      To all the posters responding about it being crooked - I just installed one of these and now I understand why he had to do this. In my case as well the deadbolt doesn't recede all the way unless unlocked with some force (manually) whereas when it unlocks electronically, it turns too slowly leaving some deadbolt exposed. I'm astounded Simplisafe doesn't provide more flexibility in their adapters to account for this, I'm super bummed.

    This is perfect to install in my door that is connected to my garage.

  • @shaunrogas5562

    The issue with your lock being crooked is due to the mounting plate not being installed properly or it's not tight. Make sure you don't screw the mounting plate too tight but it should be tight enough not to move around. Even in the state you have it now, if you push the lock to the left, it will move.

    • @JuanCamacho21
      @JuanCamacho21  4 года назад +2

      I will have to try and straighten it when I loosen it up. I stare at it all the time lol.

      10:40 I agree. The mounting plate is crooked because his original deadbolt keyhole on the exterior is rotated. He just needs to turn it a little before tightening everything together. I would probably put everything together loose enough to rotate, but tight enough to stay still once adjusted, then tape the exterior lock in place to the door while I tighten things down for good.

    Also the two gripes you mentioned have nothing to do with simplisafe but are specific to your door install. Just one DIY person to another. Great Video. Thanks for sharing.

  • @SuperClashfan

    so the part of you having to push the door to get the deadbolt to lock it properly. Did you find a way to fix that? I wonder if screwing in the door better would make a difference

  • @scas9515
    @scas9515 4 года назад +3

    If the door deadbolt isn't unlocking all the way, it's probably due to the door seal applying pressure to the door and causing resistance on the deadbolt. Try pulling the door a little to relieve the resistance while it's unlocking.

    • @JuanCamacho21
      @JuanCamacho21  4 года назад

      Should I pull it inward and hold it?

    • @blkretrosamurai
      @blkretrosamurai 4 года назад

      Yeah I have this problem with just a traditional deadbolt. To lock it I have to push the door inward so that its completely closed and the deadbolt lines up properly with the hole it slides into. I think it's an alignment issue, I may need to get a professional to look at it.

    • @sagemoonchild333
      @sagemoonchild333 4 года назад

      @@blkretrosamurai Yeah I've seen this happen before. Either they will adjust the door, strike plate, or all of the above to get it lined up perfectly. I've seen wooden doors and frames warp and cause this. Metal doors and frames are less likely to have this problem. It sill happens to them too though.

      @@JuanCamacho21 you bought the main hub and keypad if I understand? That is the main system... minus the add on sensors and benefits that are the lesser cost. I believe even with the door sensors you dont have to pay monitor cost fyi. Also if you add the very inexpensive door sensor with that lock it will allow for the auto lock and not lock OPEN mode as it will know when closed... I think a 24.99 add on. Good luck in either case and thanks for the review.

    Good day quick question.. if you dont key in your pin and just key in the real keys would it not deactivate the system or the alarm will go off?

    • @JuanCamacho21
      @JuanCamacho21  4 года назад

      I didn't have the alarm system but I bet it would set the alarm off without being to deactivate it. That might be a good question for them.

    • @zskj14
      @zskj14 3 года назад +2

      If you have the alarm system set up and monitoring and you open your door with a key, you have so long to turn off the monitoring system via the key pad before it sets the alarm off.

    Don’t you think it’s kind of stupid having this system on a French door, where someone can break the window and unlock the door from outside? 🤔 Old school locks are always better...

    • @KoiKoy56
      @KoiKoy56 3 года назад +2

      If someone broke your windows, they'd be able to unlock the lock regardless of whether it's a smart or old school lock.
      I don't understand your point here... BUT, SimpliSafe of course is a security company. If you used their security system, the burglar who broke your window would be recorded by your smart door bell and your motion sensor would pick up the illegal activity. On top of that, if you had the broken glass sensor as well, you'd have the perfect combo to combat someone breaking your window.

    • @alfaivre2990
      @alfaivre2990 2 года назад

      Could break door glass or any window. Doesn't make much of a difference. Simplisafe has glass break sensors. Also, if you want to prevent broken windows or a French door, 3M has a film you can place on glass that makes it like a car windshield, it'll break but not shatter and keeps the glass in place. Downside, if you have a fire or emergency, can't break it our either.
