Bronny is great for some of these players because he’s just the excuse they need to tell everybody in their life for the rest of their life why they didn’t make it in the NBA. But people forget Bronny also has been trained by one of the greatest players who ever lived for his entire life, and has his DNA as well. There are so many professional athletes who are exactly where they are because they grew up with fathers (or mothers now) who played on that level. Look at Christian McCaffrey. I’m sure he had preferential treatment, but is he also the best running back in the NFL arguably? Unquestionably. Ken Griffey Jr? Grew up, hanging out in major league dugouts around major league players. I’m sure he got preferential treatment, but he took good advantage of it, and was pretty much better than everybody else who played the game. What about Jalen Brunson? Preferential treatment? How about he probably also understood what it took to do the work that is necessary to be a great player because he was around it every day of his childhood. He didn’t grow up with the greatest player in the history of the game, but he was still around professionals for his whole life. If you grow up, and your father is the best electrician in the business, and if you follow him around and go to work with him every day, and he shows you how he does his work, chances are if you want to be an electrician you’re gonna be better than most kids who just decide one day to be an electrician. Experience matters, and what you’re exposed to matters. That doesn’t mean it’s fair, but life ain’t fair. That’s for sure. It will be interesting to see what happens once the season begins, and how he performs over time. if he can play, everybody will see it. If he can’t, everybody will see that. This won’t last long if he can’t play. But as far as the opportunity he’s getting, this ain’t just in the NBA. If your mother or your father are successful in some field, chances are they’re gonna try their best to give you an opportunity to do what they do if you want to do that. They want to help their kid. That’s what good parents do. Fair or not. Bron loves his son. I’m pretty sure if you had a kid and he wanted to have a RUclips channel with millions of followers, at some point, you would handover everything that you have accumulated and worked hard for and let him or her take over for you, followers included. The thing about the nba when it comes to role players, are for them to be ready when their names are called. Hinson balled out when his opportunity was given, even though he didn't start. He along with players from the last draft and a few other bench players were acknowledged. Knecht played awful his first 2 or 3 games.. No one complained about his still getting minutes. I think it's going to be interesting to see how much playing time Reddick and LeBron feel Bronny "deserves" and whether or not the Lakers manage to finish in the top 10 in the west this coming season. I'll be shocked if they come anywhere close to making it to the finals and at age 40 LeBron will likely see further decline in his abilities.
It's not just about preferential treatment. Bronny had the second most minutes on the Lakers. He was the 8th guy on the summer-league team ppg. Other guys with less time were doing much better, and a few of his teammates would have done better had they had the opportunities. It is not about what narrative the media wants to create, it is more about how players wearing the Laker uniform are treated. If they are not given the chance to earn their way onto the team and someone else has it given to him, this destroys chemistry, and the Lakers cannot hope for loyalty in return - not from the players that were screwed in the summer league, not from any player on the roster not named Lebron James.
