    One of the best matches I've ever seen from Gaultier. Brilliant strategy and poise and against the most challenging possible opponent right now. It's astonishing to see a 32 year old that went pro 16 years ago and was world Number 1 back in 2009 actually take a match against a younger and consistently ascendant Elshorbagy here in 2015. Just when it would seem like Gaultier might be struggling to stay on top, he proves he can still possibly be the best player in the world. Amazing work (and a makes us older guys feel like maybe we're not so used up after all).

    The intensity on that court was electrifying, Greg answered the mental warfare with downright aggression, crazy to see at times, it sort of looked like a fight.
    I'm so happy for him, that's a career changing victory, he needed that so badly.
    It would be so sad to see him go without a world title, this year he has a chance.

      +Carlos Eliezer Hernandez Pintor Yes, interesting change of pace, mental warfare and good accuracy. Watch it again on mute if you can though, that game was a masterpiece ruined by giggles and inept comments from 2 school girls.

    I don't think Gaultier was helping Elshorbagy up at 6:10...I think he was looking for the ball!

      +Travis JLM I think that's true lol! Elshorbagy puts his hand out and Gaultier is avoiding it and looking behind him for the ball rofl.

    change of pace, thats what you do with strong fast hard hitting oponents, yallah little general!

    • @nocontrol06
      @nocontrol06 9 лет назад

      +GFMRLL ok so what is the best tactic for a hard hitting player like myself to use against a player with slower pace?

    • @gnfcom
      @gnfcom 9 лет назад +2

      +nocontrol06 you need to adapt to your oponents weaknesses and hit him there, in the case of this match, gaultier needed to change pace to neutralize shorbagys relentless pace, thats the weakness of most players like him

    • @conanthanoz19
      @conanthanoz19 9 лет назад

      +nocontrol06 My advice - don't spend too may hits in just one corner unless you've definitively identified that corner as being a weaker area for your opponent's retrieval. Pick two corners to focus on and vary it back and forth until you've gotten a shot deep in either one, then switch. It could be two diagonals, it could be to back corners, or two front corners. Just find out which corners unsettle your opponent's swing and footwork the most, then repeat over and over again. Sometimes it doesn't even matter if your opponent spots the pattern - once they notice how the pattern is wearing down their endurance and ruining their shot quality, many will just give up.
      The reason I suggest this particular strategy, is that players that hit with a slow lob pace are able to "reset" the rally easily, allowing them to dictate where you run and possibly keep you on the defensive. By having your own specific agenda to move the opponent around, it might not make them scramble initially, but after 3 hits or so they'll struggle and you'll have control of the T.
      Also, most slow-hitters tend to lob a lot. Do not take the bait and hit a low drop off of those. Instead, hold your shot as long as possible if you volley it, and then be prepared to hit deep into the back corners, either straight or cross.
