This is the second home in which ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).
Did it bother anyone else that the inside lock was installed crooked?
It bothered me ha
Sure threw me off a bit
I couldn’t stop looking at that!
Chewbakkah yes 🙄
Yes!
That is one really nice door lock. Simplisafe isn't playing when they say simply. It's a very simple intuitive system!
It really is!
Dude great video you just uploaded and just so happens im installing one tomorrow at work
Glad it was helpful for you. Keep an eye on that calibrating. That stumped me, but you can figure it out by diving into the setting on the big keypad box.
OMG you are so soothing to listen to! You would kill it doing ASMR
Lol 😂 thanks
Helpful video Juan, thanks. I'm glad you mentioned not having the monthly monitoring, that was one thing I was curious about. I was also curious as to what features you can access, once again without paying for monitoring or having the "interactive" plan they mention on the site, outside of the auto-arm lock feature you demonstrated here? I want to be able to work the lock from my phone while away from the house. Thanks in advance.
Hey Todd, glad the video was helpful. Unfortunately you can't lock and unlock from your phone, unless you pay that monthly subscription. But as long as someone has the code to the pin pad outside the door they can get in.
Thanks for posting! Been looking for a video and you're the first to review it!
When i was shopping around to get it I could not find a review video for it so I thought I would go ahead and make one. Glad it was helpful for you.
Just curious since the keypad is just a separate wireless option will the lock work without it being mounted and in use on the door? I don't have a real use for the keypad since I have a keyfob and I like the idea of it looking like a regular lock from the outside.
Yeap, the lock will still work even without using the keypad, and you can control the smart lock using your SS app through mobile or web.
Good vid but UGH I hate the side panel. I wanted minimal - having a second thing inside sucks. I assume you can just not use it and use keypad outside to lock and unlock? Or does the outside only unlock?
Kind of wanted to see the outside of the door mate did you still have a key hole? Where did you put the pad?
I made another video that shows the outside. Go to 5:57 on this video - ruclips.net/video/GBiLcuqeuIU/видео.html
Does the keypad for the lock that goes on the outside of the door screw in or do you just use that tape on the backside of it? If it is just the tape, looks like someone could just rip it off very easily.
All of Simplisafes items can be either 3M applied, or screwed on. Everything comes with adhesive, or screws! User choice.
Can you show how to add the keypad for the lock with the screws please!
Hint for you, being as i own everything simplisafe has there signs suck lol so what i did was spray a few coats of clear coat on it as the sign will fade fast.
Thanks for the tip. I will have to do that soon before it breaks or chips lol.
The outside key pad just sticks on.. that sounds secure.
Mines been on for 3 years through rain storms, harsh winters, and hundreds of uses. Still original batteries and has never fallen off
@@zacherydrzik7122 Thanks for the info... I do like the look of this unit.
What if there is a power outage, how would you lock/unlock it?
You can still use your keys because your existing lock is used on the outside fo the door.
It also runs on batteries, the base station and the smart lock so as long as you are home before the batteries die, you should be fine.
Thanks for the video. I needed to see how easy it was to install.
Glad it helped
I never use the away setting... I only use home. That way the second any alarm is tripped the alarm goes off im notified on my phone immediately... I don't want a 45 second delay before my alarm trips or arms. and since im a police officer I'm my own professional monitoring.
Thanks for your video. Wish you had showed the other side of the door. Did you keep the front of your old deadbolt lock on?
Yes I used my same deadbolt on the other side
I have a $1000 worth of simplisafe alarm system. At least 1 of every sensor and a ton more. Love everything about it. Family has 3. I do however proudly display my ADT signs on every door and window. Mom said she heard the signs are bad idea. As alarm could be bypassed. So I figure while they are trying to bypass it my other 3 will go off at least. Recording them offsite on 3 diff camera set ups. I live in the heroin capital of the us.
That's a really good idea to have a couple different set ups. Especially if you are in a bad area. Maybe look into some cheap Wyze camera for some added protection. I have them, along with a ring doorbell, and Blink cameras. Being covered from a few different companies.
I have 3 arlo. 3dlink, 2 wyze plans, and 6 wyze cams total. It's a work in progress. But I cant tell ya how impressed i am with wyze. Especially over arlo because $199/cam hurts so much. Have outdoor housings for wyze they just aren't up yet.
It's not that I live in down town Mosul or anything. But it can get pretty bad. I have a 3 car garage apartment so I'm watching a ton of corners and different things to be only 2400 square feet total. I want my garage under military level security lol.
Thank you! 👍
It’s on there, nice and crooked.
You are correct unfortunately
@@JuanCamacho21 “one bad apple spoils the whole barrel” --- a terribly unfortunate correctness? 🤷♂️
Thanks for your video. Do the keys light up?
Yes they do
Noticed a battery tab in the Base Station, Wireless Keypad and the door lock keypad. Did the lock itself have a battery tab as well?
Yes it sure does.
Thanks for the video. Question-can’t the bad person break the glass pane on your door and unlock the deadbolt?
Thanks for watching and commenting. You are not the only person that mentioned that to me lol. I guess that's where my smart cameras would help in capturing an image of that bad guy. I will do a video on them soon.
You should get the SimpliSafe door and window sensors. You don’t have to pay a monthly fee.
I will look into them
So now could I buy window sensors and door sensors and connect it with this?
Yes you can. As long as you have the Simplisafe monthly plan.
Juan Camacho so this will come with the keypad and everything at no extra cost?
The lock is crooked. Did you straighten it out?
Unfortunately I have not, and I talk about it in my review video I just released this week lol. Check it out - ruclips.net/video/4ddtUwb7h6I/видео.html
@@JuanCamacho21 Yeah, take the lock off, reposition the bracket so it is straight, then reattach. That should fix the locking issue you talked about on the other video.
I've had simplisafe for over five years. Most of their stuff works ok. Their lock however is horrendous. Also their customer service is horrible. It will take you anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes to reach a person who will tell you to reinstall it basically. Then it will crap out again. The worse part is that the keypad on the outside won't activate the lock when this happens since they're both wireless and communicate through the main keypad inside. So you will get stuck outside unless you have the physical key. My house is all keypad access so I've had to enter from the back when this happens. In any case, save your money and buy a nicer non wireless keypad lock. They work a lot better.
Wondering if I purchase just the SimpliSafe lock, does it come with the base station or is that an extra add-on? I didn’t see them sold separately (but not today sure). Not looking for the door/window sensors, just the lock like you have here. Would love to know- TIA!!
It comes with the base station.
Do you have to pay the monthly services or you can just choose to not?
Does this prevent someone from breaking the glass and reaching in and unlocking the door?
No it doesnt
They do have a glassbreak sensor that will trigger the siren immediately
Now I will preface this by saying I am actually a simply safe user myself. Have the whole alarm system and I watched your video because I'm getting this door lock and I want to know how to install it so I'm not just throwing stuff out here to make simply safe look bad. But I do not use their yard sign I actually have an ADT one for One Good reason. I watch another RUclipsr called the lock picking lawyer and he has found a let's just say bug with the SimpliSafe system that can make you vulnerable to break-ins very easy to the point it costs like $2 if I'm not mistaken. I'm not going to come out here and tell people how to break into SimpliSafe how to get around it but needless to say it isn't hard and having the simply safe sign outside makes it easy for a would-be criminal to know how he can get in. Now me having an ADT sign instead of SimpliSafe would make it a lot more difficult to get in because anything that would work to let a thief in with an ADT system installed will not work with a SimpliSafe and vice versa. That's why my buddy was so willing to slap signs with me cuz it does leaves one more line of defense will say. I'm just throwing this out there and hope you'll find it helpful. But like I said I'm not doing this to knock simply safe I love my system and just like any lock or security system out there there's going to be vulnerabilities and it's best to mitigate them as much as possible. And thank you for this video
Thanks for the input! Good to know.
So you completely missed the set up of the lock pin pad
Do you still have capability to unlock the door with a key on the outside? Curious because I’m moving into an apartment but I don’t want to have to give my code out for maintenance.
Yes you still use your existing deadbolt so you can still lend out your key if needed. Or you can change your code and make a custom code for the maintenance man.
Juan Camacho did you already have an existing hub? Or how did you get the hub, keypad and lock only?
@@JoAnnaDANKT The Hub came with the lock I purchased.
We purchased a simplisafe video doorbell and security system. We did not realize there was a glitch in the system and we received two complete systems (and were charged for two). When we tried to set the system up we had so many issues getting the cameras (including the doorbell camera) to read the QR code we didn't even realize the second box was a duplicate until we were outside of the return window. As a result, they will not allow us to return the duplicate -- they suggested we sell it on eBay to recoup part of our investment. So disappointed in the customer service.
So you let a box sit for 30 days?
My deadbolt is under the handle, not on top. Could I install the smart lock upside down?
Yeah I wouldn't see why you couldn't do it that way.
So if i already have the simpisafe security system do I need to have to base tower things?
Yes it comes with it.
Where is the reset button on keypad
Can the lock be controlled by an app? Can you have individual codes for different family members/cleaning lady?
Hi John, thanks for watching and commenting. It can be controlled by the app if you have the monthly plan. I don't have that so I can't control it from my mobile. Yes you can put in multiple codes for different people. That's one fo the great features of this lock. Thanks for the questions, I am making a video on the FAQ's on this lock here in a day or so. Keep an eye out for that.
Nice video, thanks. Is the exterior keypad just stuck on by adhesive tape? What's to stop someone from just pulling it off and stealing it?
That's a great question! It is only stuck by adhesive tape. Someone could steal it if they wanted. I would really hope no one would though cause it's useless without the other components. But someone might do it to be annoying.
@@JuanCamacho21 We have a full Simplisafe system that works great. It's fine for us for everything to be wireless and stuck on by adhesive tape indoors. But I wonder not only if someone could just take the outdoor keypad, but also just how long the tape would last with exposure to the elements. Thanks for your help!
Hola Juan, so the deadbolt doesn’t require any kind of power to be able to to lock and unlock it from the SimpliSafe app.?
Just the batteries that you put in the lock, that's all.
You are not locked in to a monthly rate btw. There are no contracts and 15 dollars a month for police/fire monitoring is a fantastic rate.
That is a pretty good rate!
which app controls the doorlock? I only purchased the doorlock!?
If you only purchased the lock, then the app is not needed. I bought the lock only also. The app only works if you are paying the monthly simplisafe subscription.
@@JuanCamacho21 so there is no way for me to unlock the lock remotely!?
@@pickemparty Unfortunately no. You would have to pay for the monthly plan.
Good to know. They lost my business, because I have to pay a subscription to use it how I want.
It doesn't have a way to arm/disarm via cellphone
Kinda wish the outside pin pad was screwed onto the “deadbolt” thing cause I’m afraid someone is just going to snatch it off my door 💀
I don't like it, someone can just steal the front panel
Shoulda used a level
plastic tabs and not a full rotation it looked like
Seems like a lot of hardware for just a lock
Why didn't you show the outside so we can see how it looks on the outside do you keep your old lock on the door on the outside if so that will look like Sh*t how do you put the new one on the outside with tape and if so I'm sure everyone would like to see how that looks
I plan on doing another video that will be a complete review. This was more of a unboxing and setup. Yes I reuse the old old on the outside. Keep an eye out for the review video coming soon. Thanks for watching.
SimpliSafe commercial guy said "I'm full-time bugler and part-time conman" How can you trust a product is being advertised from a Conman? How do we know he is not trying to conpeople with that product? LOL
Good point lol. I haven't seen that commercial yet. So far it's been a pretty good lock for me.
What are your thoughts on this lock 6 months later
I will do a review video on that here very soon! Thanks for the idea.
@@JuanCamacho21 sounds like a wonderful idea
Man it’s crooked.
720p is a pain on my QHD screen
