This was a caution free race. It was the last race to have that. Probably never going to happen again with "competition cautions" and "phantom cautions" we have today.
Dale went 38 laps on one load of fuel. Damn, conserving fuel to win a race is one thing, but conserving fuel and winning a race at TALLADEGA is fuckin' amazing.
There was a clip I had seen years ago with Stewart. He was yelling at his crew chief saying there is noway we cant do anything with the 8. If anybody knows where I can find it please let me know.
By Talladega standards, this was a bit of a yawner. Especially when it came to the fall race. 2001 had that wild finish, 2003 had Junior nearly coming back from near the back + the Sadler flip. 2004 had Jarrett nearly pulling the upset over Junior. 2005 and 2006 saw Jarrett/Vickers pull off shocking wins on the last lap.
Only thing I have to say about 2003 is that Jr. won the spring race from the back, not the fall race. Michael Waltrip won the fall race. Also, don't forget that in the fall of 2007, Jeff Gordon won the first COT race at Talladega on a last lap pass.
Did I mention a B.S. caution with ten laps to go? All I meant was that I wish the finish involved more cars in a pack. Personaly I like it when a restrictor plate race ends without a caution, but like I said, I would've prefered it if the race wasn't such a fuel mileage race. Just my preference, don't hate. I can't stand argueing over trivial crap on You Tube, it's pointless.
Goody for Baby Dale. You know there's a lot of drivers who have all of that and more? What makes him so special? Oh, that nine letter word in his name that comes after Dale and before JUNIOR. That's what.
This Happens When I Was 9 Years Old In The 4th Grade When Dale Earnhardt Jr Wanted To Play With That Fake Money From That Armour Truck When He A Winner.
Yeah? Alright, that's true. But you have to have a hell of a lot more car control and talent to win races on road courses and other tracks, which almost never happens when you're Junior.
I think Allison's crash was in '88. But yes, the plates started being used after that. Even w/ the plates and the roof flaps, though, cars can still get airborne.
hey i dont have to. this isn't about me. i'm just stating the obvious that junior almost never wins on any other tracks. you know, the ones that actually require a bit of driving skill above the rest?
no doubt this will be the last ever caution-free race in NASCAR. Today, NASCAR would not let that happen because they throw those "debris" cautions to keep it close
no you actually have to have a lot of talent because controlling a car going at 190mph the whole time is not easy and at Daytona is harder because that track is bumpy and at Talladega the track is so wide so you have to know how to block

I gotta buy NASCAR 2002. These graphics are amazing.
I miss BP's voice he was a great guy
This race was caution free. 188 laps under green.
ya it was
This race went caution free

*looks at the stands today*
Also, this was the last completely caution free race in NASCAR. That counts stages, too
the race is alright.
Yep. How we missed those days...

Nice vid a tipical awesome Talladega finish
I love this sport tuaght me about life
these things sounded ELECTRIFYING
boy when one hendrick car blows, they all go.
Yep 1997 Winston 500 which was run 2 weeks later due to rain.
this is when nbc was the best.
no front 2 were nd the 4th place guy kurt busch crossd the line behind jr nd stewart but he was a lap down

This was the race when rookie Jimmie Johnson was leading points standings and started first.
oh yeah
Dang the sound on this video's great. Just not the picture on this video, lol.
This year, the restrictor plate tracks are much more exciting.
This Happens When I Was 9 Years Old In The 4th Grade When Dale Earnhardt Jr Wanted To Play With That Fake Money From That Armour Truck When He A Winner.
@MrPatd0308 read the description this was the most recent caution free race.
@MrPatd0308 Dude it did...
This was the fourth straight year where an Earnhardt won the fall Talladega race.
@sandman47546 also there was one back in the day that Mark Martin won that was caution free.. like the 80's or something
Yeah? Alright, that's true. But you have to have a hell of a lot more car control and talent to win races on road courses and other tracks, which almost never happens when you're Junior.
You put the victory lane speech on here
lol true
Happen today
Obviosuly becasue half the field crashed on the backside on the last lap with a car upside-down, much better.
Tony Eury Sr is Brad Keselowski's crew chief in the nationwide series.
@sandman47546 i think they started using them after '87... after allison's crash into the fence
I think Allison's crash was in '88. But yes, the plates started being used after that. Even w/ the plates and the roof flaps, though, cars can still get airborne.
Also wasnt one in 97' where Martin won.....wasnt that caution free?
It was always Jr and Stewart back then
why are you guys saying it wasn't caution-free??? IT WAS!
hey i dont have to. this isn't about me. i'm just stating the obvious that junior almost never wins on any other tracks. you know, the ones that actually require a bit of driving skill above the rest?
what a shame bad crew choices on that 88 team they need a lotta work for 2010 or else forget it

Ahh, back when NASCAR on NBC was good.
How come he used to have Tony Eury now he has Tony Eury Jr what happened to him?
@MrPatd0308 think before you comment
Wow I looked at the upper running order.....was this the race where all the Hendrick engines blew within the first 300 miles?
Rofl the flag man drops the flag woops let me get the yellow flag he'd probably do that XD
@gordon24champ every nascar fan does
dude try like more than 10
o this was the race when they all 4 blew there motors?
i hated nbc broadcast
i guess there all plate victories too lol
go to racing-reference.info and click on sprint cup series results, go to the 2002 page and find talladega....it says no cautions
At least no one has made a "recorded with a potato" joke yet, and this doesn't count by the way.
no jimmies blew with like 15 to go
How in the hell does a 'dega race go caution free!?!?
So, I see.
*brb making a recorded with a potato joke*
I was happy Junior won, but I was dissapointed in this finish. Boring!
Give me Petty, Allison, Pearson with a dash of Earnhart any day over this type of racing!!
i doubt it was caution free cause there wouldn't be many cars out
Between Talladega and Daytona... they're the only tracks this nontalent can win on.
very boring finish
Woah, 6 non-plate track victories? He's fucking amazing! Everyone bow to the most overrated athlete ever!
