  • Just in time for the holidays, Toys R Us is back! The toy store giant has reopened its doors after the chain closed its 800 stores across the country after filing for bankruptcy in 2018. Iconic mascot Jeffrey the Giraffe was there to spread cheer. The new flagship store is located in the American Dream Mall in New Jersey, and Victoria's Secret model Chanel Iman couldn’t wait to bring her daughters. CBS Mornings co-host Nate Burleson was also there with his family.

These stores were like heaven for kids. You could go in and find 100 things you wanted for Christmas every time. Best part was having a brother who would also get super hype and we'd run up to each other and eagerly share what we had jut found. "YOU GOTTA SEE THIS 😱". Ahhh... I miss those days when the biggest worry was which LEGO sets I was getting for Christmas and whether Santa really got my letter in time. I was lucky to get to go to Toys R Us though. Great stores. I just hope the business does well.

This almost makes me cry of happiness. This makes me so filled with pure joy. I'm an older Gen-Z, and a Toys R Us kid, and I live in and grew up in Colorado, and so whenever we would go to Toys R Us, the nearest one was about 45 minutes away, so we only went every so often. And I always remember getting so excited whenever my aunt or parents would tell me and my brother that we would be going to Toys R Us.
I still sort of remember the layout of it! I remember that I would get something Sonic The Hedgehog related (because I was obsessed with Sonic The Hedgehog) and my brother would pick either something Pokémon related or a LEGO set.. it was such a good time.
And this makes me so so happy to see that Toys R Us is reopening (even if it ends up being just this one flagship store), because a brand new generation of kids get to experience the magic and wonder of going to Toys R Us.

I fondly remember the UK TV ad during the 90s ("there's a magical place, we're on our way there"). I used to think the shop came alive during the night and dreamt of going on a midnight toy shopping spree with my parents. I really wanted to go into the Toys R Us close to where I live, but we only drove past it as there were other shops closer that sold toys. I did get to finally go into it as an adult not long before its bankruptcy to buy my nephew a birthday gift. That branch of Toys R Us infamously became a location of an illegal rave right after its closure. Not so magical as a grown-up. Fortunately, we do still have the oldest and biggest toy shop, Hamleys, and now the chain Smyths.

Good news for Toys R Us! They have gotten knocked & chose not to give up. Even in a country with high competition, there is a chance & hope... as long as you believe it exists. Add oil Toys R Us!

Instead of using the term "Add oil" or 加油, you can use "keep it up!", "let's go!" or "more power". ☺ - just a guy studying mandarin

I had one of the warehouse stores about an hour from me and an outlet store about 10 minutes from me…
I remember one birthday, literally just asking for money and then going to the warehouse store and I spent it all on Legos!.. lol
I also, remember being obsessed (still am) with Nintendo. So, one other particular birthday, I got money again.. well instead of going to the warehouse store, I went to the outlet store that was 10 minutes from me and I bought some Nintendo items and more Legos…
and if anyone asks as to what year that was, I remember there being an advertisement for the “Lego: Pirates Of The Caribbean, Video Game” inside the outlet store… and does anyone else remember the warehouse stores having Huge posters??…

The fatal mistake was opening up in every mall, every 10 mile radius, carrying baby's r us clothing store on their backs, and having bad management of it all.
Sad what happened to KayBee Toy Store also Kaybee Toy store was in every mall.
    I hope they bounce back.
Toys r' us is more than nostalgic to me.

It also didn't help that their prices tended to be ridiculously high compared to say... Walmart or Target. I remember going in there for a pack of trading cards to find that they were a full $5 a pack, when I can get them.reliably down the street for $4 at Walmart, and $3.50 at the retro game store around the corner. It just made sense over time to go elsewhere

@@wispthevulpix7857 they could get away with it if it was a TRU exclusive… but I agree, as a kid who was obsessed with Legos, I did see that their prices were a-bit higher than.. Walmart for example.. but, Y’know I still bought everything from TЯU..

They failed due to poor sales decisions, such as being slow in the online market compared to competition like Amazon. If they want to truly make a comeback they need to gain a foothold in that market.

Kids like walking around in a store looking at toys. Everyone likes that, id like to think. Yes online shopping exists but window shopping is so inspiring and fun even if you don't buy anything. Seeing it in person is not the same thing as seeing it online! Please let's keep this store alive!
