Matt's voice acting is really somethig else.
Like how can a chorus of ghostly voices come from one human’s face
I bet it would be more ominous if he decided to change the background to red for these nonagon dream events
*click* always has been
This guy voices female characters and I can clearly imagine the character in my head. I can almost see a different person looking at him talk, and when he’s jumping between characters I’m not seeing Matt at all.
Not gonna lie, binging Critical Role has kinda spoiled other DM's for me.
I mean if you think about it Sam using Luck because his character didn't want to lose the curse dagger. He trolls but it still kinda fits in the story too in a way.
Yeah, but that would also mean that Sam choosing not to use luck means Veth is intentionally choosing not to use it to do things like save Yasha from falling into lava, and that just doesn't make sense for the character.
You're not wrong.
@@HeyLetsDoAThing to be fair veth has never really liked yasha. even now this deep in the campaign.
@@pinkfoosballtable7875 His role play in that moment made it seem like he genuinely hated Yasha and wanted to make her feel bad. “No one is going to tell you they appreciate you out here besides me” is really toxic stuff and I dislike that people think his antics have been so hilarious. It’s making it harder to enjoy Veth as a character and it doesn’t feel like something she’d do.
@@HeyLetsDoAThing That's a stretch when did Sam said that? " No one is going to tell you they appreciate you out here besides me". the ME at the end I really don't remember. I could be wrong tho
The only time he rerolls a natural 1 lol. We love you Sam
It made me so angry! God I love him xD
@@High-LordHarza That's why I'm glad that he STILL failed the roll. Not so OP after all.
Glad someone does.
i mean ive got this ring of fire resistance...
Mortal Combat voice: FATALITY
Travis: “OKAYY” 😂💀
Is it resistance or protection?
The best part was that later on, he needs the ring
@@iDongu you mean Kombat :p
7:22 “Don’t throw this one Yasha”
Matt describes it as “lightweight and well balanced”; it might actually throw better than her other two swords...
It technically would, being a +3 sword.
4:53 is when Liam fully polymorphed into a squeaky toy.
They’re finally reaching that point in a campaign where they’re the point of the sword when it comes to knowledge. Luckily their friends still had some presents to give them, or this could’ve been a very disconcerting session.
FREAKIN
That Staff of Power is *amazing*
Having played a sorlock who wielded one... f*ck yeah! Staff of Power is a BRUTAL magic item. Even if it didn't have spells, +2 to basically EVERYTHING? Hell yeah.
@@prophetisaiah08 "Oh hey your Int is basically 24 and also here are a bunch of nasty spells that you will have free casts of"
Also
Wall of Force would be an *incredible* spell for the Nein, and Caleb specifically; it's basically an instant-speed Dome that lasts for 10 minutes and gives them time to TP out. It can also be used to capture creatures that are Huge or smaller, block off strategic passageways, cut a line between a dangerous creature and a wounded comrade....
Imagine if, back in Ep 69, the Hand crawled out of his coffin and Caleb just said
"Lmao stay" and trapped him in a Wall of Force while they finished off Obann and KO'd Yasha/dispelled the control.
I desperately want Caleb to pick up Wall of Force. I'm hoping he did for Level 14.
"Sure could use a sword made out of platinum" just had me rolling when Travis sang it in a jingle.
like the Star Razor but in Platinum
How did Matt make those sounds at the end??? I was watching with my eyes closed (it’s how I watch CR sometimes) and I thought he was using a machine for that. My god that man is talented
As an aspiring voice actor I can say that man is a legend and the Gold standard for any in the business.
speaking while breathing in! it takes a LOT of practice
He's a one man soundboard.
I want to rejoin the D&D world so badly, but no such thing where I live and I think that, unless the DM is skilled at story telling like Matt, I might be disappointed. That kind of voice acting I don't think most DMs can match. Geez that last bit was unsettling!
Matt is so god damn good at voice acting that when Caleb and Beau started dreaming I genuinely thought it was edited, like he recorded it beforehand and edited the recording and was playing that, since I wasn't watching the stream. I switched back to the stream to watch instead of just listen and I was so surprised that it was literally just Matt being a master
Matt: "My name is Matt Mercer and Critical Role... is my Master Class."
Yeah no, so I need a time machine to skip to Friday morning (yes, Friday morning, because Europe...)
Lekker meesie
I agree
This is my thought every week but for 2pm on Friday afternoon (Aussie critter here)
I rewatched a highlight video today that made me realized that when Beau and Caleb read Lucien's "book", they read the journal that documented when the city fell. The journal author wrote about how The Philosophers, Dreamers, abandon them and took the whole ward with them. Which seems to confirm the Nien theory about how the Eye of Nine were the cause of Aeor city fell from the sky.
This episode had EVERYTHING?? Sir....you must wait till next episode where we might FINALLY get lesbian date time AND ninja cats! (Fingers crossed)
Fingers crossed

Matt fucking carried it this episode, so many amazing performances all very diff from one another.
This might be the first episode in quite a while that i rewatch on monday after i watched it live lol.
I love during their dream, Marisha was writing furiously and Liam was just 0-0
Travis trying SOOO HARD not to overanalyse the ring-giving XD I'm dead!
Matt Mercer is incredible. It is known. But every so often he’ll do something that really reminds you just how incredible he truly is...and that Somnovum dream was no exception. I got chills, and they were most definitely multiplying.
It is known.
Why Matt gotta make those scary noises?!
In his own words "because it's fun." So yeah...
In retrospect
Halas with the powers of Lucien. Oh my God
I mean when travis/Ford said the flames thing I just thought “and your not even resistant to it anymore”😂
I love Travis's face after he gives Laura the ring.
Yasha:. Exchanges Magician's Judge for Holy Avenger
Next battle:. Deciding to be one of the three party groups to go inside inside a Wizard's magical amulet.
Awwww you left out the ninja cats and Yasha’s dream
Wait, ninja cats?! Okay, now I got to watch this again. Cuz I missed that
And Beau receiving justice with Zeenoth's corruption being exposed. Of all the things, I was hoping that THIS would be included, too.
@@jasminemiller7485 it was 28 minutes before the end of the last VOD
Out of the pair, I am mostly scared for Caleb for the next episode. Knowing Beau, she's immediately gonna be like "Hell no" and (hopefully) peace out of there with her middle fingers in their faces. Caleb on the other hand, the guy's not gullible but I feel like he's gonna be at a full on war with himself. He knows not to trust this entity, but at the same time this is a chance to get his family back but also at the same that will mean losing his found family.
Worse case scenario, I'm imagining, right now, Beau says no, she wakes up, but she is punished with some psychic damage. Caleb meanwhile is gonna have a hard time giving the Somnovem, an answer and that's gonna cause he to get trapped, that the Nien's gonna find him still asleep his room only for some reason, but they can't seem to wake him up.
The camera following Travis after the 'additional footsteps' cracked me up:) thank you @Nico
Matt putting in the extra work, doing the voice acting and the after effects all in one!
i cant wait until Thursday to c if the book worms will get to talk to the eyes and if yasha gets to wield a holy avenger cause a path of the zealot aasimar should be close enough to wield it in that campaign.
This feels so much like the the calm before the storm a the end of an RPG. Like, they're only level 14 and I assume they're going to play the campaign to level 20 like the first one, but it feels like "end-game content."
Multiple plot threads coming together, revisiting allies for what feels like one-last time, highly raised stakes, being gifted/discovering epic magical weapons, etc.
They said in the past that they wont play till 20 if everyone is satisfied with the story ending earlier. Although with everything yet to be done I wouldn't be surprised if they got to tier 4 at least.
They fight Lucien at Lvl 14, aeor sucks him into the ward, the nein thinks it’s over, continue to lvl 20, city returns with Lucien at the helm?
@@VonSpicyWiener a possibility, for sure, but with the party getting a way to plane shift after the TT if they succeed, I think it more likely the nein pursue Lucien into the Astral Sea to make sure he and the city never come back to Exandria.
Matt was literally throwing his voice. So talented.
I forgot about the hilarity of Fjord and the ring of fire resistance and made the mistake of drinking while watching. "...and swallow it." now I have soda in my sinuses...
During the scene in question you can see Liam is totally entranced. I can't tell if Marisha is deep in thought or trying not to laugh during such a serious moment.
Oh man the editing on the “Whatwhat??” Made me snort so hard 😂😂
I've never heard him so a multi voice impression before, that's so cool!!!
This episode brought a lot of nice comfort after the horrible experiences in the north. Also Yussa is 100% a gold dragon. After his crazy head tilt I can't be convinced otherwise.
A gold dragon wouldn't get caught in a trap for mages. Dragons are no silly creatures, it would bring the whole thing down instead.
@@manUNITED986 I don't think being a gold dragon stops them from being able to be trapped. Especially inside a powerful arcane relic containing pocket dimensions created by a powerful and old mage. But who knows, maybe he's silver lol
@@TFconfused No mage in the entirety of the planet will meet the strength of even an adult dragon. Plus we know for a fact Yussa is also a caster, if he was a dragon rest assured Halas would give him the exit himself cause ain't no one fucking with a dragon that's a caster. If M9 can find the exit, you can bet so can a dragon, no matter the colour variation. (maybe not white)

Yeah, they all laughed about that ring, but Travis was the one with the last laugh in the end. (Ep. 139-140).
Matt's performance completely *blew me away.*
Of course I already knew he was a talented son of a b*tch, but DAMN. ♥👁
It totally unnerved me, but I keep wanna rewatch it because I can barely believe how cool it is =p
Sam Riegel is a TROLL.
This episode really did have everything. It was awesome to see the Nein get hooked up so well after the fiasco with the Tombtakers. And Liam hitting a DOUBLE NAT 20!?!?
There is a mad image, way in the back of my mind, of Beau and Yasha having a bedroom boxing match before they finally get it on next week...with Yasha verbally dominating Beau the whole time, the way she did that fight pit champion a few months ago. This AFTER they beat up some ninjas. :D
Holy shit Matthew can make a perfect echo O_o
8:41 laura hits a home run in about thirty seconds
Matt (10:34): You've had a night of rest
Me: They've had one, yes...
Damn. It's almost like voice acting is his job!
Could you imagine the echoing reactions if Sam would've passed his save x'D
10:25 my personal dream rewatch button
How do I “thumbs up” this more than once?
I always thought Keema taking the Magicians Judge would kind of change the dynamic of that marriage.
I was losing my shit waiting for Kima and then seeing Kima. I'm not saying I'm a simp for Kima... But I'm not not saying that either.
We are all simps for a lesbian with a cool sword
Whole episode could be titled "Matt talks about shit."
Will Wheaton says you’re welcome
How dare you not include Yasha and Cadeucus’ Dreams!
Laudna needs to meet the somnovem. They seem to have a lot to talk about. ;)
Hopefully jester might see her mom soon and hopefully talk about fjord
Whenever I watch that scene, I never watch it so it's like I'm Beau or Caleb and I'm actually listening to it
Good thing Fjord’s past his sword-eating phase. Kim’s would have killed him!
I called it... they didn't even have read more of the book but I called it...
To sum up from a previous post, Caleb and Beau are gaining some sort of power, like in UnDeadwood and the characters gaining the Huxster trait. This 2nd dream will undoubtedly mean that there are now 2 eyes on each of them, and showing this influx of power from the Somnovem.
Now, where will this go? I postulate, that they're going to gain powers from these beings, and may slowly give in to the madness it entails. The first to fall in my mind would be Caleb, as he so desperately wants to change the past, and could gain such a power if he gives in. Beau and the rest of the Nein will stone wall him, as they were tasked to do if it hit the fan with Halas. My biggest remaining question is this: what powers can these Somnovem give? This question I cannot entertain answers for, besides them goading Caleb to embrace them with the ability to change the past. I think we've hit the end game folks, and we gotta see how dip this abyss goes.
Here's the thing, though: they had received no dreams on the mountain. Why didn't they? And why only AFTER they left did they get this dream?
Also, unlike last time, we got no reveal of new eyes on their bodies because the episode ended right there. Could've been for narrative cliffhanger tension, but we literally have no idea. What if they still need to read the book to unlock potential power and this dream was meant to beckon them to "come home" so they could do so? A means of temptation.
I also do not think they'd be going through madness. Vess did not and she had nine eyes, yet retained her free will. And Lucien also has free will, but he's just embracing the Somnovem's gifts and is all too eager to free them while at the same time he also wants to be a part of it, and I don't think he realizes that he's just a pawn. He's going to be assimilated into the city and he doesn't even know it.
So I highly doubt that the Empire Kids, IF they ended up with more eyes, will lose their agency even further. And they may not even be given powers, just more brands. And even if they ended up with power... they sure as hell are not going to use them to free the Somnovem. They want to stop the city's return; the Nein are all in agreement about that.
Also, Caleb's an idiot. Changing the past, even just one thing, could irreparably destroy everyone else's future. The Nein wouldn't be where they are if **Caleb** didn't exist. You can't say the same thing if he's still "Bren".
@@AdamEspersona see, Vess was crazy, look back at when they asked her body the 5 questions, the reason why she showed sanity is because she was playing a much longer game or didn't have as much info/ wasn't chosen by the Somnovem as Lucien is, and is still trying to figure out how to bring the city back to life, that's why she's excavating. And there will almost certainly be 2 eyes, because there were 2 eyes in the dreams (and the 2 eyes aren't because they were together, remember that they didn't see each other in the 1st dream they had). Now, Liam has admitted in a Talks Machina that he needs Beau to stop him from giving in to the power, that he was glad that it was those 2. This means that Caleb is vulnerable to giving in, at least with how Liam is playing the character. And Caleb does not care about the Butterfly Effect, he's not one to see what consequences there would be beforehand, that's what the Nein are for. But, I will reaffirm, I am postulating what may come, and the only way to be certain is to see it all unfold, so we'll see.
@@overlord4663 I still have a bit of doubt because why did they not dream the following night on the mountain? That's what is confusing. If they were going to have eyes every time they rested and dreamed, why did they get none on that night before leaving Eiselcross? And I remember that they were kept separate. But it's because the episode ended immediately on that cliffhanger that I'm not as convinced as others are. I won't be until this Thursday proves otherwise.
Also, the difference between Vess and Lucien and the Empire Kids? The Kids want no part in being the Nonagon. That alone may be what helps the Empire Kids keep their free will. Now, Caleb will definitely be tempted, but he's also not as obsessed as he once was. And he knows that Beau, his Empire Sister, is going to help keep him in line, and he'll do the same for her.
Since Beau referred to the Somnovum and the city in the Astral Sea as an abomination against life I’ve been desperately hoping she’s decided to refrain from using the eyes in any way. But I would also absolutely love a moment with any of the Nein reminding her that they love her as the person she is and don’t want to lose that person to a dreaming alien hive mind!
@@bigjedimullet I think, if she were given unusual power, she'd rather use it to her advantage to STOP the Somnovem. Or...she'd outright refuse to use it because she'd rather fight with her own strength and that of her found family. Either way, she wouldn't succumb to the Somnovem's beckoning because she knows what she wants and has a future ahead of her.
Heh, kinda funny how that ring actually came in handy...
6:57 Kima making way more sense than she intended
Matt's creepiest scene.. Until Cognouza
1:11 I can't help but noticing Taliesin's shirt that says: Zuhause liegt im Herzen. Which is german and means: Home lies in my hearth.
I actually stayed up for the stream this time
This ep was awesome
Ok, clearly I'm missing something. What was Liam referencing with the title line? "This episode had everything!"?
It is a phrase commonly said by Bill Hader's recurring character of Stefon on Saturday Night Live as he describes New York's "hottest clubs" then proceeds to list lots of crazy things
Also 0:48 Marisha has an amazing idea. Gem’s of imprisonment exist. And could be used against Lucien

Wait, what, fjord is surprisingly not proficient in persuasion. Huh.
what? a highlight without Sam's ad antics? i feel cheated ^^
So...why not do to Lucien what happened to Halas?
Is that a beholder at the end?
I kinda feel bad for Halas, stuck in that crystal
eh, he only cares about himself, atleast thats what all the evidence shows. he had enough power to do alot of good yet he used it all for himself it seems
@@thomasmusgrave7595 that’s not that terrible though :/. I mean if someone bought all the chips and the store and didn’t share it’s not that big of a deal since (a)it’s theirs now, and (b) it’s just chips
@@naatkeey It's more like if someone had the means to end world hunger and instead bought all of the food for themselves before letting it rot in a vault. Halas is a shithead at best and truly evil at worst.
@@Jollygreengiant144 I wouldn’t say choosing not to help people is evil😑. Selfish definitely, and asshole probably, but not evil. Also the main reason why the Nein think he’s evil is because he was an necrotic archmage who tried to become immortal through dark means, and they also got scared by the ASTRAL FREAKIN DREADNAUGHT chained to his home(where they almost died bc they were practically trespassing)
I believe Halas is quite evil. We saw this mad pocket dimension dungeon intentely trying to kill anyone. Besides, his improsioning creatures in an awful way, using traps which can kill someone outright, his attempting to possess creatures...
Also, there are some implications that he might have a garden for meat.
So yeah, as much as the "being left alone" scenario is relatable, his means are not in my point of view.
mf's think THIS was Matt's scariest scene 😳 137 🥵🥵🥵🥵 has fucking Nothing
Yasha gave up dispel magic per attack for a magic item which only really benefits fjord.
Sam used his luck to combat Laura's meta gaming. How fitting
I.........I just still dont think Molly is in there, I think they are looking at lucien in totally the wrong way, the way I see it, Molly was just a fragment of Luciens personality. He isnt a separate person, are they just going to peel away the parts of lucien that they dont like until they get something resembling Molly? Seems kinda immoral
They keep ignoring that Lucien is the original. Molly was a fake/small fragment. Trying to bring Molly back is a bit of a dick move(even tho Lucien is an asshole).
I agree with you but also disagree with you.
Lucien was the original, and his twisted nature is being a product of his upbringing - he eluded he did not have a very good childhood - which is why the "Molly" moments are so small.
However, he also stated his SOUL got split up into multiple of parts, and one of them stayed behind in the body. THAT was Molymauk. And that's where I disagree with you: yes, "Molly" started out as just a broken fragmented soul, but he _grew_ into his own being. He's similar to Lucien because he was once a part of him, but now, I really think that lost fragmented turned into his own soul, completely seperate of Lucien. Its hard to explain, but I don't think they're going to get Molly out of Lucien; not because they're not accepting him as a whole and are being immoral, but because they jusy need to kill Lucien and Resurrect MOLLYMAUK TEALEAF.
Molly had his own morals, his own code of conduct, his own view and outlook on the world that completely contradicts Lucien's.
@@cussundriakneal9904 I just cant see it working
Propably what they would do, but the m9 havent been blinding bastions of good either, hell veth was ready to make the war worse just to get her body back.
I do believe however that moly is in there, matt has been teasing subcontious little actions of lucien that say moly might be on the passenger's seat.
Got a feeling the most we'll see is Molly taking the reins at a pivotal moment. Matt will give them that payoff but make it bittersweet.
Yasha is rolling wrong with this blade everytime x.x she is rolling 1 d6 instead of 2d10s...
Doesn't Campaign 2 take place a hundred years later or something? Why does Kima sound like she hasn't aged a day?
It only takes place about 20 years or so later!
@@NicoNeilson Really? I thought I read somewhere that it was a century.
@@garrettcarter5622 nope nico’s right it’s only 20 years. I’m sure it’s on the wiki somewhere
@@garrettcarter5622 There’s a slight chance the year may have been misquoted one or two times, but this (it not having been ‘that’ long) is part of the reason they kept asking about the Tal’Dorei council for a while.
Sam's out of character metagaming and trolling lately has gone from a funny gag that didn't really affect anything major to an annoying pattern of behavior that is making Veth a less enjoyable character and sets a bad example for other dnd players who might try to emulate him. He isn't behaving with any form of consistency and most of it has no basis in the roleplay. It's just trolling for the sake of trolling, and it was maybe funny the very first time he did the joke messing with Beau and Yasha's date, but it got old within that one episode, and now with the halfling luck hypocrisy it's just not fun to watch. I don't know why he's chosen to do this, because I used to admire how consistent and in-character his roleplay was. But now he's doing the opposite, seemingly just for the sake of some meta jokes that aren't very funny, and it's a lot less fun to watch him play this way.
This is just a game. This group of friends have been generous enough to share that game with us.
You're more than welcome to stop watching.
@@whoanellynelnel3874 Of course it’s just a game. It’s also a show I quite enjoy watching. If they want to create something for an audience, they should be aware of the things they do. If they wanted a home game, they’d still be playing a home game, and Sam’s recent behavior wouldn’t be acceptable in most normal games of dnd anyway, as they’ve said on talks machina. It isn’t a big deal, just something annoying that Sam has recently started doing that no dnd player should do. Someone around him just needs to tell him that he’s being a hypocrite about his own self-imposed rules, he’s breaking character, and it isn’t funny or fun to watch. He’s usually a better player than this, and he should be able to fix it. It isn’t worth quitting the show over, which is why I’m here commenting about it instead of taking my toys and going home and never watching the show again just because Sam is doing something more annoying than usual.
If Sam's gameplay is too much *for his friends* I'm certain they will say something to him.
Tbh the way I see it, Veth has a high intelligence, she can see what's up. And she's a troll just like Sam. The only meta I can see happening is in his dialogue, not the actions leading Veth into the situation.
@@whoanellynelnel3874 They've already expressed during the tapings when he's done it that he's being a dick and an asshole, and said on Talks Machina that he's metagaming and that his behavior would not be acceptable normally and they're just letting him do it because they think it's funny. They said if it became a problem, they'd talk to him about it and he'd stop, and what I'm saying is that it has reached the point where someone needs to have that conversation with him, because it has become a problem and is making the show and his character less enjoyable.
