Follow me underwater until the searchlights leave the shore.
Follow me underwater until we find what we're looking for.
Plastic oceans, plastic farms
Cover your footprints like a bandaid on a broken arm.
They found the pipeline through the soul in the soil.
I thought this place never changed
But now the reefs are bleeding swells of oil
And the forests are up in flames.
You fell asleep. You fell asleep while your bed burned.
Give me a reason.
Tell me why we lost our reason.
Tell me the truth, not an excuse.
'Cause we have everything to lose.
Plastic oceans, plastic farms
Cover your footprints like a bandaid on a broken arm.
There's a cancer in our lifeblood.
So silently it grew.
The streams of least resistance
Poison me and poison you.
There's a virus in the air
That drags the wind out from my chest.
I don't see a way out.
All I see is a sphere of unrest.
Show me a way out.
Follow me underwater until the searchlights leave the shore.
Follow me underwater until we find what we're looking for.
Plastic oceans, plastic farms
Cover your footprints like a bandaid on a broken arm.
You fell asleep. You fell asleep while your bed burned.
"We don’t inherit the earth from our parents, we borrow it from our children. Environmental preservation has always been something that’s important to me, but it only hit home in recent years from my travels just how dire of a state the world is in and how little our politicians are doing to stem the problem. I’ve been criticised for the lyrics to this song being on the simple side for Northlane, but that was intentional. It’s lyrically simple because I wanted it to be easy to understand because to me there aren’t many messages of higher importance than this one.
It really sunk in when I went on a trip to New Zealand last year with my partner. We travelled around the south island and visited a place called Aoraki and did a hike to the Fox Glacier. I’d seen pictures of this glacier before, I wasn’t prepared to see a lake with a few icebergs floating around in it. The Glaciers of New Zealand are deteriorating so fast due to global warming that the maps in these parks have to be constantly updated. How insane is that? when a feature that’s been around for thousands and thousands of years all but disappears in only a few. When you compare what it looks like now to only 25 years ago it’s hard to recognise the same landmarks. And this is only a small piece of what’s going on, I could write for days about it and still not cover all that I’ve seen with my own eyes.
As an Australian it saddens me that those in power have done so little for preservation when we pride ourselves on being so connected to the Earth. Our government’s approach to the problem is laughable. Even some key politicians once active in preservation no longer make an issue of it. This is just the tip of the iceberg of a global problem. If the earth dies, we die with it, along with the half of the world’s species that we haven’t killed off yet. We can’t afford to to be taking half-measures for our contribution to environmental preservation when our entire existence rests upon it’s wellbeing. And that’s why I felt obliged to write this song."

Celestial environmental progressive metalcore
We need a Deftones/ Architects/ Northlane world tour, that would be so frigging sick.
AlarmCopter fuck oath, this person knows their shit
Well said👍
Oh hello there.
Add Pink Floyd, Tool, Cave In and Misery Signals and you'll get a dream tour.
AlarmCopter When that day come, i could rest in peace.
This song gets more relevant as time passes by.
“And the forests are up in flames”
“There’s a virus in the air”
Holy shit.
@@disownership brah
nic pettersen is an incredible fucking drummer. never played drums, but his style and the creative shit he does is just completely different than every other band and really makes me appreciate northlane shit. Adrian's vocals/lyrics were too. two characteristics this band used to have that really set them apart from everyone else.
If you like ANY of those drummers, check out Matt McGuire. He has all kinds of covers, from all kinds of genres. He's covered Linkin Park, Of Mice & Men, Dubstep, The Amity Affliction, The Chainsmokers, 21 Pilots, and plenty of other artists.
He has a cover for ALMOST any genre. A lot of people are in love with his style.
Came here to post the same 😄 This whole record is so underrated compared to Alien and Obsidian 👌 and still holds its own regarding uniqueness
First song I've heard from them, and I'm really impressed. Gonna start listening to them a lot now.
Same, love being subbed to riserecords
welcome to the family haha, this band is fucking amazing
charlie grager this is their first record with Marcus (new singer) but their old stuff is still gold. just letting you know there was a switch
Good man,
Jesus. If you think this is good just wait until you hear their previous records. Prepare to by mind fucked.
love Marcus's voice in the beginning of the song.
this song makes me want architects and northlane to tour together due to the whole environmental stand point, ya feel?
sxppuku Finally. Someone else feels that way too!
I'm just gonna replay this until I hate it.
MxHC Music Promotions you hate it yet?
Good luck mate
I've been doing that since the song came out, I still can't hate it
Yeah, how is that going for you?
Yeah, still pretty good man
Yes Adrian is gone
Yes Quantum flux, we all miss that song.
Yes Northlane changed so much with Marcus
But I like the change and when the bandmembers searched for a new vocalist, they were searching for someone different than Adrian.
And to be honest Marcus is the best vocalist of all the Auditions.
Give them a try or just leave and never come again with your hate
Twilight_Force Addicted I love marcus to death, but there we're a few auditions that were better IMO.
Twilight_Force Addicted No, Northlane were searching for a Adrian's range vocalist, not a different one. Marcus was maybe the best who could replace Adrian.
Twilight_Force Addicted They still play Quantum flux live tho
Martin Giguère yes!! and marcus is pretty good with quantum flux as well :)
Christophe Nicol you're wrongly informed mate ;)
plastic....... oceans..............
plastic FARTS
AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
you got it 👌 you have an "oneyg" sense of humour
Laced With Poison le hombre
JZA VI
Cover your footprints like a potato
JZA VI i cant fucking get this out of my head now. Everytime i listen to this song it's gonna be that fuck
I cried when I heard this. I got the same feeling from this song that I got from listening to Quantum Flux for the first time. You got this Northlane.
CCosby1 The breakdown is almost an exact copy-cat of it haha
wow so cool :3
"There's a virus in the air, that drags the wind out from my chest"
Coming back to this song after a few years and this text couldn't be more accurate right now.
Hella that's crazy it must not be coincidence
@@renesanchez7798 There were a few years (2014-2017) that several metal bands, especially Christian ones, had Plague Doctor masks on album artwork.
IE- Red "of Beauty and Rage" 2015, Asking Alexandria "The Black" 2016. and others.
We are close to the end of times, the Virus will not be the cause, but instead the catalyst for the real culprit, the NWO.
Do not believe the media, actors/stars or your politicians for one second, they are all puppets working for the Beast.
Find Jesus, keep your family close and hang on tight, this is going to be a bumpy ride.
@@wyvern4588 im gonna have to check out those albums
And they were all wearing mask before COVID
@@wyvern4588 man wtf are you on? The only thing that is going to kill us is us, the song is about pollution in case you didn't notice. And by the way not only Christian bands wear saying we're fucked but also bands like Architects (huge influence on Northlane) and basically all the scientists that are keeping tabs on the situation that are bringing proof to their claims. Praying to Jesus or anything for that matter won't change a thing, but not so much waste and industry will.
Have a nice day.
Northlane meets the lyrical influence of in hearts wake.
Huge reason why I love their new songs is the Deftones style they are going on this album. I freaking love Deftones so this is great for me.
how is it a deftones style? I love deftones and Northlane but I'm just wondering. Thanks
Shadow Moses77 Vocally they may resemble the Deftones more now than before, but rhythmically they sound more like Tool than anyone I've heard in years. I mean that in good way.
joshua fletcher Sounds nothing like tool either
Shadow Moses77 how does this sound like deftones?
Travis Tourere I think the main parallel is the clean vocals which do seem to have a tone reminiscent of Chino, especially the softer parts, the chord work on the guitars also does give a similar feel although i'd say that Northlane have always had more interesting chord choices than most current bands anyway.
That said I don't think that the heavier riffs really carry much of a Deftones feel, and the drumming certainly doesn't.
All in all, definitely some influence in there, but saying that I don't think there are many modern heavy bands that don't draw some small influence from Deftones.
I saw Northlane live a few months ago but was never really a huge fan of them. This song fits my tastes a lot better than their older stuff though! I love how well done the lyric video is. A lot of the lyric videos nowadays had become redundant and unoriginal. This is setting the bar a little higher. Great message.
Ayyy Hansol likes Intervals and Northlane too?
+Hansol This seems to have been made by Red Boss Productions. You should check out the one they made for "Til We Drop - Clouds", it's just so much better Oo
lol funny reading this comment 2 years later cause after I got into Northlane, eventually their older stuff stuck with me longer. Love all their albums tho but for me it's now Discoveries > Singularity > Node.
im so glad you got into discoveries, this album changed my life. love you hansol
Hansol hey ur the guy that Rele likes erra! I just saw u comment on like five of their vids haha
This album is perfection real meaning and saying things that actually matter.
well, set the music itself aside and
damn the VFX guy just outdid himself again
Northlane is more about the message they are getting across which many of you seem to miss.
Ritchie Drama Yeah dude, its actually really striking once you read the lyrics. Very powerful imo! Many people actually fail to realize what the song means lol
Damian Karan Pretty much every song Northlane has done is about the state of the world, government, etc.
***** They aren't random at all.
Ritchie Drama Just like Thy Art Is Murder!
***** Just because you don't understand the lyrics - does not make the lyrics random, lol.
lol its crazy how it seems most people are completely missing/ignoring the message of the song, to the point of actually calling the lyrics bad.
if it wasn't apparent already through the lyrics and clear visual images given in the video the song is about pollution and how we're treating the earth. Regardless of the music or lyrics (which I think are awesome)
it's so important that a band is taking the time and effort to talk about this in their record.
Piper Drums Agreed!!
Piper Drums the band is great, but they are not environmentally aware in the slightest. Stuck to music I say, but keep the lyrics away from political propaganda one way or the other.
Stick
The drums are orgasmic.
Every new single gets better and better, marcus keeps killing it!
I as a musician, I understand the new sound. It's complex, yet minimalistic. It's brilliant how it all blend's together so well.
I really like it. Probably my favourite from the upcoming album, thus far. Lyrics are good and the instrumentals fit them well.
This is a fantastic track. Great melodies and that breakdown is fantastic. Also some of my favorite guitar work on the entire album is in this track.
"Cover your footprints like a bandaid on a broken arm." I love this line! It's sooo poetic.
Every song so far has brought tears to my eyes. Something about Marcus and this new sound feels so native and deep to me..
Northlane doesn't change. Look, they're still searching the truth on triangles.
They already found it. The truth is we all suffer)
Saveliy Karakashev LOLOL
Saveliy Karakashev you.. you clever.. son..of..a biscuit..
Dude, that first riff transports me to a place where I was very happy every time I listen to it
I'm so glad one of my friends just showed me this band. I'm already in love with this sound!
“Show me a way out. SHOW ME A WAY OUT.” My goodness, I got chills after listening to that part!
"Cover your footprints, like a band-aid on a broken arm" I've been in love with this line and how Marcus delivers it ever since the single was pieced together. It just fits the message of the song so well
Best song off the album
The mix is amazing!!
honestly guys if you was true Northlane fans you would embrace the new sound that they are trying to deliver to you, just because it doesn't sound like there old stuff doesn't mean you give up on them, they are making an album that is sounding so natural and clean that it is a good move for them plus they are not the only band to evolve to a style, im digging it and cant wait for the album to come out.
Thank you and if you guys have been watching the videos for the new ablum you would know that they want to do something different and show that if you don't like to play it then why make the song
Nitsua being a true northlane fan means enjoying northlane in general... not following them like a puppy and riding their dick when they produce music that is different from what made you a northlane fan in the first place
azbavenger24 And guess what man i love there new music as i am all about adapting to new music everyday on this planet, and also hypothetically if they made this album first then they brought out there old albums after would all this hate about change of sound still happen? yes it would because some people just want 5 albums of the same style and sound and that's what makes bands boring
Nitsua THANKYOU
People who use the term "true fans" should rethink life.
so many amazing songs, this is the first band out of the 20+ that i listen to where i almost like every single song they've made
I was waiting for this to come out since node pre launch!
So sick I can dig this now, keep it up
Node is easily their best album in my opinion.
Marcus has pushed the band so much further.
Love that northlane can always make such a huge atmospheric sound. Even with the mixing the every one complained about on the last single, you have to admit they never fail to have a huge ensemble sound. Though they Mmy have lost the punch that we all loved in singularity, the heart and mellow vibe of the singles that have been released are starting to become my favorite songs by northlane. I miss Adrian, but wow Marcus is really pulling it off! Keep it up northlane! Still my number one favorite band and I'm proud to say that!
The visuals and editing! Freaking awesome!
Favorite song ever released by these guys. I'm hooked.
These lyrics hit different now
It does. Nobody took this message as seriously as today back in 2015. Ironic and amazing how "visionary" this song seems.
Already Preordered the Album and damn it just keeps getting better and better. great job Northlane Marcus was a great choice for the new vocalist.

Periphery - The walk.
I thought i was the only one
***** almost bro almost i hear it too not quite there tho
***** aah shit can't unhear
***** bruh
***** dayum
This is such a sick song, Marcus' vocals are amazing and the mix is much better than in the last song (in my opinion) can't wait for Node!
my fave song on the album! everything works!!!!
Love the visuals! Props to whoever made this.
So sick! Can't wait to hear the new stuff live!
Lyrically brilliant. The message is harsh and beautiful at the same time.
Found them on a Spotify Playlist! Great song!
You know that feeling of listening to a song once and wanting to listen to it again, but you’ve forgotten the name of the song and the artist?
Well, 5 years later, here we are. Took way too damn long lmao.
Been following these guys for a good 6 months and this music is probably the most nostalgic, inspirational and moving sound that has blessed the ears of mine and so many more! These guys are fucking insane
This is so beautiful!
Sweet Abraham.....this is glorious
Adrian was amazing! The music was Amazing! But Marcus is super talented and the music is still extremely good! Northlane isn't dead, just different and that's not a bad thing!
omfg I'm getting high school flashbacks lol
first song I hear from this band... lovit!
I'm in love with the music video..oml..
This is great! I love the message!
Beautiful, guys. I instantly hit repeat when the video ended.
I love this song!!
Awesome. So pumped for Node
Discoveries and Singularity were masterpieces. I get similar chills from this. So excited.
Northlane went the Deftones route? Fuck yesss. :)
i love this song so much
still revisitng this masterpiece four years later...
THIS IS SOOO GOOD
why haven't i heard of this band before. they're perfect.
Kinda digging this.
Architects and Northlane must be good friends
can't wait to see you guys @ Quebec city in august
thank you for keeping the universal message alive and giving the band a greater meaning besides just being a fucking beautifully talented band, it is like a movement
Best one so far!
Lyrically Northlane songs are always amazing.
This is the most promising new Northlane song I've heard so far. I can't wait to hear the album.
Haha I'm LOLing so hard at all you small minded people complaining about missing their old sound and how these lyrics are lame. This is some higher consciousness music that they're trying to deliver to you but yet you still find the time to point out the trivial shit and in the end the message goes way past your head. I pray for all of you who aren't consciously aware.
ayosweeets Higher consciousness music? Lol, how high are you right now? It's clearly obvious what they're singing about, doesn't take much analytical power to figure it out.
Said it once, I'll say it again. Northlane are one of the most "awake" bands in the scene. One of the reasons I revere them so much.
Ever since discoveries I've thought Northlane have a unique sound, but the songs they've released from Node so far have sounded like a different genre of metal, love what these guys can produce.
We need a tour with Northlane, Parkway Drive, In hearts wake and The amity affliction!!!
This song just hit me in the face with it's lyrical content. Good job Northlane, I love Marcus :)
Woah this is insanely good
Northlane never fail to impress!
This stuff sounds so sick, but imagine grabbing Adrian's screams and combining them with Marcus's singing. He's gone I know, but I think it'd be the most perfect thing ever.
Abstrumente will always be their best song. I shook hands is a very close second
Discoveries is such an overrated album
Brendon stacey Don't think it's overrated at all. Great album all around
awesome band album and song !
I love this new Northlane
I HAVE NO WORDS
Amazing!
This song makes my stomach fill with butterflies. I am SO in love with this song!!!!!
every new northlane song has taken a few listens to grow on me. you begin to realize it's all about the band, not just adrian or marcus. but I really do dig the new vocals
Digging this new sound.....
Way way way better then Ra and Obelisk. Now Im pumped for Node.
Rui Carneiro ra was my favourite out of the singles, but i agree for me at least obelisk was a bit of a let down
Love the intro
You fell asleep! You fell asleep! You fell asleep like a bed-bug!
Some of their stuff is good. I'm going to a show in August. i'm mostly there to see Oceans Ate Alaska and In Hearts Wake. But this isn't bad.
I cant wait to hear some more fucking tracks so far its sounding like a badass record
Easily the best song on the album, i can't imagine the breakdown in a pit must be fucking epic, need to come to sheffield!
This song.. Something about it feels so much better than the others. I don't know how, but this song makes me even more keen to pre-order! Obelisk, Ra and Rot where amazing, but this song has a unique vibe.
Good old New Zealand aye. Even helping to inspire some of Northlanes lyrics.
incredible lyrics
loving the Deftones vibe on some parts!
PLASTIC FARTS
This isn't the first time Northlane writes about farts, "Windbreaker" was written specfically about farts confirmed by Josh 10/10
Nope
Brendon stacey Are you Josh? No, you're not. www.reddit.com/r/Metalcore/comments/2uj89b/we_are_northlane_and_were_here_to_hang/co94zs9
Oh they got a new singer?! I've listened to northlane for a while but i never liked more than a couple of songs and then i hear this! This is a song i really enjoy and have replayed a lot today!
