China and Russia resolved their border issues, which were even more complicated and extensive than between China and India. The benefits of resolution far far outweighs the costs of compromise.

@@tsuikr No inheritance, the border was un-demarcated due to lack of formal treaty. Neither British did enforce on newly independent states to pursue any claim, Burma & Pakistan realigned Sino-border, some give & take. India decided to grab every inch. FYI, Brits didn't even control Arunachal Pradesh. After independent, India secretly sent troops to occupy it in 1949 or 50.

But also China's main challenge is the US right now. So China is willing to yield to India if India casts its support or at least clear neutrality on US China rivalry. India has border disputes with all its neighbors, not just China. In February 1951, three and a half years after the British have left the subcontinent, India invaded and annexed Tawang, South Tibet and occupied to this day. This land grab is solely Indian and has nothing to do with the British Raj. Tawang is the Sixth Dalai Lama's birthplace and home to a four hundred years old Tibetan monastery. In 1987 India make South Tibet a state and renamed it to the so called Arunachal Pradesh. AP is recognized as a disputed territory by the United Nation in 2009, making India the only country occupying two United Nation recognized disputed territories, the other being Kashmir.

About time for heaven's sake - it's been over 75 years with not much change in the status quo, esp in the last 50 or so years. The most common sense thing to do would be to settle the border dispute, both India and Pakistan keeping their portions of Kashmir, and have peace, free travel across their borders for people from both sides. Once bitten twice shy…..
Modi has a bigger heart then any leader.
He extended hand of friendship to NSherif in Porkistan(arriving unannounced at granddaughters wedding) and Xi (wuhan and Mallapuram meets) …..then what does he get in return…..Pulwama and Galwan……
Now you see his wrath in the most blissful way 😎

Pakistan needs to turn away from its long standing damaging association with the US, and also stop taking IMF loans which are a debt trap. This would include getting rid of most Western NGOs from the country as their presence has been counterproductive to the country. I would argue, that the MOST IMPORTANT country for Pakistan on this planet is India, Mother India, followed by others in the region. That is my dream.

Very good analytical and insightful discussion China and India both Asian leaders represent a very huge population are popular in their respective countries there are signs that the problems maybe easy to handle. If that is the situation there is bound to be a congenital atmosphere between them too and China persued Pakistan to review it's Kashmir policy. AMERICAN policy regarding Ukraine is tomoblise world Sampathy keep the supply of arms without sending the contingents The EUROPEAN security and prosperity are the core issues so this take it's time as is the case of Kashmir in Indo Pakistan

Professor Kanti Bajpai got India- Pakistan relation wrong,
    1. A major roadblock is Pakistan promoting terrorism vis a vis India (unlike Vietnam-China relation).
    2. Hostility with India is a prerequisite for Pakistani army to remain is power and justify its humongous share of defence budget when Pakistan is always going to IMF for bailout.
    3. Comparison of Pakistan with Bangladesh is not accurate as country need political and social stability which is absent in Pakistan. (Mob lynching of Sri Lankan textile manager in a blasphemy case )

Why should India be the one to initiate the normalisation of relationship with both Pakistan and China. Why should India be the only one to offer something to normalise both the relationship. All I can hear from this podcast is India should offer this, India should offer that why should we be the only one to offer. We are not dying to improve trade with Pakistan(and I won't deny the fact that it will boost our economic growth) but we can't be the only one to offer when there is no initiation from the other side. I appreciate the discussion but it's too biased and only holding India to do something, offer something to improve the relationship.
If there is no intention for normalisation of relationship from the other side, there is no need for India to offer. We learnt our lessons from Kargil. We don't want another backstabbing anymore.

Sir, you have been quite pro China in some sense.
You are also pro peace and advocating Chinese side being more mature and all sorts of goody goody guys.
My question is if that was the case why did Chinese attack India in the first place, India didnt attack them?
There was no provocation from Indian side. People tend to forget this when talking about diplomacy, status quo and peace talks and what not but the primary fact is that China attacked India and not the other way around.

Well, I do understand your point but it's a very complicated issue. We also need to count the opinion of the people of Ladakh. I don't know from where you are but think for yourself, A part of your state is under the control of China when they invaded in 1962, I don't think U would accept losing a huge area of land to an invading nation. I would understand if we lost the land at the time of our independence but that's not the case. We lost it after more than 10 years after independence and the people of Ladakh has been living in this hope that one day their lost land will be united. So we need to first convince the people of Ladakh and give them an incentive for their lost land if we are to accept the proposal of the Chinese.
