I have literally never in my life heard it called AfroEurAsia or world island. Growing up we were told that Eurasia is a single continent, because there's no distinct geographical boarder between them, but Africa is only connected to Eurasia through a narrow strip of land with a channel through it, just like central America with Panama channel, so it is a separate continent
That is an artifical canal, so it doesn't count.
A continent is a large mass of land separated by *OCEAN* so Afro-Eurasia is a continent, America too.
@@peperillo I also think that it's like that so I like to count 4 continents:
Afro-EuroAsia
America
Oceania
Antarctica
@@peperillo I mean yes that's one definition of the word, there's also the one that only cares about the tectonic plates aka, where eurasia comes from
The channel is man made, and many cultures DO consider the Americas to be a single continent. The Panama canal is artificial too.
Seems like a massive amount of financial investment for no real benefit. Until Africa become a larger portion of the economy it isn't a sound investment.
This is probably the most sensible comment I have seen here so far.
It is entirely possible to do it. But as long as it's not financially beneficial, there is no reason to build it.
=AFRICA CANNOT DO SO BECAUSE OF IT DOESNT HAVE TRANSPORTING POTENTIAL,AND POTENTIAL CAN APPEAR IF TO CONNECT BY RAILROAD

@@robotnikkkk001 You make no sense.

Master Robotnik ships exist you know? 😂
If i go with the food... this is more like buying 1000m2 of land but you only have one seed to plant. And now you want 1000$ worth of equipment on top of that. Is it worth it? By your logic it is, because without equipment and land you can’t grow shit. Which is true, but just by buying those 2, seeds won’t magically appear.
This comparison is even kind of favorable for you, because we can easily transport goods with ship while growing food without any equipment is hard.
It make more money for Europe’s companies to make roads in Africa. Less investment and more return.
0:49 it didn't affect history that much, the Mediterranean is easy to cross, the Sahara is a bigger hurdle.
Exactly
Yeah, and road infrastructure and safety would be massive problem even outside Sahara.
Yeah. People forget that “Europe” wasn’t really a geopolitical area until recently. It was really the Mediterranean area. That’s why so many empires took that area over
Nations on the Sahara a green wall green Sahara plan, so overtime parts of the Sahara will be more populated than today, and as a whole easier to cross, but it will still be not easy.

@@Kalleosini Yep, a road connection would be good but a rail connection would be amazing for connecting North Africa to Europe. I don't think Sub-Saharan Africa would benefit much for the same reason that most goods from China go by sea and not rail. Its cheaper for bulk goods.
It would be a huge waste of money to build something like that, bridge or tunnel. There's simply no economic incentive to do so as seen from the European perspective. It would also further escalate the problems of migrants fleeing the African continent
You think there would be police or even an army watching and also dogs can sniff people in cars so smuggling them in trucks or cars is near useless and let's nit forget that the sahara is huge and stop many sub-sharan from coming and north africa is way better then sub-sharan if you don't look at libya and or even Egypt which have some decomracy problems the people west of libya are taking action and having better government morocco and Tunisia are doing great but Algeria has it problems.

Where they can solve complex tasks in small bite sized chunks
Brilliant is going to put Universities out of business eventually. Literally anybody on the internet, if they wanted to, could receive a college education at less than a fraction of the cost!
That being said, the problem with linking Europe to North Africa, by way of the Mediterranean, is damn near impossible to even think about doing. Even if you know all of the math, geography, and science, required for such a construction to even be more than a "daydream," no one with burnable income will really want to do it, because the Mediterranean Sea is one of the world's most ACTIVE geological fault-systems (almost as active as the Pacific Rim, when you look at the sheer number of earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions, that have happened in the Med, in the past 100 years alone)!
In short, even if you could get a tunnel/bridge built in one of these two proposed areas... it wouldn't last very long. And any loss of life during a major seismic event would be CATASTROPHIC! In short, boats already make transition between the two continents normal, and feasible. They are far safer for casual travelers. And they just make financially, economically, and scientifically, a billion times more sense!
Tunneling the Mediterranean is a fantasy. It will never be anything more than that. Besides, in about a thousand years, Europe and Africa will be connected above sea-level anyway, when Morocco slams into the southern tip of Spain, after a massive catastrophic Earthquakes squishes the two continents together.

I live in the city of Messina in Sicily and I can assure you all that such a huge bridge between Sicily and Italian peninsula will never really be built in the next few decades, even though our politicians keep mentioning it quite frequently from decades, also no Italian government ever even mentioned the possibility of a tunnel between Sicily and Tunisia...
What about a bridge/tunnel connecting Ireland to Scotland?
been looked at again deep trench with the added fun that the uk military have dumped a huge amount of surplus bombs into it
its not so much of a sea bed as a mine field
Doubt the government would wanna fund that when they already have a problem with N. Ireland and RoI since Brexit
@Umos the IRA apparently said they'd begin bombing again if there's a hard border between northern Ireland and Ireland but because the UK isn't in the EU there needs to at least be checks so it's difficult
@Umos well I mean it's just a terrorist group so they can form when they want but I heard the government got a letter from them saying they'd begin the bombing again, this was when brexit kicked off tho
Also a floating submerged tunnel has been discussed across the strait of Gibraltar. The first such tunnel is also being built in Norway at the moment. Let's see whether it works out...
If we're talking about tunnel connections I think we should include bridges:
0:52 - Should be worth noting that Turkey has bridges that makes circling the Black Sea not necessary.
4:54 - Also, I appreciate you pointing out the needed bridge between Sicily & the Italian Peninsula.
After the migration crises in 2015 it's fair to say any potential bridge (even if economic and engineering sides are met) just wouldn't sit well with the citizens of Southern Europe. Spain, Italy and Greece already struggle with undocumented migrants, a majority of which get through via short crossings from North Africa. Why would any functional and responsible government ever consider linking up with such a region?
As stated in the video, there really isnt any economic advantage to such a bridge, meaning the transportation of people in one direction would be the principle purpose.
well, that and the fact that one of the 2 bridges would have many diplomatic tensions to deal with (i.e. Gibraltar and Spain, even if the tunnel does not go through Gibraltar itself, they have territorial waters, and Morroco and Spain, due to Ceuta and Melilla), so your only option would be to try and build between Italy and Tunisia in what is a massively busy shipping channel.
@@MysteriousFigure Morocco already have land borders with Spain. As you mention. So why would they have a problem with a third (fourth?) land border with Spain? They probably wouldn't care to pay for the tunnel though. Not unless they get benefits from it.
And that's the issue. No country would pay for such a project unless it's profitable in some way.
@@Tjalve70 they would have a problem, as they already don't like having a border with Spain via Ceuta and Meillia, as they believe that the lkand involved is theirs, so its not like Morocco and Spain are the best of pals, hence why they wouldn't want another land border, which is more so evident if you look at the border fencing Spain has used for the territories, so its not like they are particularly open and free
@@MysteriousFigure You're making assumptions here. A tunnel from Morocco to Spain would be something completely different from having Ceuta and Melilla there. And I'm pretty sure the Moroccans would understand that.
I highly doubt a bridge or tunnel between Africa and Europe would make much difference to illegal immigration. Migration control on a bridge or tunnel is relatively easy - there is a single point of exit. It would almost certainly still be far easier, and more cost-effective, for people smugglers to pile people onto old boats and make the trip over the Mediterranean.

Britain: -_-
Does nobody in the comments care about this?
Isn't that what they wanted? Brexiting so hard that they become their own continent.
They would have protested and voted against being included in EuroAfroAsia in Brexit 2.0
@Fanrabbit You have my support.
What do you mean... he is only highlighting the mass that's connected ...the UK isn't physically connected to Europe...
Thanks for video keep going 🤠 greeting from Morocco
"The Insane Plan to Build a Europe to Africa Tunnel" i just lost all knowledge
But its a amazing plan
Damn imagine going into that tunnel then a hole forms and fills the tunnel with water
I'd rather not
That is an issue with every single tunnel going under water.
Funnily, I don't think it has ever actually happened. Not on a proper road. That's because they try to prevent things like that from happening, and they have pumps to pump out any water that does seep in.
I have many times driven through a tunnel that goes about 200 meters below sea level. I have never worried about water there.
7:20 That’s not the Tunis ferry, it’s an Alaska state ferry. You can tell by the flag on the funnel
Here is an idea on how to deal with the depth at Gibraltar. Only dig deep enough to avoid problems with surface traffic, waves, etc. Then connect the two ends with a "floating" tunnel. It would need shock absorption and expansion joints at the ends, but the main section would be shielded from the worst of the shaking of earthquakes. It would probably also need cables and buoyancy control to properly control its position. Even with these requirements, it seems much easier than either tunneling all the way under or building a bridge over the straights. So engineers, is there some major problem I am overlooking?
a submerged floating anchored tunnel would be a solution to avoid seismic problems, shock absorbers could be in the cables and the tunnel could "snake" a little bit to allow for a variable distance between continents.
Im italian and............naaaaaaahhh we dont want that stupid bridge that will pollute see and kill fishes....thats why goverment dont do it
Mi sa che gli scarichi dei traghetti inquinano di più di qualche pilastro di cemento...
Did you know
*The Kola Superdeep Borehole was the longest and deepest borehole in the world for nearly 20 years. However, in May 2008,Al Shaheen oil field in Qatar was drilled to 12,289 m (40,318 ft), with a record horizontal reach of 10,902 m (35,768 ft) in only 36 days.*
I didnt know that
not really
How many foreign workers died during the drilling of that oil field?
May I ask for some of the sources you used? Would like to read more about said theoretical and actual projects :)
watched this on nebula and wondered why it cut out so abruptly at the end.
I just realized that its because the brilliant ad was cut
0:35 He included Sicily lol
