Shining Force was one of the best games on the Genesis, and 28 years later it still feels fresh and modern. Bravo, Camelot. The Legacy of Great Intention, indeed.
@@costadelsoul Yes, plus the menu font is the exact same for Beyond the Beyond as this game. Yet Beyond the Beyond was not given love by gaming magazines back in the day, nor by many RPG fans, but it is a solid game from Camelot. The Golden Sun games also share the same type of blue box menu, and font for the words.
Do you know why it’s called that? The Legacy of Great Intention? Whose intention? Dark Sol didn’t have great intention. Evil intention, sure but great?
I grew such incredible memories with Shining Force that I played the PC version called Sega Smash Pack 2 which contains that game as well as Comix Zone, Kid Khameleon, that, even Sonic the Hedgehog 2 which is technically my first Sonic game ever game. Shining Force was my first ever RPG game from Genesis that has given me the chance to give it a shot after my years of Nintendo. Truly loved it and I think this is an underrated game that was almost overshadowed by the Final Fantasy games. I also played its sequel plus the sequel that follows the story of the original Shining Force called Shining Force Gaiden on Game Gear. Let us not forget it has its remake on Game Boy Advance called Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon which it is fine one, it is better than Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis for the Gameboy Advance. So yeah….Shining Force, best game series ever and it has still found in my thoughts forever.
This was the first _Shining_ game I got into back in '92 and it inspired my love of tactical RPGs. Especially ones like _Dragon Force_ for the Sega Saturn.
This was my introduction to strategy RPGs, and I still play it every so often, trying new team builds each time. Shining Force CD (on Sega CD) remains my favorite of the series, but my strongest memories fall with this game: the Battle of Alterone, the Circus Tent, and Shade Abbey remain distinct because of the near-desperation I felt the very first time, when I saw just how bad the situation really could be. Also: Arthur is best Knight. I always loved his "secret" ability, regardless of how long it took him to properly fill in his role. :)
This game helped me recruit so many of my Dungeons and Dragons players. We literally had an adventure party of 14 players.i had to turn people away and hold an extra game night for new players. Great game and thanks Shining Force
my First Strat RPG i ever played ..and the first one i ever went hardmode on ((without knowing it)) i just went from 1 battle to the next no grinding i still have the Sega and GBA versions of it still play them to this day and i will Defend the best Battle music is still is at 3:12:00
I was addicted to this adventure and would fall asleep with *Simone* only to awaken the next morning to continue my quest to save the world of *Rune* 🌌
Oh, yeah, this RPG. I have beaten it before, surprisingly even in the messed up Dreamcast port from Smash Pack with the Master System-like sound (it actually sounded good in this, to be honest). But, to be serious, this game is good, but it is pretty hard. Strategy is very important especially in boss fights. Graphically, this game is basic for a 16-bit game.
Happy New Year 2025 2u all everyone! I have a very sweet but sad story, I was born very late December 1992 32 years old now, and my sister was born in 2003 and she is now 20 as she and I loves classic retro games very much as we currently have a N64 SNES mod 2, and a Wii with GameCube 2in1 consoles that were very grateful proud of and have most games for! We had the Sega smash pack long ago that we liked very much both volumes I think and played Revenge of Shinobi, Sonic 12&3, Vector Man, Altered Beast, and this Shining Force, that we miss having sometimes, Then around 2014 where we met knew a high school mexican male friend that I went to school with that likes old fakes as well, gave us his old PS3 that was backwards compatible which was very awesome at the time being had mostly pac man Jak Daxter medal of honor crash for, then we had this Sega mega collections on PS3 that we so enjoyed the heck out of, and unfortunately three years ago, my sister made a bad mistake having drinks near by when she was talking to my friend knocked on over got into the PS3 which it never shut off anything, but it completely ruined reading discs no matter what we insert in, we took it back and fourth to the retro flea market guy we went to knew for years tried fixing it which still won't stay fixed as we just gave out on it, put it up somewhere and then ended up with other consoles that I didn't mind to have! I know anything is possible but I so miss having a PS3 backwards compatible and playing this Sega collection s game that I would just hate to trade sell it for anything same with sonic mega collection PS2!
Funny enough, the first time I ever played this game(and SEGA games as a whole) was on a PC disk for a SEGA collection that had other SEGA titles. I fell in love with it and spent hours trying to beat the game. I owe this game a LOT. It got me into fantasy, both novels, film and gaming. It got me into other similar titles like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. And it was that love of fantasy that got me into writing. However, I will admit that the combat system is a BIT annoying. Having that animation play over and over again every time one character attacks another is just so grating.

Huh, *_"Camelot"_* developed this game? (No wonder it's decent)
So that's why it has the same vibe as PSX RPG Game "Beyond the Beyond"

@@maxstone9999 Probably the party's. They weren't superheroes but they believed in what they were doing, tried their best, and ultimately won.

The nostalgia....time goes by so fast. I love this as a kid now that I have kids of my own time to take a stroll down memory lane.

When I was young I used to always play this on my PS3 and I miss the nostalgic times
I loved the character designs. I especially liked when it got outrageous.

As much as I love Shining Force II, this one is just as entertaining.
Also love that this is also on the Sega Genesis Mini!!
It is a great inclusion for that system.
The good memories
I was addicted to this adventure and would fall asleep with *Simone* only to awaken the next morning to continue my quest to save the world of *Rune* 🌌
This brings back good memories
Love that game!!
I played this on PC Windows 95 as part of Sega Smash Pack 2.
played this on a PC sega package. Loved it when I was younger.
Chills as I heard the opening music again
I played this on ps3 as part of sonic's ultimate genesis collection
Same exact way I played
I’m just starting on switch. Really dope.
I'm really enjoying this playthrough. Will you do the second game aswell at some point in the future?
Yup, I plan to do 2 and 3 at some point
Classic!!

In some ways, this game's audio reminds me of Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga's, especially the PSG text sound.
Are we talking the GBA original?
Makes sense. Both the GBA and the Genesis had psg hardware included for backwards compatibility.
@@NintendoComplete Bingo
@@Dorian_Scott Yep. GBA had PSG audio built in the system, as did the Mega Drive.
Promoted Zylo's OPness!
this is the 2nd best rpg series ive ever played, next to Phantasy Star
Nice video.
i believe its safe to say this is sega's answer to fire emblem
i love the furry characters in this my faves are the fox mage and deer healer
It is nice when games give you more than just humans to fill out your party.

You don't man in fights you just chicken into attacking from far.
I had it in my teens unfortunately never finished it
I noticed that there is some more added content in the GBA port. Any thoughts about covering them?
I might just do that. The GBA version was really well done.
Man I love this game but those levels where you gain nothing pissed me off so much. I wonder if it all evens out by the time you get to level 20?
HOW DO YOU FIND THE SWORD OF POWER??

SF1 is an all time classic, but SF2 was a huge upgrade for a sequel. SF2 was all round better. MGS2 -> MGS3 was something similar.
Why have Jogurt in any active party? He can't do anything.
Forget what i said. I didn't realize it was someone else with the Jogurt Ring...

I wish you would stop talking to everything.....
