I have the same bike, and have a big chain and lock on
It. I know someone who had a 1290s stolen from the bike park area at their company. They replayed a video of the area and watched two people steal it with the aid of a laptop.
Keyless technology is useless. Bring back good old fashion key and lock.
Happy you got it back and well done to the polish police. Stay safe
Sad thing is that I have traveled to “all those dangerous “ countries without having to worry about any of this. Bike was perfectly save (so I think 🤔) and back home it gets taken 😬 respect to the Polish police for sure 👍
With portable modern portable rechargeable angle grinders - all usual theft prevention devices are pointless.
@@LondonSteveLee absolutely- but anything that makes it harder will help I am sure (or at least I hope it will)
Had my brand new 03’ Harley stolen from my off street car port while living in an apartment complex long ago.
Silly me only had a disk lock, along with an engine disabling audio alarm installed. Happened when I stayed the night with my lady friend. Upon returning home I rode right passed the spot where I park my car, because I was looking for my bike. As you said, it just didn’t register.
What I learned from that incident is the heart can’t want what the eyes can’t see. Every bike since has been garaged.
Far too many scammers, dishonest types, and opportunists out there to risk giving out my address. I always pick a public meet up place when I sell anything - usually the local police station parking lot! An easy way to dissuade potential wrong doers. Thieves 🤬 them guys! Any counter measure that can deter theft is worth while. Glad that you got your bike back.
Thank you very much - sounds like you have been through something similar but I suppose they did not catch the bike thieves in your case ?!
@@MotoVibes your police were much more vigilant than the ones I encountered. I was told the next day “Call your insurance company. The bike is likely in pieces by now heading over seas!”
I paid 23K for it, added 3.5K in extras. It totaled a bit over 27k after tax and title.
Insurance only gave me 22K for my claim. The bike was only 3 weeks old 😮💨👎🏾
@@thebigoaktree8401 that’s a bummer. At least the majority of the value was covered but I am glad I did not have to find out what my insurance would have paid out. I guess you hardly ever get the true value paid out
Great video and thanks for your advice.
Thank you. Keep your bike safe 😉
Yea, this is why I now trade-in my old for new these days- thieves are everywhere. Also NEVER let them test ride unless you have the money in your hand, I had one a long time ago who crashed it on "test"- I wasn't paid for that. My 1290S, has tracker, alarm, Litelock, Datatag and lives in a locked garage.
This is likely the route I am taking in the future. Trading the bike is a lot less hassle - my bike is now in chains as well 😉
Hello Olliver, good you finally have it back. I also always turn in my bike with the dealer so I don’t have those problems. Good luck with the new bike, are there many differences ? Regards Guy
Thank you very much. I did a short review of the bike when it came out ruclips.net/video/6BGIR5pji6o/видео.html. In short the lower center of gravity is great. The resulting wide tank has the advantage that the bike does not fall so flat like the predecessor which makes a solo lift of the bike much easier. Also the suspension received an upgrade which was very noticeable to me when riding off-road - much better response and no bottoming out of the front forks anymore
Yeah, I think its wise not to give out your address for this sort of thing - its the times we live in! So, stupidest thing I ever did (in my defence I was a naive 18 year old), was to let someone test-ride my bike - a Yamaha RD350LC - when selling it...yes, he rode off up the street, and that was the last time I ever saw it!!
Took me a bit longer in life to get to this realization 😂
It is sad mate, I had 2 cars stolen in Brazil... 2 attempts as well but I could defend myself and the thieves got into the hospital + jail. The world is getting mad, and we need to defend our private property.
That sounds a lot worse. Most important thing is that you are ok. The rest is replaceable 😉 stay safe !
I was going to apologize for giving your video a 👍🏼. I always 👍🏼 before I watch your videos. But now….YEA!!! 100 👍🏼’s to you, your new bike and especially the law enforcement folks that captured that piece of 🤬. Happy story to begin a fair weather weekend of riding my Tiger 800. 👏👏👏
That’s much appreciated my friend 🤙 crazy story and excellent police work for sure. My new ride already has gotten a good workout and the season is just starting. There still loads of content coming up of the old black beauty some of the best stuff I haven’t even gotten around to editing yet. It will be very apparent how long it takes me to make these videos now 😂 thanks for your support and enjoy weekend of riding 👍😎
Wow crazy story man, glad it worked out.
Me too. Hope that never happens again 😉
Where i live, we dont even activate the steering lock. I dont think there has been a bike stolen here the last 35 years. But in my area there is more raindeers than people.... ;)
Now you have me curious- where do you live? 😉
@@MotoVibes Way inland in Swedish lapland. Not far away from the arctic circle
@@jage6126 👍 I crossed Lapland in Finland last year on my way to Nordkap. First time for me to cross the arctic circle and first time to experience days were the sun never sets 😉 amazing experience
@@MotoVibes Yep. Good lights on bikes are pretty useless for us. When it becomes dark, it is snowmobile time..
@@jage6126 always something I wanted to do - I have never ridden a snowmobile 😉
Don't get me wrong, but I never, ever, give my address when I'm selling something. No way!
We never know who really is the other person.
Glad it worked out well for you.
Yep - learned that lesson the hard way 😉
Put it under a cover that says "bagger" no one will even look underneath it.. especially if you have a few fake top-cases....
Good idea 😂😂
Here in Colorado we have used bike dealers that sell your bike from their store on a fixed commission of $500. You set the price, but they won't want it if your price is too high because they don't want to waste their space. They are fair in their price assessment, however. I have never heard a single complaint about them in 5 years of numerous friends using them, especially for high end bikes -- Ducatis, BMWs etc., but cheaper ones as well. All you have to do is deliver the bike and documents and history/background. So, you avoid all the risks you faced, but don't have to negotiate with a dealer either. For example, 2 weeks ago a friend delivered to the dealer his difficult-to-sell 2015 Triumph XRx with 40k miles (64,300kms). To his delight the bike sold the same day and he received 1/3 more money for it (after deducting the commission!) than what he was offered by the Triumph dealer from whom he had just bought a new 900 Tiger GT Pro. Hopefully this kind of arrangement is available elsewhere. He was less pleased with the Triumph dealer, of course.
That sounds like a great concept to me. I wonder if dealerships near me offer this. For my last 2 bikes I did something down that line where you offer your motorcycle on a dealership platform- they will bid for purchasing price and you get to decide if you take the offer. There is no renegotiation after this and the pick up of the bike was smooth and professional. Of course you will not get the best resell value as the dealers have to make money to but it certainly cut out the hassle.
@@MotoVibes the fixed commission is a key part of this concept. Dealers here have always been willing to sell a bike on commission, usually 10% or 15%, depending on whether you purchased a bike from them, but the fixed commission takes out the dealer profit factor. What surprises me is that I have never heard a single complaint about them. Who can say that about a dealer? The #1 concern for friends using them was, as in your case: security. #2 was avoiding time-wasters.
There are some evil people out there.Glad you got your bike back.Cheers JHB-SA.
Thank you very much 😉I will have to be more careful going forward
Super vidéo . Je pars en Roadtrip le 24 juin en bmw Gs . Furka , grimsel, Tessin
Thank you very much- enjoy your trip 😉
We had a stolen car and they didn´t found it. The sellout process takes 4 weeks of time where they wait if they eventually retrieve it and then the time the insurance need to pay the money. After that you can start searching for an new vehicle. So it takes some time.
I was surprised that they ever recover a stolen vehicle especially once it crosses the border. I will be more careful from now on. I am sure dealing with a total loss with the insurance would have been a pain too. But at least I am covered if that should ever happen again
@@MotoVibes Hey Olli. Bei mir war es die HDI Versicherung.
Viele Grüße
@@thomasbernhard6160 vielen Dank. Gute Versicherung wie es scheint 😉
I was curious where my German friend has been
I can empathise with you
2013 I owned a 1190 S
It was ready to do my first ever adventure to Italy 🇮🇹
On my own has none of my friends where into this new adventure riding
So my daily ride was a CBR 600 F4i
I needed a bit of work carried out on my Honda
And decided to ride my 1190 to work
Looking back I was foolish
I had my shoie lid my gps in the top box heated gloves all of my new kit for my first adventure 🤬
I did have a tracker which was activated and I was talking to the company that covered me
I managed to flag down a police car and explain my problem
And begged him to follow the advise of the tracker company
He told me that he was not insured to drive with me in the car
And couldn’t take me
And to add insult to injury
He was more interested in me having a warrant out for me 😮
I never got my bike back 😢
And gave up riding for eight years
Thinking back it was just a lump of metal
And I got home safely 😊
I am glad to say that I am passed that know and back riding regularly 🏍🌬️
I did invest in a Asgard container and a dog 😂
It’s great to here that you are well and still enjoying the miles
Stay safe my friend 🧡
And remember that you are awesome
Thank you for sharing that story 😉 like you said in the end it’s just a bunch of metal (which we all get very attached too somehow 😂) and it’s heartbreaking to get it stolen - but it can be replaced. Good health sometimes can not - ride safe and stay awesome 😎👍
What’s your address again? 😂 Thanks for that advice. Right safe, have fun!
Yeah - I was just about to share it publicly 😂😂
Too darn 😂
@@MotoVibesplease do share it. We just want to look at your new bike 😅
@@FxRiderST lt me tell you it’s a sad sight to see the new beauty covered up and in heavy chains 😂😂
Crikey you were lucky to get your bike back.
I think you were just a little too trusting. When you said the actual guy coming to collect your bike was Russian and wouldn't speak any German or English that was the biggest red flag and also that you gave out your home address to total strangers who were crooks.
Also I would not have a motorcycle if I could not keep it in a locked garage. No way.
You should also fit a tracker as well.
Trading in through a dealer is probably the safest and most convenient way to change your bike, but the downside is you have to haggle and haggle hard to get a good deal. Even if selling privately you still have to deal with non thieves but who happen to be chancers, dreamers and time wasters. Is it worth it? Only you can decide.
But most importantly did your insurance company rip you off by massively increasing your premium on your new bike even though you got your old one back eventually?
It's bad enough when a vehicle is stolen but you can feel like you have been robbed for a second time by your insurer when the amount they pay out is very low and they then massively increase your premiums even if you didn't make a claim in the end.
I don’t usually assume someone is a crook based on where they are from - my last 2 buyers - one was a private person and the other a dealer were from Poland - no issues at all - on the contrary the first transferred 500 Euros before he even came to look at the bike. Something I wouldn’t have done 😉
In hindsight though this story meets all the stereotypes we have in Germany about vehicle theft. Glad to know that the police is putting a little dent in this but I am sure overall it’s just a tiny tip of the iceberg
My insurance rate has not changed as there was no claim. I have had no claim in the past 10 years so it’s relatively low for German standards 😉
@@MotoVibes Neither do I, but the fact that the guy coming to collect was Russian, spoke no English or German was not the person you had been corresponding with are red flags to me.
Good that your insurance premium has not increased. Here in the Uk they would have put it up regardless even if you got your bike back and withdrew a claim as they would say your are STILL at an increased risk and increase the premium. Insurers in the UK definitely ARE crooks.
But glad it's all worked out for you. The 1290 SA R is an awesome bike. Safe riding.
Good for u!
Thank you 😊
I hate selling things because of scammers. Never a good idea to give your address and best to meet in a public place. Meet them in a police station or McDonald’s etc.
Absolutely- or avoid it all together and trade the bike in 😉
@@MotoVibes Certainly the easy method but be prepared for very insulting offers from dealers :)
@@bazza8947 yep - that is the downside. 😂
Legal
I really didn't believe this can append with this specific bike but hey, they still anything this days I guess 😮
Yeah. Not sure what they were planning to do with it.
Wo ist der Airbag?😢
I wasn’t wearing one for this trip based on the experience of the previous off-road experience ruclips.net/video/4O7xjgOfCPo/видео.html. I have been testing a Klim / In&motion airbag for this season which has an “adventure riding / off-road “ setting - this airbag is worn under the jacket but it can get pretty warm at higher ambient temperatures- review will be coming at some point 😉

What an experience! Years ago a friend was selling his Ducati 996. He advertised in a local motorcycle trading newspaper and finally got a response. The guy was knowledgeable and asked good questions. He wanted to meet at a local shopping mall on a Sunday morning to ride it. My friend met him there. After walking around the bike several times he ask for the keys to do a few laps around the parking lot. He did a couple laps and took off. My friend looked around and no vehicle was there. He felt so stupid to have trusted this guy and never got his Ducati back. So it is sad but true, don’t put your address in an ad. Don’t let them ride the bike without money in hand. Have someone with you. Don’t trust anyone. Thieves are out there. Good you got yours back in pretty good condition. Best!
@@creedm3040 good point about the test ride. I wouldn’t buy a bike without riding it first but it’s so easy to just have someone ride off with it.

Keine Airbag-Weste mehr? 👀
