    A very powerful tool to trim down rom collections - most people only play around 500 games if that many out of the 12,000+ rubbish romsets out there!

    This guy's video's are really good. He goes into great detail. If it's not working, it's likely you missed a step. I have been going back to parts of the video multiple times. I got 202 working roms in mame which is better than I have ever done myself. Also tip if you play test your roms in retropie any non working roms put in the arcade folder. Then run fb neo as a default on those rom sets fb neo will tell you exactly what you are missing.

    I just imported the full non-merged 0.252 romset to launchbox without any duplicates/versions. I then choice with genres to not include in the import options.
    After importing I sorted all the roms with a star score of below 3 plus all the roms without less then 4 reviews and deleted them. I then exported my filterer romset and importered again after deleting all roms. Worked like a charm!

    I got a question, if i wanna filter a MAME2003Plus reference Non-Merged romset (0.78+), how can i include the "Roll-back" versions of the games of future versions that this version supports (according to retropie wiki)

    • @Floob
      @Floob  Год назад

      You get the .dat file that relates to the exact version of Mame2002Plus that you have and you rebuild your set using 0.78+ as well as the latest rollback romset available.

    Awesome
    Q: I've trimmed down my unmerged romset .262 to around 2k games
    with future updates (.262 to .263, etc) do I need to just download the update (my roms are unmerged but it seems all updates on progetto are merged) then I download the update DAT file, run the update & dat thru clrmame and rebuild to my current romset directory?
    I know it will look to update 'every' game in .263, but it will only find my filtered romset. Will it simply update my romset and ignore the rest? I also know there's a dat file export at arcadeitalia for clrmame maybe I can go that route and create a DAT file of only my filtered games?
    Hope the q makes sense. Right now when I want to update I'm just doing a clean install from unmerged scratch using clr mame & the full set dat
    (I know about half of what I need to know, so forgive if the question is witless)

    • @Floob
      @Floob  Год назад +1

      So we change the path here to where the romsets are: ruclips.net/video/NoK7SBuxSEw/видео.html because the script uses that to know where they are - it doesnt care where the actual mame executables are as its just moving files, not running anything.

    Instead of removing just clones, can you make a video how to get this down to 1g1r then sort out the ones you don't want?

    • @Floob
      @Floob  Год назад

      I only really use 1G1R for consoles. I'm not sure how I'd use it for arcade romsets, I mean I wouldn't want to, say, just use Japanese clones, I would want to pick and choose on a per game basis. That's why I broadly go for parents, then manually swap in a clone if I want it. You may want to use pre-filtered lists instead, like all-killer no-filler.

    • @therock40359
      @therock40359 Год назад

      @Floob yeah i mainly wanted to only have 1 game for the ones I wanted and only keep the games that are in English. Unfortunately some of the clones are the English versions

    Hi Floob, how different is the results of this compared to the 'How to convert a 118GB MAME ROM set down to 11.4GB removing clones, duplicates and unplayable games.' using LaunchBox video here: ruclips.net/video/GZfoOTckURA/видео.html - are there different pros/cons?

    • @Floob
      @Floob  2 года назад +1

      Hi. I think if you have Windows and are able to run Launchbox, its a great way to achieve this sort of result. This video is more geared to being front-end and OS independent, so trying to cover those on MacOS, or Linux distributions like the Raspberry Pi. The output on ArcadeItalia export allows Linux style .sh files which I guess I should have covered as well.
      I also like the sheer amount of config options on ArcadeItalia down to the subcategory of game and control options etc.. That said, I should try out Launchbox on my windows machine, it does look good.
      I think some front-ends are pretty flexible about what they can hide, so purely filtering results in some (instead of removing the physical file entirely) can be an option, but where the front-end doesnt allow that or the user doesnt want to spend time tweaking the front end, getting a playable set of files is a good alternative as shown in these Launchbox/ArcadeItalia videos.
      I think reducing the diskspace used can be useful in not just the efficiency but avoiding needing to scrape games (and store the metadata) you will never play.

    • @wellofcire
      @wellofcire 2 года назад

      @@Floob i tried the whole launchbox methos, several times, with a split fairly new mame romset....what i got was a trimmed-down folder, which was exciting....until i tried to play the games--over half of them at least became unplayable because of the wonderful 'missing files' situation....still not sure why it does this or how to get around it.....

    • @Floob
      @Floob  2 года назад

      @@wellofcire Hi. I dont use launchbox, but before you filter down a collection I would make sure its working first. if you trim a split set then none of the clones will work without a parent. This video may help you rebuild a solid set first: ruclips.net/video/wyonq8TQdYo/видео.html
