To coin an already used phrase "That was genius level s**t Mathew Mercer". Yep it sure was. Talk about the long game. I wish I was capable of that level of story telling !! Fantastic stuff.
My favorite part about the whole Viridian reveal is that Sam looked at chat. That was probably from the last week, possibly 2 weeks from when this episode was recorded. So technically a lot of chat knew when they found out
Ok something I just noticed... Matt says "I've been sitting on that since campaign one... [Sounds of Travis screaming overtop] *BEGAN*"... Matt has had this planned for SO MUCH LONGER than we all thought
@@pengsona3770 No, Sam found out this episode. Like 10 or 15 minutes before the reveal. You can watch the episode, see the moment he looked at the chat, and text Liam.
@@SaraTiggs You are correct that Sam found out in this episode. However, it's been speculated that these episodes are pre-recorded two weeks in advance. So while the cast was taping episode 102, the chat Sam was reading was reacting to the end of episode 100 where Viridian was first introduced.
i think it was confirm on twitter after the episode that they indeed record episode 102 while episode 100 was broadcasted. So yeah, the chat figured it out two episodes before the actual reveal
This is DM-ing at level “over nine-thousand”. The DM had the Players blew their own minds one by one....SEVERAL times in a row. Flashback after flashback....all the way to the Beginning of their quest. To manage to End their sessiion on that moment. Orgasmic. Well done!
I’m so excited for next episode. I’m really, really hoping Keyleth shows up at some point in the next session, either NPC’d by Matt for a brief moment to get a lovely family reunion OR (dream scenario), Beau goes briefly AFK so Marisha can jump into Keyleth for this moment
Since one of the stretch goal "prizes" from their kickstarter was to have The Mighty Nein vs Vox Machina, I wonder if this is Matt's first step in setting that up?
Okay but can we just talk about the absolutely maddening chain of events that lead to this moment? Matt had this island tucked away in his back pocket since THE HOME GAME! The entirety of Campaign 1 comes and goes without Vox Machina ever finding a reason to go there or getting any clues at all that Keyleth's mother might be alive. Campaign 2 Laura asks for Jester to get her powers from Artagan - who becomes 'The Traveler'. The Traveler asks Jester for ideas on places for his followers to meet, and she suggests a Volcano. This leads Matt to have Artagan float the idea of going to Rumblecusp for the party. And now HERE WE ARE - 102 episodes into Campaign 2 - discovering Keyleth's mother brainwashed into serving a false god that is simultaneously a HUGE fanservice moment for the fans, a mindblowing twist reveal for Marisha and the cast, AND serves as the perfect dark mirror to Jester's own growing cult with the Traveler!
i was waiting for someone to do a John Hammond voice "We have a t-rex" - also Vilya has seen one and has wild shape. Doesn't that mean she can now turn into a t-rex?
Can we get another video this week where it's basically the moment Sam read the chat and realized it was Keyleth's mom? Just a 30 second clip where he explains what happens while the visual is a noir filter visual of him being surprised.
@@CriLizElfGaming It seems, since a Morkoth is typically a Medium creature and Vokodo is both significantly larger than Medium and clearly has some form of elemental power, that Vokodo is NOT a standard Morkoth. My guess is Matt sort of souped-up Vokodo from the standard CR 11 Morkoth since the party is both 7 competent members strong and accompanied by Vilya, herself a pretty high-power Druid, though she does seem to lack their magic item arsenal. There's also the chance that he's considered that the party might somehow contact Keyleth. While Vilya currently has 'oh my god all my friends are enslaved by this monster' at the forefront of her mind, and has less than 0 clue how powerful her daughter has become, she wouldn't offer up Keyleth's name as a person to call for help, but... it's possible. And Keyleth's presence would very likely trivialize the Vokodo fight, since she can just be like "Sup bitch" and Shapechange into like, an Ancient Dragon or a Pit Fiend or a Balor or something equally ridiculous, even assuming she doesn't instead just remain humanoid and just cast some max-level magic at Vokodo, possibly even hitting it with a Feeblemind.
One of my favorite parts of this is that they didn't know they were still being recorded, so we got to see their genuine nerd-out, and know it wasn't played up for an audience or something.

Just having everyone trying to keep track of two distinct characters while Matt sits back and smiles, having had to play entire rooms of people in the past.
So for all as know so far, Matt thought of this when he and Marisha created Kiki's backstory. Fucking genius.
1 campaign and I don't know how many years later IRL, Keyleth finally has chance to completely wrap her arc...
campaign 2 takes place 20 years after C1 if i remember correctly
25ish years going by aluras age
I rewatched the ending of this episode maybe 10 times. I'm just about finished with campaign 1, so that was very emotional for me. Definitely cried!! Thank you for putting the whole clip in your video!
I think one of my favorite out-of-game moments of C2 so far is Marisha yelling "It got sucked through the water plane... WhAT iS hAppEnING?!?!?" as she falls to the floor
To coin an already used phrase "That was genius level s**t Mathew Mercer". Yep it sure was. Talk about the long game. I wish I was capable of that level of story telling !! Fantastic stuff.
and we thought Sam was the master of the Long Con...
matt's a master of the long game, and boy does it lead to some satisfying things
i can just imagine the chaos this is gonna cause good old keyleth
THANK YOU. I love their reaction to figuring it out SO MUCH. I was for sure Travis when I figured it out lmao. Rewatching this forever. Lol
My favorite part is when Matt says he's been "sitting on that since campaign 1 BEGAN." Years before the stream. I marvel at him yet again.
Travis' reaction to Kiki's mom's reveal was my absolute favorite.
I love Travis reactions. He is like a kid in a toy store. I love them all
9:09 *Top 10 unassuming twitch chat MVPs*
My favorite part about the whole Viridian reveal is that Sam looked at chat. That was probably from the last week, possibly 2 weeks from when this episode was recorded. So technically a lot of chat knew when they found out
4:05 when your crush is really supportive of you flirting with your other crush
I love Matt trying to get the gang back in order after the punching stick
Matt's pretty pleased with himself haha
Ok something I just noticed... Matt says "I've been sitting on that since campaign one... [Sounds of Travis screaming overtop] *BEGAN*"... Matt has had this planned for SO MUCH LONGER than we all thought
oh man, the rush of energy I got at the end!
Tbh ever since they met her the chat was full on believing that she was kealiths mom
Well, that's how Sam found out, by reading the episode 100 chat!
Yeah, they started pre-recording since they came back. Apparently it helps with the virus procedures.
i think it was confirm on twitter after the episode that they indeed record episode 102 while episode 100 was broadcasted. So yeah, the chat figured it out two episodes before the actual reveal
Marisha falling out of her chair and getting back up only to fall again
There is nothing better than Travis' looks of absolute child delights
This is DM-ing at level “over nine-thousand”. The DM had the Players blew their own minds one by one....SEVERAL times in a row. Flashback after flashback....all the way to the Beginning of their quest. To manage to End their sessiion on that moment. Orgasmic. Well done!
Another great video! I loved these moments! Thank you!
I gotta say, it's always fun to watch Marisha become COMPLETELY unglued in real time.
Book hat!
There are two things I look forward to on Mondays. CR upload and your highlight edit.
what if one of them on the island is the dude they sent to Wildemount to find shit on the Briarwoods and never saw again?!
Now imagine that Vilya dies while they fight Mr. Avocado...
Michelangelo Martinez I refuse to do that, hahaha
At least they’ll be able to grab a diamond if they win.
oh nO why would you suggest that to my brain???? D:
There are SO many words in the English language and you just HAD to go with those!
@@mollymauktealeaf Yeah it have been useful when you died as well ;P
Sam remembering another character's mother's name. Oh how the turns have tabled
I’m so excited for next episode. I’m really, really hoping Keyleth shows up at some point in the next session, either NPC’d by Matt for a brief moment to get a lovely family reunion OR (dream scenario), Beau goes briefly AFK so Marisha can jump into Keyleth for this moment
their reactions are everything ahh thank you for this edit!!
I'm just watching the reveal on loop. Everyones reaction is GOLD.
We shouldn’t be surprised that Sam figured it out so early. After all...
He is notoriously good at remembering mothers’ names.
Thumbs up if y’all want to see an Ashari reunion in the near future!!
I could watch Travis react to this game for the rest of my life and I'd be happy
4:52 I so hoped she was gonna say “I smell like a crayon”
Just wanted to say once again
That outro is a great and fitting tune
i was waiting for someone to do a John Hammond voice "We have a t-rex" - also Vilya has seen one and has wild shape. Doesn't that mean she can now turn into a t-rex?
One of the best session endings in Critical Role history.
I love Travis’ reaction
These are some very sweet people and great friends. It permeates this.
Watching live I nearly lost my shit and accidentally dropped my pop onto my keyboard and was almost crying during 3 in the morning while watching
Can we get another video this week where it's basically the moment Sam read the chat and realized it was Keyleth's mom? Just a 30 second clip where he explains what happens while the visual is a noir filter visual of him being surprised.
The sinking Marisha must be a gif by now
Since Campaign 1 began that is FUCKING CRAZY
I mean... it's totally a beholder, and a damn cool one at that.
The current theory actually is that Vokodo is a Morkoth. It's an abberation like a beholder is, but it's a bit different, and it's super cool.
I find it hugely interesting the Tal' Dorei presence here. We have an air ashari and a member of the clasp
🎶 I'm so SHINAAAAYY🎶
