Hydrogen for the win. Electric cars are great if you have your own a house with a drive way to charge, but where I live in the UK I would need to fork out about £750k upwards to have a drive. Many of us live in terraced houses and have to park on the street.
Plus the sound of a hydrogen car is way better, you can retro fit old cars with IC engines, and hopefully you will still be able to drive manual.

Can't you just put the charger on the side of the road by your house

@jaymatthews3712 - Simple solution: you buy the car but rent or lease the batteries.
When your battery is low, a service station removes your dead battery and replaces it with a fully charged fresh battery. Just like you change batteries on your cordless drill.
Could even be faster than filling up a gas tank.
Your dead battery is then recharged and lent to another driver.
This battery exchange could even be automated.
      Simple.
It might even be possible to specify how much charge you want in the fresh battery and pay accordingly (although possibly, the higher the charge, the less it might cost per watt).

If all of the companies making EVs actually cared about the environment they would be investing in hydrogen power in anyway they can. Travel range and transport costs are the same exact issues fossil fueled vehicles and EVs have and we overcome them to make it work. Think of all the people working in oil that could be cross-trained to harvest and transport hydrogen. I have yet to see a single legitimate reason we don't drive these vehicles regularly. It's all excuses.

I think the biggest difference between a hydrogen fuel engine and a hydrogen fuel cell is that a hydrogen fuel engine is driven by an internal combustion engine, so it has the same engine noise as ordinary gasoline-electric vehicles and fuel vehicles and needs to change the oil. For hydrogen fuel cells, its driving method is an electric motor, so its driving is the same as that of an electric car!

Don't waste your money on a H2 car.
The membrane or the fuelcell stacks that exchanges hydrogen to electrical energy are troublesome and must be replaced with other components once a year or every 6 months. The membrane is like what you usually see in the RO water filter, except larger depending on the design it can be a rectangle or cylinder with built in heat exchange or cooler. The membrane is getting veryhot while it's running.
It's very expensive, $10,000 or more to replace it a long with other components.
The car works like a hybrid car, battery and all. The coolant to cool the membrane or the fuelcell is another issue to worry about. The membrane only lasts about 6 months to a year, depending on how the car is used. If you park the car for a very long time like a month or so, the system will clog up. Then the membrane and cooling components have to be replaced before you can use the car. The car has to be towed into the shop autorized dealer.
So far, there are NO mechanics at the dealer that can work on the cars, due to its complicated system. You must wait for a trained scientist mechanic from Toyota Japan to fly in for your service on an electrical problem.

No toxic environment problems with mining rare earth minerals for batteries. No dependence on China for the rare earth minerals for batteries. No $expensive$ periodic battery pack replacement. Reduced weight of vehicle compared to EV, so easier on road infrastructure and tire compound emissions. Hmmmm. Let's be sure that the government does not pick winners and losers for our future car and truck technologies. Let the free market decide.

  • @Koubles

H fueled cars are a long way out simply because the US government provides massive subsidies for EV car manufacturers like Tesla, effectively forcing out any other kind of car from the market. Even though the raw materials needed to make EV cars as well as the majority of the electicity used to make them is very destructive. On top of that, having massive amounts of money being devoted to highway repaving rather than alternative transit doesn't exactly showcase a push for "Eco Friendly Transportation". The Government would rather follow trendy BS platitudes than focus on solutions that actually matter.

are hydrogen cars stable now? I read somewhere they are susceptible to high temperatures and can explode.

EV's and lithium have a similar issue. Once those batteries catch fire nothing can put them out, not even water. Its like oil on fire; very hard to extinguish. Gasoline is also explosive but with the right placement this issue is not going to be a problem with hydrogen. The temp issue is resolvable.

nope ... not the future. eventhough hydrogen is more energy dense, the process for making it is highly inefficient and dirty. transporting liquid hydrogen is also very unsafe! The recent theory or using ammonia(much cleaner to produce and safer) and converting it to hydrogen, using the hydrogen to power a generator of some sort, and then powering electric motors ... maybe??? it would mean a bunch of heavy components equipped on a car quickly reducing its range.

ICE will be around for decades. They will be hybrid to meat cafe standards. Electric carss are a nitch market and is NOT the future. Two reasons: 1 the raw materials needed to replace ice cars with electric cars will be prohibitively expensive as demand inceases and: 2 There is not enough electricity to power a fleet of all electric cars and between the charge times and the space required to charge milliona of cars isnt yet feasable. A breakthrough in battery technology would be needed and battery physics may never allow quick enough charge times not to mention that the eletric grid cannot handle it in most countries. The future is hydrogen but it is decades away. Hydrogen is a fuel that can be ieasilynstalled in gas stations, charges in a few minutes and diesnt use the increasingly limited electric grid.
