    • Law of reveresed effort: The harder you try, the harder you fall.
    • Brain Power/ Mental Energy: It decides how focussed you're when learning something (It's different from productivity which can be changed but everybody get some amount of Brain Power in a day). It passes faster when we wake up compared to later part of the day.
Q1. Which time is best for learning?
Q2. What to do to your distractions?
Q3. How to actively recall what you learnt?
Q4. What is feyman technique for learning?
Ans1. Morning after you wakeup(4 hours).
Ans2. Timebox them in afternoon where you're already tired.
Ans3. Make questions of what you learnt so you can see if you can answer them.
Ans4. Teach to someone else, identify gaps and study more.

    • capture the first 4-6 hours of your day doing something productive (start right after you wake up).
    • choose right tasks to work on.
    • Get rid of distractions.
    • Practice deliberate distraction (set a dedicated time aside in your day to use social media, timebox your distraction time).
    • Create artificial deadlines for your tasks.

Seeing social media , where a person studying for 12 hrs or 8 hrs made me insecure got me into negative loop hole. I started to doubt myself (the imposter syndrome ). This feeling of "flow state" or the "zone" always comes after getting over the learning curve in anything with consistent practice. I have experienced this with everything i have ever learned. When I was learning to skateboard it is very difficult to do any tricks. You spend a lot of time just trying to land one trick or even ride the board. Eventually, you will land it and then you keep doing it and land it more often. The more you try to land the trick the easier it becomes to do it again and before you know it you just can do it almost without thinking about it. This is how you get "good" at skateboarding (or anything really). The accumulation of this will result an arsenal of tricks you can do and apply them to different obstacles when you feel like it. The more you do the trick, the more it becomes second nature to you. Just like talking, walking, running etc.
This applies to everything including programming. An application, algorithms, any project can be thought of as a "trick" in skateboarding. You may complete the project, app, algorithm, etc.. but you still can't just do it every time without thinking about it. Do it again. Keep doing it.
Another thing.. This is very difficult to do when you are not interested and having fun. If it's not fun and interesting. Do something else for a bit.

  • @praisedare

I'm convinced in the power of active recall. I previously used to just write notes of all that I learnt, but on instrospection, I realized that simply looking at the answer constantly wasn't a good way to retain what I'd learnt, so I decides to start writing questions on paper. But writing questions on paper turned out to be quite a hassle, because it's impossible to edit or reorganize what you've already written on paper, so I got a flashcards app. My learning speed has shot up because of this. Whenever I finally understand even a slightly difficult topic, I sit down and formulate a question for that topic. The art of forming those questions themselves also helps to solidify what you've learnt as you have to translate your thoughts into something sensible that anyone can understand. So I'd recommend anyone who's trying to increase their learning productivity to get a flashcards app.
Thank you for the effort you out into making this video Sahil.

working smart + working hard. But know your limits. Start low and slowly increase. For me, I just did 90% of JavsScript basics on freecodecamp in a week(3 hours a day with two days break, aka 15 hours). Python basics took me 1.5 months, with almost the same amount of content studied. I learnt my technique while studying Python basics. Now I study fast for 3 hours, and pop off every day, except today.
Going to study, even though I do not feel like it.

@@MerkabaSS I take notes, and I start my notes down on line 42. So I can scroll down without seeing answers.
E.g Comments, then down 4 lines I show how to comment.
If I fail to know comments without looking at the answer in my notes, I stop and practice how to comment by writing comments/code a few times. If I know how to comment, I go to the next code.
Doing this, I can go through all of the basics in my notes, in 3 hours. From start to finish. But most days I spend 1 hour on notes, 2 hours studying new stuff or doing project tutorials, or coding challenge tutorials.
While studying new stuff, If the question is hard, I Just look up the answer immediately. Don't waste time trying to work it out. Just get the answer, put it in your notes, and you'll learn it as you practice. Zoom through the questions but write the code out three times for each answer as you go.
Helsinki university has a good python course. But I used w3 schools to zoom through Python. It's what I recommend for learning fast.
Last thing, If you are new to coding. You should learn html, Css, and Java Script first. This is where most Jobs are.

Very true... When we start doing something we are very much attentive and focussed, but as 2-3 hour passes we can't focus on that anymore... To recharge we must take a break to refill our energy and focus back again.... But if we don't do so we just lose time trying to focus but can't achieve anything..

So be organized. Interesting how all self-help is about organizing one's time in a certain way different than the other self-help guru's perfect solution. I used to study math at school by imitating how others did it. I didn't do well, got frustrated and became convinced that I'm not cut for it. Fast forward many years later, I started studying math at my own pace and focusing on my own weaknesses as opposed to a set curriculum -a one-size-fits-all solution- and I suddenly became good at math.

    1. Start rightaway when you wake up.
    - make a plan a night before and act on it next morning.
Choose right tasks to work on- which gives you challenge and helps in engagement
    2. Getting rid of distractions- turn off all notifications.
    - set a dedicated time for social apps
    3. Create artificial deadlines- Pomodoro technique is scam, set a deadline and work into it. This way you will learn faster within the time you decided. Practice Active Recall: make a conscious way of remembering what you learnt. Write the questions that you learnt the answers to. Later come back to these questions and recall the answers.
Another way is through Feynman Technique- Teach or write the topic > identify the gaps> fill these gaps by focusing on them.

In above points you mentioned "To Start Right Away After you wake up"
Usually when I wake up, I go exercising, but after watching this video a question arises in my head that should I exercise first or do my work first after waking up??
