I have always loved this song. I just came here to listen to it again. But then I realized how brilliantly this video is done! Bob starts of well shaved, well groomed, properly dressed with a relaxed facial expression. But the further he gets into the song the more careless, carefree, dissheveled he becomes, more passionate, bordering to crazy even. Genious! It's the little things: a look here, a raised eyebrow there, a shrugging shoulder, the laughing of the man on the left with the huge gap between his teeth, the timing of the dancers... Magnificent! I keep watching the video over and over again and not just for the song/the singing/the music itself, but the whole video is a masterpiece!
The video further clarifies the point of the song - disappointed about stolen donations (Live Aid) trying to convince himself that he doesn't care... really great song ❤

They were trying to come up with a simple defining visual hook like Bob Dylan’s placards in “Subterranean Homesick Blues” but didn’t want to just use that outright. Someone pointed out his reputation for being a bit of “a scruffy git” and the idea grew out of that.
I am German and bow to Bob Geldof, Sinéad O'Conner, the Pogues and all other Irish musicians. Especially the Dubliners, who have been with me all my life and gave me an escape to German folk music. I listened to this song to infinity and back when it first came out. Thank you, Mr. Geldorf!
To me, this song is a very humane expression of freedom, going in the direction of "nothing left to lose" however not far from a kind of insanity. It has accompanied me in my last 30 years of life and it always brought me courage and energy in my darkest moments. Thank you, Bob Geldof!
