- Fitting an X Engineering X Deflect Anti Roll Bar to our 110 defender Beryl our Overland camper...
Fitting the anti roll bar is straight forward but we did have some issues with our custom built rear axle so will see how this anti roll bar with our set up..

Love how you leave the little mistakes in. As someone who does everything on their own too full appreciate some of the difficulties you have. Great job.

Hi...they really do make a difference and its great being able to switch them off when you are off roading.
Clumsiness was frustrating, but, when there it looks really good. Hope it works.
Hi SF017S...we keep all the episodes real so all the clumsiness is in as it is in real life..we could edit it out and make it look like everything is dead easy and the X engineering anti rollbar does look good and i hope it does work...regards Paul

Surely a halfshaft is designed NOT to twist, exactly the opposite of an anti roll bar. That kit looks very well engineered otherwise, certainly strong enough for the stiffness of the bar to rip out the tinny little plates it's bolted to. What a shame they didn't make a bespoke shaft out of spring steel, or even use a torsion bar from another vehicle...
I was sceptical at first when i saw the product with them not using a spring steel bar but it does work exceptionally well as an anti rollbar all i can say now i have one on each of my trucks
Just found this. The LR half shafts have a decent elasticity - look up Ascroft alxe shafts testing. You can see even a short shaft rear will do approx 30deg before permanent stretch. Plenty for rear anti-roll bar. Si of X-Eng who designed these wrote a blog post somewhere. I've been thinking about getting one for my LR so plenty of research... I have an X-Eng disc handbrake which is excellent.
As the axle links are offset on the upper bush end would turning them around not give you more clearance on the spring? So the axle link would lean back further at the top when viewed from the side?
I'd wonder about using a half shaft as an anti roll bar, sure anti roll bars are spring steel so it gives some movement and a half shaft isn't so is pretty much locking one side to the other, that's a big piece of steel compared to even a 130 anti roll bar. . 🤔
Hi andicog...i have already turned the tops of the knuckle bars round to increase the angle on them to give myself maximum clearance...and it did help a little and like you said it is a big chunk of metal compared to a standard anti roll bar but everyone i have spoken to who has one says that it really stiffens up the back end and helps cornering..so can't wait to get this out and try it..regards Paul
hello....very helpful video. I installed on my TD5 110 defender 2002....and hits the exhaust pipe. what 110 defender do you have ?
Hi there..glad you found the video useful my defender is a 300tdi i don't think there is much difference in the back box on a TD5 so can't see why it would be hitting it.
That truck can handle the extra weight easy!

Out of interest, as this uses a locking hub, if you re-lock the sway bar on uneven ground will it lock in an unlevel position or will it float until the sway bar ends are level before then locking in place?
I kinda fancy having a go at fabricating something like this for my Jimny ...but probably use a vacuum locking hub so it can be engaged & disengaged from the cab
Hi James..the way the sway bar is set up it should relock in the level position and i don't think it would be too hard to fabricate one for a jimny...regards Paul

Hi...its was actually a customers bike but it wasn't a lambretta it was one of the chinese copies...
Will the link bars fit on the inside of the brackets to clear the springs?
It looks good though. Like you I have always just deleted anti roll bars for off roaders. Its fine if you know how to drive, not so good if you dont know how to load and unliad springs on cornering, but Beryl is probably top heavy so will definitely benefit from this mod.

Hi Dicky O...glad you found the new channel and i hope you are enjoying the new content...you can't put the knuckle bars on the inside to clear the springs as the ball joints won't go on the bottom link which is unfortunate...and like you say having an anti roll bar delete is ok as long as you know how to drive...regards Paul
Think I'd just put a wee bend on the knuckle arms, keep it simple, no welding or drilling.
Hi Morgan mcpherson..bending the knuckle arms would be the simplest solution but the arms are roughly 15/16mm solid bar so without a fairly big hydraulic press you are not bending them and that is the one thing i don't have in the workshop...but i have sorted out a solution for the problem which will be on an update video..regards Paul
Could drill a hole closer to the anti roll bar that would clear I would flex it to see what happens or flip the drop links to the inside
Hi shropshire lad outdoors...i did think about redrilling the hole in the top of the anti roll bar to increase the angle to give more clearance but didn't do that and i have flipped the knuckle bars round to increas the angle as well but did come up with a solution that i think will work which will be on an update video..regards Paul

H Phil...the ball joints can't fit on the inside of the axle mounts as the ball joints are a taper fit and only go one way which is on the outside...regards Paul

Hi Chris...glad you found the new channel...you will have quite a bit of content to catch up on...the X engineering anti roll bar is a fantastic piece of kit..we did a 300 mile road test with it last week and it is pheunominal...the truck is completely different to drive with it on and this product nearly eliminates all the body roll in a truck the size of Beryl...will be doing an episode soon on it but can't recommend it enough..have fun fitting it!..regards Paul
@@All4Overlanddo you have a standard front anti roll bar fitted? Or does this rear one manage the body roll well enough on its own?
In the video you mentioned you're running a modified disco axle on the rear. Why is that? Did you buy it like that or was it a modification you chose to do yourself?
Interesting video, thanks. I looked at these when I first got my Pulse. I don't know much about engineering and I couldn't work out the potential consequences of fitting it so decided not to bother. If this is four times stiffer than the usual bar is that potentially four times more force going through the (weedy looking!) chassis mounts? I also thought it might lead to oversteer. The truck is at least 3.5t when loaded up for a long term trip and I decided that, for me, reliability had to trump offroad ability. Really interested in how you get on with it.
Hi Jonathan... this is like any modification that you do to a vehicle...if you make one thing stronger it will find the weaker point down the chain as we all know with landrovers when you start to modify them you are going to break something else...but i know people who run these on heavily ladened overland vehicles in excess of 3.5 T and they have no issues and they do long miles on the road plus some severe offroading as well with the same weight in the trucks...but will keep you posted as normal how we get on with it..regards Paul

Don’t need all that… much simpler solution and you can still keep the original arb and it’s doesn’t flip and you don’t have to get under it to lock or unlock it ….
Engineering is great but brain power works better every time is cheaper easier to fit and won’t cost you a fortune…

Hi Defender mods...everyone i know that has one of these X engineering anti roll bars fitted absolutely loves them....and are usually fitted on overland vehicles not offroaders as it gives you more flexibility on and off road...also they are much stiffer than a standard anti roll bar so offer more stability with heavily laden vehicles on the road...regards Paul
@@All4Overland I'm not surprised they are stiffer than a propper ARB seeing as they are not made of spring steel 🤔
Don't get me wrong, it's great bit of engineering but severely compromised as an ARB , having said that it's better than none at all and you have a spare half shaft in case you snap one 😁
Hi DirtDiggler...hadn't thought about it actually working as a spare half shaft carrier thats quite funny...but even though they are not made like a standard anti roll bar they definately work as one because everyone i know who has one fitted says they are absolutely fantastic but time will tell and you will see if i like it or not when we take it for a road test..regards Paul
@@All4Overland oh yes i can see they would work, no issues there 👍 especially compared to no ARB, it's just the non sprung steel part, a torsion bar is made to twist, a drive shaft is made not to.
As i said looks a nice bit of kit and deffo had a lot of thought put into it 🙂
it's one of the best mods you can do if your vehicle needs it
