  • The latest updated list of all of the robot vacuums we recommend: www.consumeran...
The Shark IQ (we tested the RV1001AE) is one of few robot vacuums on the market that features an auto-empty dock with a bagless design. We generally don't recommend it though, because of poor edge performance and its inability to generate even one map during testing.
In this review we analyze the Shark's carpet (general and deep cleaning), hard floor, edge, and hair (human and pet) pickup performance. We also discuss its raw performance (CFM and suction), navigation, battery life, bin size, and noise output.
    0:04 Model we tested
    0:20 CFM
    0:24 kPa
    0:28 Carpet cleaning
    1:14 Carpet deep cleaning
    1:26 Hard floor cleaning
    1:38 Edge Performance

2:48 Pet hair test (short hair)

could the side brushes be replaced with better side brushes?

I've had mine for a few weeks and everything you mentioned is true. I have long hair that's gotten tangled on the brush roll. But, I'm happy with the price point and self emptying bin. I'm definitely going to invest more into my next robot vacuum though!

I like the fact that is a bagless storage of dirt.

Will you be testing the Shark AI and Shark AI self empty

I do plan on testing at least one or two more Shark robot vacuums this year, and those are on my list to potentially buy for testing and review.

Where do you get human hair from?

This vacuum has a critical flaw that people don't realize until they use it a while. The software is BROKEN. If you tell it to clean a specific room, it literally just **doesn't work** 75% of the time. You can confirm the map is labeled correctly as many times as you want, but tell it to clean the kitchen and you'll find it doing your bathroom. Sometimes after it does 1 incorrect room, it'll then do the correct room next. Other times it'll just do the whole house. The map also deletes itself about once every 2-3 months.
Point being, don't buy this piece of garbage. They ruined a great physical vacuum with abysmal software.

You're 100% right. The software used to suck but after a couple app updates my robot vacuum works better than it used to when it comes to cleaning the proper room.

What's funny is that Shark Patented this single-arm side-brush design.

    • @consumer-analysis

It's a terrible design and one I hope they don't implement on future models.

@@consumer-analysis the AI self empty still has the single arm side brush but on the AI self empty it spins fast than on all the others

@@consumer-analysis Shark robots are kinda stupid NGL. Their Shark AI model according to a user took 2 runs to build a map, which is atypical for LiDAR robots. Old Shark IQ generations took 30+ runs to map out the home. Their side brush is stupid as well. A ton of bristles flings debris perfectly into the middle, but a 3 or 5-way design is good enough and on some robots, they even offer speed-sensing side brushes, meaning that the side brush spins faster along the edge to get into edges deeper. (Roborock is one of them)

What can I say? I try my best to say "human" and sometimes it just doesn't work out.
