I’m 66 yrs old and was able to follow your video to replace my auger! Unlike other videos I watched, yours was slow enough for me to follow and you showed the orientation of the blades and washers so I could put them on properly! Thank you!
Outstanding instructions on changing out the broken auger in GE ice maker. As most other comments, this was by far the best video I have seen with slow and illustrated step-by-step instructions. I just finished my auger installation and also wanted to write and say a special thank you my Friend!
I have never commented on any RUclips video before. I have to say this was perfect step by step, easy, and everything worked. My eyes are still wide open. something simple. i felt like it was a miracle on the repair and instructions. Thanks for the blessing
I just finished watching your repair video. My mom and her husband had not had a working ice maker since they moved into this new home in Florida! I found the correct replacement auger online, ordered it and promised the two of them I would take care of it. The part arrived today so I attempted to make the repair myself. With the plastic housing out and all of the screws removed, I couldn't take the auger off of the blades. Thankfully I found your video and was able to complete it! Awesomeness!
I'm not the most handy girl around my house but I was able to follow the instructions and low and behold, SUCCESS! I find it helpful to take pics of the each part before I take them apart to help me put things back together because I don't always remember what I thought I saw. Thanks, that saved me some money!
Hi Audrey, thanks for the kind words and the DIY story you shared with us. Glad to have saved you some money. Congrats on showing our viewers that home DIY doesn't just have to be for the experts! Thanks for watching!
Thanks Steve me and my daughter just removed a broken piece of the plastic wheel assembly which was jammed solidly in the blade from the metal blade parts of the plastic wheel from the blade. She watched the video and I disassembled the icemaker. It took less than 30 minutes. Saved me about $500 on a service call. Thank you Steve.
Thank you so much for this video. It was a lifesaver. My dad called me, like he usually does when he needs something fixed, and he told me he needed a whole new fridge because the ice maker wasn’t working. I checked it out and saw the auger was broken. He tried to use an ice pick to break up the ice and he broke it. I told him we just needed to replace the auger not the whole fridge. Then he calls me to tell me he has spent forever trying to install it and he needs a new icemaker. I looked online and saw that the trays are over $100 so I thought I would try to fix it myself. After about half an hour of feeling like a monkey trying to shove a square peg into a round hole I decided check RUclips to see if I could just fix it myself. Luckily I came across this video and I successfully installed it myself. I canceled my Amazon order.
This video saved me after I bought the new auger from GE and paid a lot more for it than on Amazon. GE could NOT provide me with any helpful instructions on how to install it. Then I found this video and was able to do the repair. Thank you very much for doing this video.
Thank you! My son placed a bottle of water in the ice cube tray and of course it got stuck in the mechanism and the bottom of the bin cracked. Received a new bin from GE - but of course, no directions! This video was a lifesaver. Thank you!
Thank you so much for helping me through this repair. I originally tried to do this on my own, and when I pulled off the d ring and the parts scattered, I thought I could never put it back correctly. Your step by step instructions made it simple. I owe you a cool clear tall glass of ice tea.
I have to offer you a sincere thanks for this. I was in tears trying to follow 3 others who just wern't showing what i needed. My parts were dropped off work shelf and i needed help putting them back in correct order and you did a beautiful job (after almost 4 hours of struggle with others) of showing simply how to put back in order. thanks again :)
FYI my replacement auger was a little longer than the broken auger. Ultimately I had to leave a spacer and some washers out but it now works like a charm. Seriously amazing video especially the pace, calming voice and music. Kept me at ease even when I had to take it apart twice on my way to figuring out that I had to leave out the spacer.
I am a pretty mechanically inclined guy. I thought I could do this with no problem. Needless to say, I had a problem. I turned your video in usage 3 words that totally bailed me out. " Left hand thread." LOL So then all my parts came in and I went to put it back together. That's when I discovered all of the crusher teeth were actually in the wrong order when I took it apart. Apparently someone had been into this before and didn't do it right! The order you have a man just makes sense. It's all back together in its working like a champ. Bank you so much for your help.
You helped me replace my Auger Blade in 2014 but, that GE part only holds up for about 9 months and then brakes. I'll be watching this video again since I ordered a replacement auger blade from a third party parts manufacturer that touts much better durability. I can't believe I did this job back in 2014. I could only do it because of your video.
My husband and I just watched your video on replacing auger. You are great! We paused and replayed and got everything back together. Works great. Thanks so much.
Thanks so much for your help, Steve. Not only did your videos help me replace our burnt out ice maker but a broken auger as well. I'm guessing that you saved me at least $150 and I'm very grateful. Thanks, again!
I too never have left a message but this was above deserved....got the auger thru GE. After I listen to my husband try I asked him to bring it over...I utubed and up you came. Extremely teachable voice, clear instructions. When frustration set in we backed up the video and watched slower. So many small things to do as putting a plastic cover on the right way verses banging it in. Many thanks. You have saved a marriage and a dent to the bank account. I have subscribed....
Bought the Auger and found this video......each step was perfect for us. The only part that is a little difficult is getting the tabs to release, but that is just the way the mechanism is put together. Thanks you so much for this awesome video.
I can't thank you enough for this very well done video. We disassembled our ice maker to clean it and remove rust, and my reassembly effort was stuck, due to the minimal notes I took during disassembly. Even though this wasn't my ice maker model, your video answered all of my questions and I was able to complete the reassembly. You are providing a wonderful service. Thank you again. Mike
Hi Steve, I wanted to tell you that I appreciate your detailed explanations on all of your videos. With your help, I was able to fix my GE Side-by-side refrigerator (the same exact one as ...on this video) 😁; I changed the heating element and thermostat by myself. I'm really proud of myself as I have RA and was recently diagnosed with Lumbar Spine Stenosis and need to take many breaks, but I did it - all thanks to you and God, of course. Thank you so much for your excellent videos! God bless & have a wonderful day!!! 😊
Thank youuuuuuuuu. You saved a Friday night that was about to go left. Hubby and I watched about 3 other videos before finding yours that was PERFECT and helped us put everything back together. YOU ROCK!!!!
Thank you Steve and parts select. I now have a working ice maker again. My husband and kids are happy. It was really easy to follow. I couldnt have done it without you!
I did replace my fridge auger assembly a month ago while watching someone's else video. Since then I have been having problems with the ice dispenser. Finally, I found this video that shows a close up shot of the blades numbering. By watching this videos I realized that I had previously mounted the blades out of order and that seemed to being the problem. Thanks a million.
Not to be redundant but WOW! Great video! I wouldn't have even attempted this without this video. Just a warning. It took me over 30 minutes to get those tabs to pop free on both sides of the front to get the auger assembly free. Good luck
Very helpful, just what I needed to get the new auger I bought installed. My wife will be thrilled to have the icemaker working again. Thanks for taking the time to record and post your video.
I purchased the winding piece for about $25, i took it apart till dismantling the blades from the piece and i didnt want to use any power cause i thought i might brake it. This video just lead me the right way. Great work guys, please keep it up. Thank you.
Thank you for posting these easy to follow instructions. After viewing your film, I took pictures at key points along the way to help make sure the assembly would be correct as I put it back together.
Steve, You made me a hero in my household! Great instructions! I didn't have any parts leftover - Question.... I didn't have guitar music while working... did I do something wrong? LOL! Thank you!
Tip: When you disassemble all the blades from the shaft, slide them all onto a cable tie in proper order. Then later, you can cut the cable tie and slide them all back on without obsessing over the order. At 10:30, make sure the little bracket is BETWEEN the small crimps on the shaft. Replacement augers you might purchase do not have flats on the end shaft ground down far enough towards the plastic. You might have to file off about 1/4" to make the flat go further back.
Thank you so much for making this video. I was able to purchase the auger for under $20 on Amazon and replaced it without problems. You saved me hundreds!!
This was very detailed step by step directions. I was able to make my repairs of replacing GE Icmaker Auger! Thanks for helping me save money on this repair!
OK I am back and I'm happy to report: IT WORKED, IT WORKED! Thank you soooo much for the vid. These simple instructions probably saved me $200 in labor fees. Awesome!
Just finished putting the unit back together. Waiting for ice to drop into the tray so I can give her a test drive. Fingers crossed! This video was pretty great. So easy to follow! I'll report back shortly on my success/failure :-) Funny story - the first time, I got the wrong auger and didn't find out until I had the bin disassembled and stuck the auger in only to find it was 4 inches too short!
Thank you for posting this you made it so much easier, especially considering mine was installed incorrectly from the factory. I forgot to take pictures of it before I took it apart and your video saved my day! THANK YOU!
Searched and searched today, finally paydirt. Will save me almost $200 in parts alone (in lieu of complete assembly).Agree completely with 3 prior comments.
Thanks a bunch. was kinda nervous about breaking the plastic when i was removing the two main body parts. flawless instructions. well done and thanks again for the help. probably saved me about $175.
Thank you so much for this video! My husband is always working and I wanted to do this myself so that he'd have one less thing to do! The instructions were wonderful - step by step - very easy to follow! (It helped that the fridge in your video was my exact model!) Maneuvering the plastic body part out of the main casing was a bit nerve wracking, but it finally popped out without me breaking it...WHEW! Nice to have my icemaker back! :)
Thank you for the left handed thread of the nylon nut tip! I was good until then. That was key to the auger replacement assembly. My wife is happy again!
Very helpful. My Ice maker is working now. Only issue is I have two metal washers that were in my unit that were not in this tutorial. I left them out :-)
I can't offer enough thanks for that instructional video, especially the installation of the crusher blades. It made the repair smooth and easy. It now works like new.
Wonderful video! Thank you so much for showing me how to put it back together as well as take it apart! I started getting nervous when I was taking it apart, hoping I would remember how to put it back together. Thanks again!
Thanks - this answered my one question about dis-assembly of the auger. I used snap ring pliers on the 'E' ring made it easier to remove and install the 'E' ring.
thank you so much, my auger was stuck and no ice , took it apart and realized the front shield was broken and jammed in the auger, I'm sure leaving a water bottle in there from the summer didn't help. anyway, can I still use ice maker without front clear plastic shield? thanks again.
Hey thanks for this video. Just got done replacing my auger and you made it very easy to do. One question though. When I try to dispense ice, I hear a little click, but the auger doesn't spin and nothing happens. Water still comes out, and the auger used to spin before I took it apart and replaced it. Any ideas what this could be?
Parts select - Excellent video which help me install the suger assembly and face shield. I have a nother problem now, once I installed everything back into the freezer and turned the switch back on, now the ice will not dospense when activated in the front. Did I misinstall something? Thanks.
Hello there, great video -- when I went to replace mine though I noticed mine was missing the e ring as well as the washer and the nylon not is broken. Could you give the dimensions for the e ring etc?
Great video. I replaced the auger per the instructions with very little difficulty. When doing that, I found the “dispenser crusher cover” was broken, so I replaced that a week after the auger. Used the same instructions, just skipped part of it. Works great. The only problem I have is that it always crushes the ice It never delivers cubes only. Any idea how to get that part to work?
My bucket assy is slightly different, and I can't get it apart. GE Model PSS26MGPA BB. It has two plastic tabs near the clips that you used the putty knife on. I saw one on-line guide that said you have to break off those plastic tabs before you can remove auger assy. Do you know if that's correct? I'd hate to break it if I don't need to. Also, this is the second time the helix has come disconnected from the auger. I use this dispenser with store bought bags of ice. Is that the reason?
I’m 66 yrs old and was able to follow your video to replace my auger! Unlike other videos I watched, yours was slow enough for me to follow and you showed the orientation of the blades and washers so I could put them on properly! Thank you!
Thankyou for this easily understood video, I feel very satisfied as a 78 year old women who successfully replaced the auger in my ice maker.

No, it can't be the exact one, now that I take a closer look, but it's similar...🙃
Thanks again! 😊

It now works like new.
Great video with simple instructions. I had it done in less than 30 minutes.
Wonderful video! Thank you so much for showing me how to put it back together as well as take it apart! I started getting nervous when I was taking it apart, hoping I would remember how to put it back together. Thanks again!

Thanks so much! This was a great how to step by step video. I couldn't have done it without it!
Hi Tim, very happy to hear we were able to help you out! Congrats on the home repair.
Excellent video that enlightened me regarding the reverse thread issue to remove the blades. Thanks!!
This was clear, concise and extremely helpful. Thank you kind sir!!
Thanks - this answered my one question about dis-assembly of the auger. I used snap ring pliers on the 'E' ring made it easier to remove and install the 'E' ring.
Hi yooperjon! Thanks for sharing your repair story with us, and for getting in touch. Glad we could help!
thank you so much, my auger was stuck and no ice , took it apart and realized the front shield was broken and jammed in the auger, I'm sure leaving a water bottle in there from the summer didn't help. anyway, can I still use ice maker without front clear plastic shield? thanks again.
Does the j hook for the dispenser go under the bracket in the back or inside of the hole the bracket has?
Excellent video. Just replaced my broken auger with no problem at all.
Excellent! Glad we could help.
Wow, left hand thread. I created an account just to say thanks, that was a great video.
Thanks.
redmist1122 What model number do you have?
GE GSL25JFXBLB
Great help! Good pace and easy to follow instructions!
Hello there, great video -- when I went to replace mine though I noticed mine was missing the e ring as well as the washer and the nylon not is broken. Could you give the dimensions for the e ring etc?
Excelent video on how to fix the ice maker. thank you.
Thanks! Couldn't have done it without this video!

Very glad I watched your video BEFORE attempting this replacement. Thank you!
This video has saved me many times fixing GE JUNK ice makers.
