Thanks Charles, for including me! It was an honor to be included with these great guitarists! I had a blast “sparring” with you & hope we can do it again! 🤥
He was a pretty good musician. I feel like he probably just spreads himself really thin doing a lot of stuff, so his guitar muscle memory isnt as well developed as his musical skill
It's interesting how differently they deal with key changes. The 'song' structure is: 1. E minor/E phrygian bass part (silence for guitar solo) 2. F# minor blues pentatonic part (silence for guitar solo) 3. A-flat diminished seventh arpeggio, B-flat diminished seventh arpeggio, B major chord (with short silences in between) and E minor blues pentatonic ending lick. There's a challenge for guitar players to connect parts 1, 2 and 3. To create cohesive piece guitar part gotta somehow arrive from E minor key to F# minor. And then from F# minor to A-flat diminished seventh chord. So I got curious to see how every musician approached those key changes. For example, first dude (Ljfulks) just kinda reacts to bass guitar without thinking of key changes. Bass plays in Em, then guitar responds with E minor pentatonic lick which ends on root note (E) on strong beat without regard to F# minor bass part which begins in this moment. Same thing with his second solo: pure F# minor pentatonic ending on F# note. He's aware what goes before his solo but ignores what goes after. Gabriel Borza: kinda connects parts 1 and 2 by ending first solo with bend going from E to F#. Then he goes wild playing A7 arpeggios and then going to B minor pentatonic lick ending on B, which connects to A-flat diminished seventh smoothly. Nice. Jungle man connects 1 and 2 by plaing mainly E minor stuff but ending it with bold F# note, which sounds weird in E minor context but then bass starts playing in F# minor key and it all starts making new sense. Then he precedes A-flat diminished seventh just by playing atonal chromatic craziness. Well, why not, that works too. Davidmargalitad responds to Em part by D minor sounding lick ending it with A note. Weird, but at least that A makes sense in F# minor. Then he responds to F# minor part with... another D minor lick. Okay, that's definitely weird ) I kinda understand where first Dm lick came from: he took E, D and F from beginning of bass part and proceeded from that. But the second solo seems to be in Dm just because first one was in Dm (and because his guitar is tuned D standard). Sotomusic responds to Em part by starting with Em pentatonic, then outlining A major arpeggio (which is connected to F# minor) but then he ends with C-E-G-A-B phrase which theoretically is wrong way to precede F# minor pentatonic, but it works somehow. Then he plays strictly F# pentatonic but ends it with B note which connects to A-flat diminished seventh chord. Mathiaslunde starts with Em pentatonic but right before first key change he goes to F# minor pentatonic and ends phrase with F# note. Then he precedes A-flat diminished seventh arpeggio by ending second solo on A-flat. Smooth. Adamwardguitar does a lot of things in first solo (E phrygian dominant, Emajadd9 arpeggio, E mixolydian stuff) and ends it with G to Aflat bend. Whaat? Second solo is more traditional: he starts with F# minor pentatonic and then precedes bass A-flat diminished seventh arpeggio with his A-flat diminished seventh arpeggio.

For musicians it’s easy to understand why the last guitarist delivered the best response, I was so happy to finally see someone play the parts stating the musical questions rather than just reacting to the responses from Charles
What you are doing is amazing. Sharing your platform for other musicians? Giving them a place to shine in such a light hearted manner. I truly respect it and you. Thank you for being an awesome human and making the music community a better place.
04:20 - Tapping with the pick was the first way I learned to tap. So I only need to spend 10-15 years tapping to get as good as you? You're an inspiration
Charles, a tip for your videos. There is clipping noise when you switch audio clips. Given that audio is a feature of your videos may I suggest a method of removing this distortion? If you can rapidly (but not instantly) put a volume envelope on each audio track just before it ends it will "fade out" to zero. The clipping noise occurs even when you think the audio is silent but is not at zero at the end of a track (sometimes there is a DC bias to different audio clips - so if they all fade in from zero and fade out to zero then there's no step between). Effectively a clip from some audio to no audio is a square wave - and a square wave has many harmonics - which is why it is perceived so noisy.
It’s interesting that all of them chose to use distortion, and maybe that was what you were looking for. However, a jazz guitarist with a clean sound could have easily fit into the soundscape as well and would have been an interesting contrast.
A Fender guitar recently came into my possession and I began researching a little to start learning it, but ever since I have discovered this channel, I'm hooked on the bass and now plan to get one. Awesome channel!

Second part of the bass solo was amazing. Sotomusic (70) was the best player imo
That “thumb tapping” was actually pick tapping
Oh wow i could watch these all day... Amazing stuff!!
23 dollar guy had such a weird picking technique! Kinda like EVHs trem picking
You have never ceased to amaze me completely time well spent watching a great value for my time Charles. Thanks again
🎸
There is a snap in the end on evers 10 sec, maby can u lisen to it and fix it?
Ok you singing lines is so wholesome. Love it.
imo Jungle man was the best but everyone do something intresting
You're a stud Charles. Always killing it.
A lot of guitarists sound like they were just playing riffs and not battling.
Sotomusic was the best.
You should really check his channel...
totally agree, other guys just play common riffs... Sotomusic was way better and original
@@ThePsyska Im lucky enough to play in some of his projects and to be my house mate... what a teacher to have =)
So Damn Sweet ! I think the pro level started for me with the seven bucks guy ! Amazing video as always ! I can’t wait to see the next one !!!
Why don't you put out a challenge against Steve Vai?
Damn. That'd be something.
Joe Satriani and Tosin Abasi might work too, and I don't mention those 2 by coincidence. They actually like posts by Charles on Instagram, lol (as does Jack Black, and no, I'm not kidding, Jack likes almost every post).
Great Battle Charles, Soto and Adam were the best of the bunch...loved that Bass though. 🤘🏼😈🤘🏼
I found a harmony on bass everytime i hear a sonh
I have the soundcore liberty 2 pros and it's pretty much the only brand so far I've seen on youtube that advertises something they can deliver on.
