if I buy a candy do I own it after I ate it? No. When I was buying it I knew that the product is "borrowed" and will "expire". Buy does not imply own. You did agree to the terms and licence. If you do not like it, do not agree to that. If you want to do more, advocate and inform people on what they are doing. But do not use such stupid arguments.

    • @ChocoHasFUN
      @ChocoHasFUN 4 месяца назад +1

@@mikcu7531 If you buy food, the company/store can't steal it back from you. You own the food, until life itself decides it's no longer good to consume or has been consumed. You buy a movie/game/"offline" service online with DRM and the service shuts down, you can't view the contents of the movie/service nor download or even play the game in some cases because it needs authentication with a server that no longer exists, even if all the data literally exists on your own computer.
Food has an organic limit that can be mitigated to an extent. Digital media, with DRM, has an arbitrary limit set by companies on how long it lasts. Both say you "buy" the product.
The argument you're using here is comparing apples to oranges. Food will organically degrade/perish, such is life itself. Digital media meanwhile can be replicated and stored indefinitely without "using it up". But DRM allows companies to bullshit people into losing access to content or "offline" services that was paid for because "there's a license" arbitrarily set in place.
Robbing a store means the store literally loses a sale as it's one less product that they now have in store. Pirating a movie/game/"offline" service digitally does nothing as digital media can be infinitely replicated. The only thing the company loses is someone not paying for one reason or another, they don't even lose something physical! If buying isn't owning, then piracy isn't stealing. It's copyright infringement.
That said, some people rightfully need to pirate too!
Money, availability, living in authoritarian regimes. Live in Venezuela? Good luck buying anything as inflation is staggeringly high over there. Buying anything takes up a literal salary. Live in Russia? You don't have access to outside content at all. Live in Canada? Can't watch HBO MAX nor any of Universal's content. What do you even do at that point, not pirate and let companies steamroll you because you just so happen to live in a place they don't service? Not pirate and literally not be able to access anything or use the services that certain jobs require from you? Not pirate and let all the things you bought be turned to dust?
Thus is why the statement is not a stupid argument. These companies are just ass hats that won't change until a governing body does something... and even then they lobby against getting chased by the governments so sometimes changes can't even be effected then. And that's assuming the governing bodies are even going to listen to the people at all. No matter how you look at it, the statement still holds true under any amount of scrutiny.

I'm a Linux and windows user, we always hear a lot of windows bashing, for obvious reasons! but few RUclips channels ever talk about how these tech firms bash on about climate, saving the planet and E-waste, yet force, yes force laptop manufacturers to produce non-upgradable computers where the CPU, GPU, RAM and in many cases now the SSD's are all soldered to a single board. Then companies like apple and microsoft invent new OS versions that require more hardware requirements, meaning the end user bins a perfectly good working computer that cannot be recycled, cannot be upgraded and cannot be modified and if a component stops working, the entire motherboard has to be replaced and the old, binned in land fills. This in-fact creating E-waste, not preventing it, as these same tech companies advocate daily on MSM and social media. I don't care how slim a laptop is or how many fewer ports it has compared to 5 years ago, i care about future proofing, capability, battery efficiency and usability. Maybe I'm weird or, is it that we are all being funneled into creating E-waste so they have an argument against the customer buying into ecosystem in the first place, which is essentially mocking and demonising their very own customers?!!! food for thought!

I agree. Companies intentionally daring to just send still capable user hardware to the trash is not responsible nowadays and should raise more voices across governments. Microsoft can still focus on Windows 11, but there's hardware out there running Windows 10 well enough that it can easily last until 2030+. I'm only on "supported" hardware because I coincidentally got that for gaming, but even my outdated PC that still powers a i5 3470 from 2012 is still capable of playing most of my games and all of my software without a problem. If you're the company powering most user PCs across the globe you unfortunately have a certain responsibility.

Basically what I am seeing and this is just my opinion. They are wanting like dumb terminals in laptops and weak desktops and everything running in their cloud based systems and they have "full" control over like Chrome books. It's the same as soldiering all the components to a crappy little main board in the laptops so they can get to this faster. One key problem of this is the speed of the internet as our internet here in the United States except in a few areas is f'ing quite slow and expensive for what we have then some third world countries. Internet structure would have to have a serious revamp in hardware and cost. Remember this is just my opinion.

Batteries and disposable plastic everything is like vitamins to the eco system! We went from producing thousands of tons of batteries to millions of tons of batteries already! We have swapped from nasty materials like glass and metal which can be recycled to make the same grade of material, to plastic where we pretend to recycle it. We have banned and regulated to death natural gas which is being produced at our ever growing mountains of landfills, to a much more eco friendly windmills which uses countless amounts of oil to make and maintain. Why we are figuring out new ways with the help of disposable products to double our oil consumption year over year. We used to have nasty services like milk delivery in glass jars that were washed sterilize and reused. To the much more eco friendly of everyone driving to the grocery store and buying a plastic jug of milk. OH but don't feel guilty about it... cuz you are driving around in your disposable car with the 1 ton li-poly battery that we pretend we can recycle... well maybe some day right? Through the power of trash we have increased our waste output to heights only dreamed of 50 years ago. Exciting new technology in eco planned obsolescence will take us to new heights in eco friendly waste generating. Who knew the solution to saving the planet was to generate as much waste as possible, and of course, avoid any kind of cost effective solution? We sure didn't... but thank god for mega corps and government sock puppets.

" I see no reason today to ever go back." well if you're into their setup with all your apps then there wouldn't be frankly though the switch from Windows to Linux unfortunately is a LOT harder because there are FAR less applications written for Linux due to the lack of market share. Many of the apps I use heavily are Windows only OR Windows + Mac with no linux alternative from another author even. I've been looking for replacements to unlock us but there's a few I just cannot find a viable alternative.
When Linux finally can run Windows software without issue natively using emulators, it'll be a hard to miss option frankly. One of the apps we're tied to is OneNote and despite what people say, we've looked and tried alternatives but none are NEAR OneNote in functions and usability which is a shame. I've tried to find a way out of that one a few times.

"Stealthily installing a DLL that blocks you from changing the browser"
The method of installation sounds like a virus installation to me. Blocking the user from doing such a legitimate action also is nothing but malicious behavior. Possibly the "driver" is signed by Microsoft too, so then it follows that:
    a. Driver signing does not guarantee virus-free installations; and
    b. Microsoft deliberately installs a malicious virus on their users' computers.

I really like Mint, and would be on it now, if not for the fact that my CAD software is Windoze only. It will not run on Linux. I have tried them inside of WINE, but they are unstable, and crash without any warning etc, so I can't run them inside of WINE. They DO run just fine inside a VM under Mint, but - to me - running a Windoze VM inside Linux seems a bit of an odd thing to do. If you CAN'T run certain software except inside a VM under Linux, why not just use Windoze in the first place. I have asked the CAD software people if they ever plan to do Linux version, and the answer was "Never." As I use my CAD softwares just about every day, if I can't run them easily under Linux, then that is simply a deal-breaker, sorry. But I do like Mint for everything else it can do - a really excellent distro, and one that is easy to put people on, if all they ever used their Windoze machine for, is browsing the net, emails, and an office suite such as LibreOffice.

I understand. It's a bummer that games don't behave very well on Linux, though not by Linux's fault, as for the game makers, it makes very little business sense to invest in Linux. Also for those using software packs like the Adobe Suite or CAD, migration is next to impossible. You have no other option and I understand your predicament. For people like me who do not game and have been using free and open source software because it is sufficient for my use cases, switch to Linux is a no-brainer almost. Let's hope that Linux desktop has greater adoption and the software companies are forced by market demand to develop native applications on Linux, which were exclusive for Windows in the past 🙏. What I suggest you do however, is to keep a Windows machine dedicated to gaming and switch over to Linux on a separate machine for everything else that can be managed with free and open source software. This is assuming you have enough budget to go for another machine.

This changed with the release of Proton. Now more often than not I just install games through steam on Linux and they just work, including older games which won't just work out of the box on native Windows. If my system runs PERFECTLY fine without having TPM enabled it should NOT be a barrier of entry to install the OS so i am not accepting what you just said as an answer.
Microsoft dont care about a system's integrity, they never have. Else they would have fixed issues like Windows shitting itself every year or so because of failed Updates and because of legacy Code that is so old it is older than 99.9% of PCs currently in use. Plus, there is other ways to ensure a system's integrity that dont involve some arbitrary hardwareconstraint.
They dont care about your PC or mine or anyone watching this video, all they care about is profits. They literally try to force a software onto new PCs that records your every step only to be easily recalled at will by you, but more importantly THEM for marketing purposes (and malicious thirdparties) - i hope noone here actually believes "Recall" actually makes sure your recorded steps are being secured against intrusion or abuse - they claim it is secured against "Third Party" but what stops said Third Party from pretending they are you (by using your profilecredentials)?
They dont force TPM for securityreasons. Thats bs. Thats only incidental and a Strawman to distract the masses from whats actually going on:
The issue we are facing is Microsoft, likely in cooperation with hardware-manufacturers, trying to force obsolescence. But not, to be able to drop the legacy code, but only to be able to sell more licenses and more Hardware.

Wait a minute. I agree that MS does a lot of bad stuff, but I think some of your information is a bit misleading. MS doesn't force you to pay for Windows 10 after its official end of support. This subscription is targeted for enterprises who needs to run 10 longer for some computers in special applications, not for the home user. They had the same with Windows 7 and is it called ESU. You cannot expect a software to be supported forever for free. If you don't pay, you just won't receive any more security patches, but of course you can use your computer as before.
About the driver, I'm not sure, but Win still lets you change your default browser, but only through the official way. The driver prevents other software to automatically change your browser without your consent. Think of a malware that just installs a malicious browser and sets it as default. It might be just a misunderstood security feature. But it's a bad one that doesn't cure the root cause.
I'm saying that as a Windows and Linux IT professional that did the switch to Linux in 2006 who gets more angry at MS day by day.

Once you move to Linux and start using it for just a week, you can not really go back to windows. You don't really need to use the terminal for basic tasks. With the app center, linux can be as simple as android, but without telemetry. You install almost everything you need with a click, and also you don't need an account for that. Because now most of the things we do are in the browser, there is no real benefit to use one operating system. So, why not Linux? It's free, it's secure, it enables you to own your computer and your data. If you're into gaming, maybe dual boot and don't store any important information in the windows instalation, or learn to use wine to game in linux, or just use Steam and Heroic and 95% of your games will just work.

Why not use Linux? Hardware compatibility. Linux software is perfectly adequate for my needs. But my laptop uses a proprietary fan system and temperature monitors, that Linux doesn't interface with well. Furthermore, it uses a Hi-DPI display, and most distros ootb don't play nice with fractional scaling. GTK straight up doesn't support it natively without significant overhead. One would then say, "just get a different computer." Why would I throw away a fast Windows 11 laptop with a beautiful display that works really well, just so I can run Linux? My use case for Linux would be virtualization, but after 5 hours, I have to manually invoke my fan from firmware to prevent overheating. Most consumers would never know how to do this. Linux is great, but it is not for everyone just yet. I'm not saying Windows is better. But some hardware configurations are simply not supported. Just like running Windows on an Raspberry Pi is possible, but is not as good of an experience as Linux, due to hardware optimization. TL;DR: I think Linux is awesome. I'm writing this comment on an M1 Mac Mini running Fedora 39, and it is amazingly cool. But some hardware configurations, such as my x86 laptop simply do not run Linux as well as Windows.

@@grantschilb8019 I'm starting to see more of this.. the more modern the hardware, the less Linux will be able to play with it nicely because of proprietary parts like that. It's all intentional

@@iplyrunescape305 I think it kinda goes both ways. Manufacturers are definitely building systems in such a way where the customer has no direct control over hardware components, which for the life of me, I cannot understand (except with Apple, its their selling point). However, due to how well Linux works on legacy hardware, there has definitely been some reluctance to develop proper high DPI support. Hardware support definitely is the most prevalent issue. At least workarounds for high DPI exist in software.

Speaking as someone who uses Linux and hates Windows 11: Paying $61 per device to extend my Windows 10 licenses, considering *_they're almost a decade old and I paid nothing for feature updates that whole time,_* is actually a pretty great deal.

@@OKOKOKOKOKOKOK-zn2fy : If I were running a university computer system with thousands of computers, I would leverage volume licensing to upgrade to the latest supported version of Windows for a fraction of the retail price, because Windows is backed by a single supplier who is on the hook to make sure problems get fixed. The only version of Linux comparable to that is RHEL, which is also viable, but you have to pay an ongoing subscription for RHEL too, because guess what? Software developers like me don't work for free.

@@OKOKOKOKOKOKOK-zn2fy Microsoft determines the pricing for ESU based on several factors, including the cost of maintaining and delivering security updates, the value provided to customers, and market demand. The pricing structure is designed to encourage customers to transition to newer, supported platforms while still providing a temporary solution for those who need to continue using older systems and to incentivize users to upgrade to Windows 11 or other supported systems. This approach helps Microsoft manage the resources required to support legacy systems and ensures that customers receive critical security updates during the transition period.
