I love watching others being swept away by Ren's talent and courage.
You know Patrick, courage really is a perfect word for him. I've never thought of that perspective. There's so much unexpected abstract to his music. He just trusts his ability and goes. Well said mate!
Very well said.
You seen Knox Hills reaction? Amazing
Ditto
@@carrytheflag3498 Yeah, I have never come across any artist who is as willing to be publicly vulnerable. Thanks for your comment.
It's almost a Shakespearean tragedy! There were some hidden hints in the song, too. Like Jenny growing up to be as silent as her mother and Screech as brutal as his Dad (also Screeches real name is James. Jenny & James is a popular set of twin names). Also he described Jenny's cheeks to be rosy and the light on Screeches face was blue. Red + Blue = Violet. And one last little nugget I never got before someone pointed it out: Screech can't get a hold of his best friend Patrick and his girlfriend he calls is also "busy" - seems like his best friend and girlfriend might be having a thing behind his back. 👀
I also wonder who was the twins' father? Was it Stevie, or was it Violet's father
Shakespeare and Kurt Weil by way of a millennial rapper - insanely good
@@darena55 yes Stevie is the twins father. We never know the names of violets parents
Ohhhh, I love your analysis of the colors. That's a first for me - and I've watched them all! Very perceptive of you.
This also is in reference to the connection twins have I believe.
As Jenny walked home all alone
She felt scared
Usually she was alright but it was like
There was something in the air
A divine intervention telling her to beware?
Or maybe intuition bugging her and
Making her so scared?
Sobbing here. I didn't want to watch alone for the first time, so joined you.
At almost 70, a mother and grandmother, I know that Ren is a genius and his works of art are rattling walls on a multitude of levels.
So glad I joined you for this ❤
Cute!
I’m English and Ren has been our musical secret for years now , I think now is his time to shine to the world 😊🙏
Strongdad: What can be next?
REN: Hold my beer...
If you like his guitar work try to listen his band Big Push. " i shot the sherrif/road to zion/hip hop" great covers medley.
I think the camera might just have been as shocked by the ending as you were and just noped out. Lol
My interpretation is, Jenny, "walked the floor a thousand times before" because she was a Hooker. She was going home for the night for some sleep when she ran into Screech. I think Patrick was not home at number 54 because he was at Scheechs's girlfriend's house, keeping her busy. Jenny and Sceech didn't know each other because they were separated at birth after Violet died.
dats so dark. If she was twins of Screech and he was 14 years old. so sad. Another hint is that she wears high heeled shoes
I believe Ren says as much in some insta stories. But nail on head man. It’s so interesting watching these knowing what’s coming and seeing the similar pain I felt.
Well my theory is that you suck and have a strange obsession with sex workers. So... that's fun... I'd try just sticking to the story and not stray off the musical path doing your own research. I prefer relying on Ren for character backstories anyway.
There’s an interview with Ren on this song and it was inspired by a prostitute who was killed at the age of i think 14. Which then got the story telling going in his mind.
@@Phazetic99the clincher is I'll cut the "rosie" off your cheeks.
They way Ren and his cameraman work together, I think they could win "Dancing with the Stars"
Had to reply with a chuckle 😆
💙💎🕊️
He is like a medieval minstrel brought up to date. Masterpiece
Better story than most things on netflix.. absolute master-class in storytelling
He tells the stories and the filming of the stories are all done so well i found myself looking for the bodies laying on the ground. The saddest thing about this is the fact each of these things are happening in every town, city, and country at this very moment and the cycle continues
I have the same thing,. In Hi Ren, whenever it goes to the center wide shot, i expect there to be 2 people sitting there in wheelchairs
One of my favourite reactions yet…. I was exactly the same as you. He is amazing isn’t he, I really hope you do more, just to see you be astonished by his talent and versatility. I am 52, never really been into rap, yet I play Ren’s music daily and never skip a single song. His singing voice melts me, his emotion and authenticity breaks me, his rapping astounds me, his musicality and story telling blows my mind. He makes me think and feel in what can be a very numb world sometimes. His collaborations are just as good because it has introduced me to other very talented artists, and his band The Big Push give me good feeling vibes to start my day - I play I shot the Sherrif/road to Zion/hip hop every single morning. New uk subscriber here. Peace and respect ✌️✊🫶
Ren is a Genius, it`s that simple... I`ve been waiting for a true artist like this for the last 20 years.
Me too💯Finally I'm inspired by music again, and his message is changing people's minds and hearts. He is bringing people together 💕
I don't think Ren uses a pick. I'm pretty sure its his zipper hitting the top of the guitar
Great reaction. It’s all just ridiculously good, all of it. The story, the lyrics, the musicianship, the one take video, the acoustics.
Ren is my favorite solo artist by far. Everything he does is executed at a mind blowing level. There’s no one else like him.
I am 67 and I have experienced many, many genres of music, but I have never come across any band or artist remotely like Ren.
The artist he mentioned is decent, I have watched a few but Ren as a whole blows all the artists out of the water. I like Tom a lot but he can't compete with the versatility that Ren has. I started listening to Tom a yr ago and heard everything, so I'm saying this with honesty.
Don't get me wrong, I love Tom's messages in his raps/songs. Ren has similar messages as well.
Great reaction! Ren is one of a kind, a modern day bard, a storyteller, singer, rapper and multi-instrumental musician. The rabbit hole goes deep. He has lots of fantastic tracks solo and some amazing collaborations with Chinchilla, with Sam Tompkins, with Eden Nash and with his band The Big Push. You can't go wrong really, just don't expect him to stick to a formula or any particular genre. Just pick the live versions where there are different ones to see him in his element, performing.
I also think that Jenny was a prostitute! Walking the path thousands off times..
hes so good,in every genre, crazy talented
I just watched this last night. This guy is really good. I’ve been down a lot of rabbit holes and this is crazy good.
BardCore at its best. This guy combines so many genres and makes them all bow to his will. This one gets me every damn time.
He taught himself guitar by watching Jimi Hendrix using extreme slo mo. He’s also a multi-instrumentalist all self taught. Oh and can we give some props to the cinematographer. Keeps it raw and gritty telling each tale.
You have to watch “Chalk Outlines” LIVE by Ren X Chinchilla
(You’d be surprised at how many reacters MISS the ending point that Jenny & Screech were twin sibs)
Wonderful reaction. Ren does a lot of fun stuff too. I'd love to see you react to his band The Big Push doing I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hiphop 😊

All his stuff isn’t dark. Now wait til you see some of his full on rap videos. Or his sweet Verve retake Bittersweet Symphony. Or his singing talent etc. On display in his busking duet with Sam Tompkins (the one that includes It’s a Man’s World) or his busking with his band The Big Push (the one with I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop. The guy can sing reggae, scat, and transition into rap without missing a beat all while burning up his electric guitar! So many and you get such talent each time! There’s even video out there of him playing the piano beautifully, of course, and also he plays drums.
Btw, his mother was a music teacher and a vocal coach and he credits her with introducing him to so many styles of music.
I've been following Ren for a year now. The most talented unbelievably versatile artist I've heard in years. I love watching people's reaction as I remember being so blown away on my first listen. Its amazing watching all these reaction videos.
Not much like DPA eh? I just find it fantastic that brilliant music can come in such wildly different packages. I hope The Warning and Ren both take over the world.
Enjoyed your reaction, how about reacting to Rens band "the big push " maybe "war pigs" or "paint it black" might be up your street .tbh anything Ren is involved with is🔥
One of my favourite parts of all this, is Ren dropping his pick into the guitar to make it sound like it being cocked.
Yeah that's 'the devil in the detail' isn't it. I was trying to work out how he did it, thanks for the answer
I always thought it was his zipper pull hitting the guitar, but maybe not.
You mentioned his skill in singing and guitar playing. What amazes me about the guy is he writes and produces his own music and he’s all over the place in genres I LOVE IT. You should give Freckled Angels a shot. It’s about a close friend to him that committed suicide. He went in detail in the Knox Hill interview, very sad especially with all he’s dealt with health wise, to have your best friend jump off a bridge before he got there in time RIP JOE 🙏
I absolutely love your reactions.
Also, I flipping love your background. I find myself watching that little glowing person dancing around and get completely hypnotized watching it lol
So do you live in the future or is that what this is all about? Lol
Seriously super cool background and great reaction
I really enoy your reactions. He's really an artist in every sense of the word, I'm hooked
I kind of envy that you and many other people have the luck to watch these tales in the right order. I found Violet's tale first, because Ren wasn't trending at all at that time and I actually very accidentally came across this song..well I should say luckily!! Because here I am, falling into the rabbit hole :)
Even your camera shocked 😳 great reaction 👍
Loved your enthusiasm and emotion on this young MAN of the World 👍 ! Fleetwood Mac 😉 . See what i did there 🤪😅🙏
Bro... Ren... Can ya save some talent for the rest of us! Geez!!!
Cats unreal!!!
Such a shame about your camera dying. It was a brilliant reaction throughout and I was so looking forward to seeing your face when the final lines dropped. I feel robbed, but you did a great job.
I am waiting for your reaction to the new The Warning song, come on John get on it ASAP. HEHE! 😜
This is a story of intergenerational trauma. Jenny chose silence and Screech chose violence, just as their parents
History repeats, need to break the cycles, not repeat them. Hits hard doesn't it.
This was a great reaction this MASTERPIECE in storytelling.
Ha we both wrote MASTERPIECE the same, love my fellow RENegades. It truly is a masterpiece. So glad we live in the days of Ren, the world is his. I would follow him to the ends of the earth. Such a humble human, despite being what I personally think is the best artist/muso/performer/songwriter I've seen in 30 years. Peace n love to you from me
If you want more Ren but not so dark then check out his duets with Chinchilla or even look up his busking with The Big Push I shot the Sherrif Road to Zion Hip Hop.
Batman, dark knight, liquid nitrogen
For "Screech's Tale", it seems that almost no one catches that Screech's girlfriend and his friend Patrick, happen to be "busy", or not available, at the same time. Consider why. Maybe they were together? Patrick wasn't home...was he with Screech's girl at her place and that's why she was "busy"? It adds a whole other layer to the story. Also consider that Jenny and Screech were born side by side, and essentially died side by side, one street apart. Born on the same day (2005), died on the same day (2019). An entire family, mother and twins that never knew each other, wiped out by a cycle of violence. An abused mother, a 14 year old prostitute, and a 14 year old thug/murderer. Powerful stuff. Not sure if you caught it or not, but he did all 3 songs in a single take each, just like "Hi Ren". In the "Violet's Tale", the way he uses the acoustics of his environment to accentuate the song is absolute brilliance. The man is truly special.
His nickname The Bard of Brighton really is perfect. Now we need to request Ragnar the Red.
I just watched this with my mum, she cried her eyes out.
Musically speaking, Ren was the best discovery I had for a long time. (the other one was IDLES).
And if you want to hear more of his guitar playing, check out his band THE BIG PUSH
I love ur chanel and your reactions ! So real and raw . Thanks for being u !
If you want something a bit lighter catch His Band The Big Push. BONGO BONG. or. His street performances in Brighton with the Big Push .
If you like his guitar playing in this you DEFINITELY should checkout his band "The Big Push" On their RUclips page check out their live cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff/ Road to Zion/ Hip Hop" it's a 3 song maah up with "Hip Hop" being a song from the rap group "Dead Prez" and came out back in 2000. You have tomake sure to get the video off of "The Big Push" RUclips page and it has all 3songs listed. You know it's the right one because Ren is wearing red suspenders. They're busking for money on the streets of Brighton and there's a few hundred people around them.
But the way Ren is puts his whole heart and soul into the guitar solos and fills he's playing it's a masterclass in blues/reggae lead guitar playing. Then when he starts singing you'd think Bob was reincarnated.
You can also see how Ren loves being a musician and showman. He loves performing in front of a crowd and he had them dancing the whole time.
ALSO on "The Big Push" RUclips channel that same day they recorded a bunch of videos, even originals. But yours probably like their cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" and "Paint It Black" by The Rolling Stones. They're both 🔥🔥
What in The Fifth Element is going on with your background?😂 Jokes aside, great reaction! I'm speechless at how versatile he is and how well he does everything. Dude is a beast. You should check out some of his more fun stuff like What You Want or Losing It.
It's not all dark, try some of Ren's street performances with his band The Big Push, I think you'd like his cover of War Pigs
Appreciate the honesty in your reactions. I'm a Renegade from the early days after Hi Ren was released - there's much for you to possibly delve into and I see you haven't done a Ren reaction in a while - you might like to check out Money Game Part 3 (you don't have to have watched Parts 1 & 2 first altho they do provide some background context) and also Suicide. Anyway - thank you again for your openness and genuineness.
I was Violet for 11 years...i somehow managed to live..it was so hard to listen to Violets story...im actually crying..There are STILL MANY Violets out there.☮️💓🇬🇧
2 minutes in and I already know this is gonna mess you up badly. This one messes up everyone badly.
I like to think screech's s girlfriend and Patrick were keeping each other busy
Thank you for "getting it"
Drives me nuts when people think that Jenny escaped.
The way your face lit up when he started tapping in Violet's tale melted my heart 🤩 Great reaction
Ok, now you HAVE to see another side of Ren, if you haven't. The next video you need to react to is "The Hunger." Again, you're not prepared for this either, but in a VERY different way. There's no end to this man's genius. "Chalk Outlines" is another, and it's live. It's breathtakingly beautiful!
Am crying with laughter at your reaction/camera timing at end there; for a moment I thought you were a glitching out AI due to ‘Rentroduction’😂
Awesome Reaction! Ren is a modern day bard for sure. If you want to hear Ren sing try out Chalk Outlines live. If you want more bardic story telling try out Money Games Part 1. Want to see a lighter more fun side of Ren? Try out Losing it.
The Tale of Jenny n Screech is a modern Shakespearean Tale! And Ren is a modern day Shakespeare!
lmao i was thinking the same thing about the camera, it breaking right there portrayed the feeling pretty well
Emotional reaction is totally appropriate. ❤😂❤
Everybody has a loss of words... cause Ren has them all! Lol
Best in the business no discussion nessasery.....
I really think Ren needs a live show, with many sets on stage, and let's just have a few hours of Rens story telling.
thank you for reacting to my favourite artist ❤
Great reaction- keep going with the Renaissance
I’ve seen quite a few reactions to this, but I love you reactions for this trilogy. Perceptive & I can see your appreciation for Music best through this one compared to others. It just hits different, Thank you
His talent is there for all to see. In the West, we have been starved of the David Bowie's and Freddie Mercurys who made you sit up and listen to the words and the pictures being painted in your head. For 2 decades we have been stuck in Mainstream of bland or tuneless music. Whereas in China (I know 😳) there is a young man called Hua Chenyu who has been doing "REN" before REN. Storytelling, Rock, Rap, Reggae, Pop, SynthPop, Electronic, Accoustic, Jazz, Ballad, Broadway, Traditional Chinese.... all done to draw you in as... him singing to.. YOU and your heart. He, (like REN), makes you cry or tap your feet to his stories. I've followed Hua Chenyu for six years because no one in the West was doing music I engaged with. Now REN is mirroring "Hua Hua". The drama, the vocal and instrumental abilities is intoxicating. (For Hua Chenyu, try "7 Personalities" or "I really want to love this World" or "Exaggerated".. all with English subtitles). He has literally hundreds of Performances. And I'm still waiting for a bad one. Hopefully REN grabs back music in the West from Simon Cowell and too powerful Music Moguls interested in THEIR choice of music.
I love your reactions because you show emotions and feel the music, peace and love🏴🏴🏴🏴
Your reaction was great. Your expressions throughout told me everything you were experiencing. Ironic was a perfect explanation at the end. Your battery said, "Let me absorb what I just heard".
What a great reaction, thanks! :)
Ren blows minds and now he's blowing computer circuitry, he's a legend already!
Brilliance! Mind blown, no words.
jailbreak"RIFLES FIRING" ac/dc 1977? everything is new again
YOU REMIND ME OF MY STEPFATHER the only decent memories i have of childhood
I adore this trilogy.
Don't worry, Ren has that effect on a lot of us :)
Get yourself some 'I need something fun' and go watch the live version of Sweet Little Lady by The Big Push (the band Ren is/was part of) or their cover of War Pigs
Nice!!! Thanks for reacting this.
Please do also:
Ren x Chinchilla: Chalk outlines
Ren x Chinchilla: How to be me
after you reach the end of violet's tale, you realize the initial guitar playing at the very start is basically Violet recalling her past memories as she dies, then fading into the afterlife (where it turns ethereal and Ren is going "oooOOOoooOoooo..")
Great reaction. Loved the freeze frame.
just found your Ren reactions now amazing buddy. keep it up just subscribed straight away x
Ren's creativity knows no bounds
Two things:
1.) Great reaction (as always)
2.) Are all of you guys really in CO?!…because I always vibe with your content - and I’m also in Denver, so it’s just……IDK, surprising.
Immortal Technique DANCE WITH THE DEVIL a song with similiar story telling, by the end it will give ya goosebumps for sure. Highly recommended to y’all if you enjoyed Rens tales.
Anyone who really ‘gets’ Ren gets my thumbs up and subscription- great reaction…
Great reaction man. ✊🏽
Thank you for reaction! Would you please make reaction to Falling in reverse song Popular monster. Greetings from Denmark!
I came here right after your HI REN reaction. It's such a joy participating in the aha's and emotions of first-time experiencers of anything Ren... or to hear newbies exclaim and repeat, "I wasn't expecting THAT!" To quote an old commercial, "Ren is the gift that keeps on giving." May he and you and all of us live long and prosper.
Ren is exceptional
I actually thought the end fit perfectly. Almost as if the camera was reacting to these tales also. I am completely mesmerized by Ren. There is something primordial, other worldly and timeless about his approach to music and story telling. I am looking forward to going down the Ren rabbit hole and listening to anything and everything he's put out. So far I've just listened HI REN and this trilogy. Enjoyed your reaction. You have a new subscriber.
Loved your genuine reaction! Happy new subscriber. I appreciate you!
I love your reaction!! ❤ I said, "Who's Violet?" too!!
Dude it’s so freaking awesome and definitely ironic about the camera 😂… love the reaction ❤️
Please check out the band ren's in, the big push - wade in the water/Nina Simone/trouble so hard. Live busking in Brighton ❤❤ thanks
Yep. Ren does certainly revive the old moritat/murder ballad. A genre perfected by KurtWeill/Bert Brecht. He gives the old "Tom Dooley" a modern, multi-ethnic update. What is amazing is how hungry we are for that genre which is old as fire and evenings and groups of people.
Hey, Strongdad! Just found your channel! If you enjoy 'Hi Ren', and this song(s?) then you should check out his song "Chalk Outlines." It's incredible, it shows more of his musical ability, with a little bit of storytelling in there a tiny bit. I think you'd enjoy it.
If you love the storytelling, then do Money Game 1 it tooj them 186 yries to get the one shot video i is the one Ren was dissapointed did not do better. Money game 2 was easier for peopke to digest and provided the " she sell sea shells" quote fie Hi Ren. But i am confident yoy can grasp #1:and woukd appreciate it. I am av73 year old woman and i understoid it deeply.
Btw: the heart doesnt have words sometimes. . But it has whatbit needs
MONEY Game 3 will cone out in August 2023 and is Ren's mist ambitious one taje vudeo ever. He us very proud if it. Please do more Ren.
Or... The camera didn't freeze - you just burst into tears {like the rest of us}
???? 😆
There has been a little negative coverage in the mainstream media about Ren's content. Cleary those people don't 'get it', or, are mightily resisting being dragged out of their comfort zone. But that's the whole point.
Ren is not doing this for sensationalism or shock value, but telling the gritty stories of our time, laying bare all the twists and turns, the drama and tragedy of the human condition.
As the world is coming to realise, he's a Master Storyteller and Lyricist, insisting that we engage and not look away. More; that we 'Bear Witness' to these uncomfortable truths, and he presents a call to DO something to prevent more innocents becoming yet more victims and/ or perpetrators. Powerful.
The more I watch his work; the more I think he is a modern street theatre Troubadour in the best of Shakspearian tradition. Using styles, rhythms and cadences that really 'speak' to all, but especially the current generation. Millions around the world are sitting up and paying attention.
His 'Hi Ren', I believe, has done MORE - in one song/ performance - to engage; awareness, understanding and empathy for people with mental illness, than literally decades of Community Awareness Campaigns targeted to reducing community stigma.
I'm keeping everything I HAVE crossed, that he doesn't allow himself to get overwhelmed by the current buzz and demands on his time, and stays as well as he can be. We need the Ren's of this world. They are all too rare.
Unlike the majority, I do not think that Jenny was a prostitute. Why? 1) Night comes as early as 4:30 pm in the winter months so “ late” could be 10pm , when streets are often quiet. 2) Walking the same streets a thousand of times … who hasn’t? To/ from school, work, friends house etc 3) At the age of 14 it’s very normal to be trying to look older and it’s when I spent LOTS of time at the make up counter of department stores and “ borrowing “ my mom’s “ heeled boots
4) If she was really a pro she’d be used to walking those streets alone ( not to mention getting into strangers cars) and she’d also be used to the sounds of sirens ( and she’d be committing one of those crimes). Just my take…
