- Take a boat tour around Houseboat Bay, Great Slave Lake, Yellowknife NWT. We saw a special plane, a N3N US Navy open cockpit floatplane which was used from 1937 to 1944. It has one centre float to balance on, with two outrigger floats to keep it upright!.
Brings me back to the old days, haven’t seen YK like that in years 🤟thanks
Happiness is living in Yellowknife! I thought I was the only one who motored under the bridge. Guess not! Love Joe's old planes. Cool to see Max Ward's Turbo Otter again this year, along with the one Tindi is leasing. Houseboating here would be awesome, but a bit of work sometimes. Can't talk the wife into it. Take care.
So true Bushcraft. I have been out to the East Arm may times in Tindi's ATY. I just love that place!
I loved this show….I will they would have continued it…❤
When I was a kid I specifically remember riding on my uncle's boat and I always rode up in the very front holding onto the metal bars ... As the MASS !!!!
you guys should watch icelake rebels . it is a show all about this houseboat community. as long as they dont anchor on shore, they dont pay taxes. which is why most choose this life style. and it also shows how they get through winter
Excellent recommendation! They rock!
I hope to see our friends back on TV
This is AMAZING !!!!! 🙏🌝😌
Where does their liquid waste go?
WHAT!!!? THATS IT. I COULD HAVE WATCHED THIS FOR A LONG TIME MAN. GREAT VIDEO. THANX FROM FENELON FALLS KAWARTHAS. WE GOTS NOTHIN ON YOU GUYS UP THERE ON G.S.L. MAN.
G.S.L. !!! WOW... I CAN JUST IMAGINE WHAT IT'S LIKE...
Thank goodness I love the water !!!
Like the Boblo boat ... Good memories
I miss Boblo use to go every year sometimes twice a year
Beautiful onshore line
Been here a few times. I’d like to live there but to cold, summers are to short for a garden even.
Dreadful mosquitoes during those summer weeks too!
is ice an issue in the winter? how do you prevent hull damage and issues from the ice?
I'm wondering the same thing
A lot of them use those massive metal propane canisters as floats. They don't get busted or crushed by the ice.
@@mr_seth fuck cold weather man. Why would you even go there in cold weathers. Anywhere in the world where its cold is soo bad.
Are houseboats legal in Yellowknife? Does the city and Provincial official give you a hard time about building codes and permits?
Sorry I know your comment was a whole year ago, but I know the answer to your question haha. The legality of houseboats is contested and uncertain. I read an article saying they don't pay municipal taxes and there are no building regulations. The city has tried, unsuccessfully, to assert jurisdiction over the boats, but the territory didn't allow it. But in other activities on the water, like tourist groups, the territory has decided they can actually assert some authority on the lake. So no one really knows what the rules are or should be, and all interested parties are constantly negotiating the situation and trying to figure it out. It's like who's line is it anyways. Everything's made up and the points don't matter 😂
@@suchnothing thanks, I have Canadian relatives in Toroto, and the kids are basically unable to ever get on the property ladder due to the cost of a house in Etobicoke going up to nearly $1 M CAN. Only way to get a house is to inherit it.
@@myopicchiwawa yeah I live in Toronto now, it's absolutely insane. I'll probably never be able to buy, and even if you can, trying to get a hold of a decent property is super stressful. My friends just bought their first house here (lawyer and computer engineer couple lol). They offered 1.3 mil on their first choice of house (a small 2 or 3 bedroom family home) and got outbid.
Building a floating house out on Lake Ontario would be interesting 🤔 I was told when I visited Yellowknife that the rising cost of property in the city was a huge factor in starting the houseboat community in the first place. But I think the federal government (who is responsible for waterways in Canada, which is why the City of Yellowknife has no jurisdiction) regulates major commercial waterways like the great lakes a lot more heavily than less busy bodies of water like Greater Slave Lake in Yellowknife. Lake Ontario presents other problems as well, like not being safe to drink or cook with, and having really high traffic of large and powerful water vessels you have to look out for. I bet there are expensive docking fees if you want to get into town. I think the waters get more treacherous during bad weather too.
@@suchnothing I totally agree with you. Basically ordinary Canadians are shut out and international speculators are grabbing everything.
The Government should build an artificial island like in Dubai then put tall buildings there but the caveat is at least 50% of the units are sold to Canadians of ordinary income, not just to foreign millionaires.
Watch this video: amazing how they built that.

Wow! So many rich peoples are around the world! But sorry to say I don't have any house!!! All beautiful beautiful boathouse!!!!!!!!! how they earn money?

Love the soundtrak
Awesome!
Houseboats stay in water frozen in on spot.
Any info on that green houseboat @ 3:11?????
I'll pass on the slave lake tour, I don't think I'll be revisiting that history.
It’s from the slavey tribe it’s a similar sounding and spelled word with nothing related to slaves ever
It's named after a first nations tribe
What a stupid comment from EyesWideShut
Is there a way to disappear at Slave Lake? In fact where is Slave Lake if I may ask?
Daphane Mcconnell ask the slaves, I'm sure some disappeared
Northwest Territories, Canada. People do that.
Why up north its like 50 below in the winter you could dissapear up there no problem surviving is a different story
@@bensmith4563 😂😂😂
@@bensmith4563 fucking cold asf. I hate fucking cold weather man
Nice maybe I'll move there from edm.
2 months isn't long enough !!!
What are summer (July) temperatures like?
20 degrees. With Midnight Sun!
Possible to make the intro any longer?
Why do people bother having pleasure boats if it is frozen 9 months of the year?
Where do the houseboats go in winter?
They freeze into the ice.
No, they fly South !
Edward Finn you meant float south... hehehe
Nice
No other place was comforting or safe feeling ... I had to ride as the MASS ... !!!
House boat ... Thanks
где находятся эти удивительные дома?
Northern Canada
SAIL ... AWAY ....DONT LEAVE WITHOUT ME
Thought I was gonna see the inside of one of those. 😣
Looks great but I imagine a good part of the year that lake must be frozen
Yes it is frozen for part of the year but it makes accessibility to Float Homes easier. Owners can walk or drive across the ice to their homes.
Reggae music on the Great Slave lake. Hmmmmm....
Lmao, just doesn’t fit does it. Agreed.
What are they using for floats ?
coydog52 κάποιες τιμές από όλα αυτά τα ειπεροχα.
coydog52 try pontoons, it'll take the guess work out of it for you. Big floaties and decking, insert tiny home . voila
All sorts of setups. Pontoons, old barges, tugs, barrels, etc. They are a creative and resourceful lot!
@@bushcraftnorthof6012 my kinda peeps!
How do they dispose of their sewage & garbage
Composting toilets and grey water systems. Other garbage is brought to shore and taken to the dump aka recycling centre.
what about property tax?
they don't pay any property tax.
@ love that!
Great. Slave. Lake......
Chucky Hagelo Um, I'm a little curious about your post... What does it mean?
henimsay he's whining about the name. Most yuppies do the first time they hear it. Esp non canucks
Chucky Hagelo The name 'Great Slave' came from the Slavey Tribe of the Dene aboriginals. the Slavey are one of the northern Canadian Athapaskan tribes on the great slave lakes southern shores, It has nothing to do with literal slaves
@@daveunderwood6498 its funny to see someone so small minded they get triggered by someone else's political philosophy, you're life is sad, lol
Alaska, YOU FOLKS ARE NUTS
Code enforcement worst nightmare: a house on a float...which is a boat not a house...
Too bad it is frozen solid 9 months out of the year
And filled with bugs the other 3
Waw Nice Nice
Cabin cruiser
I need to run away from home and disappear from the earth...
Daphane Mcconnell
awww, may I ask please why do you say that?
you're confused and young. life is too hard for that nonsense
4:25
ganja smoking music
And all shit from boat house goes to....
In the past the city collected deposits "honey pots" - now most have composting, no effluent toilets.
