video!

Rebellion now owns the intellectual properties. Hope they start designing solo adventures.
Woah that short story book was edited in part by Michael A. Stackpole, he was one of the best Star Wars Expanded Universe authors!
Stackpole also wrote some Battletech books.
What a great collection. What a great game
Can never fathom the healing in the game mechanics (non magical. ) great upload.
On the cd are some combat examples, equipment lists and even; the old MS-DOS computer game “Crusaders of Khazan”...
At every convention I’ve been solo rpgs are the first ones to sell out
They seem to be very popular right now, so I wanted to give the original solo RPG some love.

I have one of those old magazines (late 80's) somewhere in a box. I bought many different rpg's in the 80's and 90's and bought the magazine to read
.
I just picked up some old Space Gamer magazines and plan to cover them at some point on my "Retro Review Series."
@@thefantasyskirmisher3894 I have some of those too.
Take that you fiend!
Thanks for the video.
Are the physical books out of print now?
Let us rejoice.

Dang, that rulebook is not cheap
The hardcopy is huge (can't recall how many 100s of pages, maybe 600?). The PDF is on sale now for $20. It's a great game.
The Deluxe edition goes for about 65 dollars. Not cheap, but it's built like a tank.

"Attributes". Only a yank could pronounce it incorrectly.
It's fine to pronounce it that way, just not in that context.
