    This was very easy to make and I'm only 14! You don't have to be super skilled to make this. I cut the recipe in half and used honey instead so I didn't have to empty the whole pantry to make it. Making honeycomb is a very good introduction to sugar.

    I am laughing so much! At the age of 71 years I have just found out that the honeycomb I used to adore as a kid, didn't come from bees! I always thought it did because of the name. How thick can you be? So, now I know better I am going to have to make some. Thank you for enlightening me.

    I just tried this one. I didn't have normal baking soda, so I used lemon-flavoured baking soda. The honeycomb tastes great, but with a touch of lemon. Since I use "lemon and honey" candy a lot for my throat (I work with my voice), for me it worked perfectly. However, next time I will give a try with the normal bicarb, I bet they will be even more delicious. My favourite use for them is to break them into splinters and use them as toppings for yoghourts or ice cream, or even as sugar to flavour herbal teas (honey and lemon give a wonderful taste). Off to the ice cream recipe! Yearning to try that one.

    Are you able to do this with baking powder instead of baking soda, because I live in the uk where baking soda is illegal

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  4 года назад +2

      I'm sorry but the baking soda can't be substituted with baking powder in this recipe. It's there to react with the sugars, forming the CO2 and it crisps. It is not illegal in the UK, as far as I know as it is a basic baking ingredient. It may be labeled at bicarbonate of soda over there. I hope this helps.

      Eirian That's hilarious, I'm delighted it turned out well. I popped my crunches in the freeze and grazed on them for a week. They were really crispy and the chocolate was hard, yummy!

    I wish I had known how simple this was to make. My grandfather asked me, several years ago, if I could make some for him...I had no idea. I found a candy company in the States that makes it (it was his favorite candy- but he just likes the honey comb, not with the chocolate), and had them send some to him. He has since passed away, so it is a very sweet memory I have of him, and how tickled he was to get some! I might just have to try this! Thanks for the post!

    There is a very popular old-school snack called dalgona in my country, that is made in a similar way - but with less baking soda! My mom's generation will probably have more memories of eating it than my peers do. We would buy one small disk after school, from these grannies selling them in front of our school building. Sometimes we lightly press down a shape cutter to leave a mark, and try to nibble on the dalgona to leave only the cutter's shape left :) I often made this at home, too. But instead of a saucepan, I used a ladle - just the way the grannies did - and covered it with a layer of tin foil to prevent the mixture from sticking to the bottom and leaving a burnt mess.
