Matt Osman is such an underrated member, his note choice is always flawless and he's always writing melodic lines, even on the rockier stuff he never just sticks to the route notes but tries to be as melodic as possible, I've lost count of the amount of times I've (quite rightly) read Bernard Butler get a huge amount of praise but I've never once ever read Matt Osman get any credit, and it's a total travesty
Blur is pretty great, too. They had a few really obnoxious hits during the period (Girls and Boys, Parklife, Country House, Stereotypes), but if you can get past that, there's also a ton of great ballads that rival Suede's output (This Is A Low, The Universal, Battery In Your Leg to name my favorites). I also love the entire 13 album. I used to love Pulp, but these days I'd rank them a distant 3rd. Oasis do absolutely nothing for me. Just my 2 cents ofc.
Suede was a pretty unique band coming out from the Britpop era while they have sth of Radiohead and sth of Oasis or you can say they are nothing like any of those major band in Britpop era, however they are prob the most creative one in terms of pop music, Radiohead are too far fetched to consider as pop after Kid A . Osman's bass was the highlight of the whole song. Brilliant.
they were never 'britpop'..they hated the association..words of brett-''oasis are good music engineers..suede is art..' and yes they are.art.sounds pretentious but its true
He certainly did. To find a player who could firstly nail every Butler note and nuance is incredible in itself but to then go on to be a creator in his own right is. Astonishing.
I´m finally managing to play this on my old acoustic guitar after years dreaming about it, it just feels even better than I could ever imagine it to be..
I read somewhere in one of the magazine article about this song 'The wild ones' Brett writes this beautiful song for ex-girlfren name Anick. Did i get my facts correct. Its really a very beautiful song and emotional lyrics.
The media had started to turn on Suede by then - typical British music press, build them up then knock them down. Butler had just left too and while this album was great, the mainstream deserted them until Coming Up
@@glenbaker8412I think 94 was a funny year for music grunge officially died with Kurt Cobain but instead of embracing already established British guitar bands people put Oasis on a pedestal and their easily accessible terrace chants songs while absolute classics like Dog Man Star and The Holy Bible sold poorly……doesn’t pay to be to clever sometimes.
ohdear671 Sounds like his voice is tired here. First time Ive ever heard his voice crack live, sounds a bit sniffly at times, maybe had a cold! Lovely performance from the rest the band though
After watching this decided to buy a Takamine acoustic with the built in electric pickups. Still have it now and still love the sound especially through a PA system
+West Surrey Slings No, you can see his face clearly. It's totally Richard. Bernard left in 94, when they were still finishing up Dog Man Star, and by the time they got around to playing the shows and doing the promotion/touring, they were already working with Oakes.
Dog Man Star is one of the greatest albums of the nineties and people need to know this.
Agreed 🙌
Mixed and mastered awfully. Awesome album, served very badly.. no wonder Bernard had a strop and buggered off.
not ... her best album, only the guitarist lacks strength ... where are you Bernard??
*of all time
30 years later and I still have it on regular rotation.
A very talented band - excellent live too as demonstrated here. Great timeless tunes that will still be played in the years ahead
Brett Anderson = Orpheus
I miss Brit pop

Vrdd😆😆😆
He's very good and very melodic. However, his lines are rarely unforgettable, like say Joy Division bass lines.
He's more of an arranger.
Simon too he’s not a very showy drummer but without him the band would sound nowhere as good !
You are right, he is underrated. His long friendship with Anderson is also a very important part of what makes Suede.
@@sinnerboy6009 Too many drum fills here.
There was Britpop...
...and there was Suede.
A class apart.
A class above.
x10!
Concordo totalmente
Suede is in a class of its own. Pure brilliance, artistic passion, musical genius.
Beautiful bass playing
And in December 2023 I still listen to the song. Everlasting love.
I'm in love.with Suede. Just since last week.
Patricia García Me from 1.5 month ago
Great choice!
ita going to be a long week :)
@@ericparadis7882 lol indeed
Brett s voices is so unique
Thank the Lord.
Andy Rourke would be proud of that bassline. Johnny Marr of that guitar. Mike Joyce of that drumming. Morrissey of that singing. Suede forever.
Fuck the Smiths.
Yeah,Matt Osmon doesn't really get much credit for his work in the band, but he really nails those bass lines, and just underpins this song nicely
@@therespectedlex9794 fuck morissey long live the smiths
@Yes No without the smiths there would be no britpop
I’d say he owes more to Bowie than Morrissey
Love this performance, especially Osman's lovely counter-melodies. You can really hear the slinkiness of the bass.
The most beautiful song of Suede... ❤❤❤
Best band coming out of the Britpop Era. Let's be real.

A measured response, with qualifications that these are your opinions. RUclips needs more people like you.
Fuck off.
so fucking true
and Longpigs. Love Suede so much.

Brett is an angel
This was from a time i felt anything was possible.. now i see the fire again in my kids
Youngsters need to know suede like they do oasis
One of my favourite songs of all time!
i love the look of brett
Richard Oakes saved Suede.
Matthew Selinger Well said
He certainly did. To find a player who could firstly nail every Butler note and nuance is incredible in itself but to then go on to be a creator in his own right is. Astonishing.
@@MultiStrickland Exactly...+ only 17 when joined
Bernard is the sound of suede though
@Multi Strickland He didn't nail every note and nuance, though. As evidence by this pretty bland performance of The Wild Ones.
I´m finally managing to play this on my old acoustic guitar after years dreaming about it, it just feels even better than I could ever imagine it to be..
The strumming pattern is a bit difficult to get right I find..
They sing about real life and that's the difference. Wonder what Brett will sing about in twenty years time.
Suede Forever. Greetings from Poland.
Only just realised how great the drums are on this song👍🏼
Still adore this, who listen to it in augustus 2019
Me too
2020 April.
It’s always in my phone, July 2020.
Me I remember when I heard it first time when I was 15 long time ago ))) too much wonderful music
love this band from 97 and now 2018 thnks SUEDE from indonesia
Best british band since the nineties, Brett best voice and best performer...
Richard did ok but this is not anywhere as good as the album version. Impossible to replace Bernard.
2019? Forever suede
I read somewhere in one of the magazine article about this song 'The wild ones' Brett writes this beautiful song for ex-girlfren name Anick. Did i get my facts correct. Its really a very beautiful song and emotional lyrics.
A personal anthem from the 90’s that sustained the ragged tapestry of my mind...
This willl always kill me…. Dog Man Star.
Forever.
What a wonderful performance of such a beautiful song ❤️
This should of been massive, just managed top 20.
+Robcatist ahead of its time
There is a good reason why !

I'm so glad my car has a tape deck because I managed to score this single on cassette and that's how I got into Suede
Umas das melhores bandas de Britpop que existem...
they were the smiths of the 90s
Put this song out today, top of the charts!!!
the greatest band on earth
Brett is lazy on the "oooohhhh, if you'd stay" in my opinion
ohdear671 Sounds like his voice is tired here. First time Ive ever heard his voice crack live, sounds a bit sniffly at times, maybe had a cold! Lovely performance from the rest the band though
Still love this song, the voice and expanse. So immersive 💛 thanks for uploading
I’m not crying. You’re crying
I love this song so much!! love from South Korea
August 26, 2019
still pretty dope to my ears!!!
Absolutely love this. Though no song should have the word 'bungalow' in it..
Best band ever
My favorite part of the song is the strings which gives it much life
26 years ago.. gulp.. still moves me
After watching this decided to buy a Takamine acoustic with the built in electric pickups. Still have it now and still love the sound especially through a PA system
Remember watching this on tv and recording suede are simply beautiful catch them live they are breathtaking
So many memories of this song.
As usual, Brett's hair steals the show
Superb
Great Bassline
The pacing and anticipation of that track makes my very being come alive.
One of favourite ever song
Mi canción!
So love band from japan.
Who is the prdgl sox south of what
Yeah such a awesome song, Suede are awesome full stop.
Wow 1994... The band N the singer bring it.....
2020.12.30 still love Suede
I love this song, but this performance feels so empty with just the acoustic guitar. I remember thinking the same thing when I watched it in 1994!
Favourite Suede song, bittersweet though, broken heart.
Close to living dead
Damn good song
Just discovered this song from the soundtrack for the movie One Day
Beautiful thank you .
Beautiful thank you .
thanks for posting. I think it really lacks the lead guitar on this recording, bass and acoustic just ain't enough
amazing
That's what a voice sounds like with no gimmicks. REAL
Simon the 'Flam' master 👍
Seeing them next month cant wait
mi Professor
Excellent

By this look you can say that Brett wanted to BE Justine...
is that butler on guitar ?

+erin79 must be Butler. Oakes came later

No, he is Richard Oakes..
no, is Oakes
Awful
Suede without Bernard Butler? Not 4 me . Butler is class ,listen to "Hendra" 2014 Album Ben Watt & B Butler ,class .
