My direct relatives (family) have one Telas bought 7 years ago, and 1 BYD bought 1 year ago, and the one said it was a regret having bought too early a Tesla.
The advanced cruise control and lane-keeping features of my Honda are useless. However, if you need to replace a windshield, it costs $1700. My front lane-keeping camera has started producing random errors on the dashboard display. The dealer quoted $1200 to replace the camera plus $450 to calibrate it. There is no way to disable lane-keeping even though I don't use it. I'm forced to live with random error lights on the dashboard display or pay for a feature that doesn't work (again).
Telsa's auto pilot is getting better but not flawless. Even though in 90% of situations it does well specific common ones like curbs or just very unique situations it's never had before can cause issues. So even with this technology it's best to air on the side of caution and be ready to take over.
I have driven Freightliner cascadia's with almost similar technology and I'm telling you from experience they suck. If anything when a car cuts you off even though you have a lot of distance in front of you it breaks very aggressively for no reason.
I'm 44 years old. I live in NYC and recently got my driver's license after 15 years of not driving a car since I lived in Ohio. I rented my first car since 2008 and I was so overwhelmed with all of the tech inside. I never used GPS. I never used a dashboard touchscreen. I consider myself a tech savvy guy, but I was still overwhelmed. I mean, I didn't even know how to unlock the doors and start the engine because the car was keyless 😅
Disappointed in the lack of research for this video. Most vehicles have a single computer with multiple cores calculating variables and receiving data from multiple sensors just like a home computer would have. There aren’t 50 computers in a car, that would be way too expensive to build. Rather there is one computer (sometimes two) calculating in parallel the input from sensors from all over the car. So communication is inside and not in between different computers. Overall it’s also outdated info.
I think they are talking about the micro controllers. They are like little computers, but I don't think there would be 50 of them in a car, but there could be. Tesla has one computer, that what your probably thinking of. Most legacy car makers still have complicated systems with multiple big computer systems but are slowly transitioning over to just one main computer. Like in a new bmw they said their upcoming "nueve klasse" of cars will have one main computer system instead of one for each system like one for abs, one for traction control, ect.
Media bias, that's why. You don't need to like Tesla to appreciate the products. The Autopilot tech is awesome and works on literally any road. Doesn't need to be premapped.
And that’s all nice but I said back some night and watch Rex on RUclips‘s and let me tell ya. The average Joe is also a threat when it comes to driving so you can argue assisted driving but some people out there they shouldn’t even be driving. To argue that assisted driving is a problem. Well the average driver is a problem as well.
Great, BUT how much money does it cost to fix these sensors if damaged or if they break??? I believe a new car designed as a retro car of the 60’s complete with roll down windows WOULD be a GOOD seller; do you?
5:05 → no. Lidar is not "exponentially" faster than radar. It is in fact *linearly* faster, as a function of distance. Don't get me wrong, it's incredibly faster but it's not exponential!
This is why I’m keeping my old cars. 🚘💭 “Whoops. I thought you were outside your lane so I turned the wheel. Oh no I now detected lift off as we fly off a cliff. Please update software if you survive”. Also don’t need a backseat driver when I paid tens of thousands of dollars. That’s enough incentive not to crash.
This video report is very shallow and provides nothing of substance in terms of insight into how these systems work than any other similar video would have done 7 or so years ago. If you are reading this and have driven any car made in the last 5 years, or any car with any kind of autonomy in the last 10 years, don't bother wasting 6 minutes of your life and go watch an AI Driver or Sandy Munro car teardown video instead.
Interesting video. I have ProPilot Assist in my 23 Rogue. It's very helpful in keeping me in lane--especially on unfamiliar roads at night--and doing quick reaches to passenger or back seat. It requires your continued attention and will alert and finally stop you if it doesn't sense hands firmly on the wheel beyond a minute or so. It's the best of all worlds to me, I've seen too many videos of Tesla driver and passengers asleep as they drive down the highway--some with fatal consequences.
Assuming you're talking about 0:44 no the car isn't going to brake like that in a normal circumstance, that test activated the automatic emergency braking system which only activates if the car detects you're actually about to hit something which causes it to slam on the brakes like that.
In India yes. We have no rules. We don’t have the rule to stop 2m behind the other vehicle, no lane discipline, no stop sign rules nothing. We’re crazy😂😂
@noneofyourbusiness5326 Yep, that is true, but the only reason why I don't like the system is cuz. I can only see in one eye, and I have to move my head and look around. Unlike somebody that has 2 good eyes, that can take a look at at a glance. The system will be beeping like crazy. Unlike someone that had good eye, they won't be since you're looking at a glance.

are people seriously getting that lazy that they don't even wanna steer or change gears or even focus on the road!? I feel like if you are wanting to get a car with these features you shouldn't be driving.
Watching this makes me more than a little sad. People USED to be competent enough to drive a vehicle unassisted, but apparently we (as a society) can no longer do so. On a different note, that old-looking young guy in the tight beige slacks and a too-tight black t-shirt has been through a LOT in his short life. He proudly wears his trauma and childhood abuse all over his body. I really feel for the guy. 😢
Lane detection makes me a better fighter, not a better driver. Battling lane assist while driving round a curve is a darn right danger. I did this in a Florida rental, it was diabolical. It doesn’t do perfect curves, it does a series of straight lines. How bad a driver are you to need to keep a car in its lanes? Useless technology. Nothing to celebrate.
I've been driving a stick for 2 plus decades with none of this tech stuff on, still no fender bender. I don't want them. All this tech stuff only makes you a bad driver. Yeah, you are a good driver when they work properly...until they don't!

Then you were too close to begin with and tailgating driver behind would be at fault for colliding into the car in front that was abruptly braking
