Hey I'll try and give as much of a breakdown as I can. I listed everything in baht. You can divide these numbers by 30 to make it easy. So for example, I pay 10,000 baht for rent. That's $300. My cell phone is like 700 - 800 baht per month which is about $25 and includes unlimited data + minutes. My electricity is I don't know, let's say like under 1500 baht? Water is like really cheap..just a couple hundred baht if that. For food - depends on the week. If I'm going home after work, I typically stop and get street food which is normally 50 baht. If I go out and eat, dinner could be like 200 - 500 baht. And that's not including drinks. A glass of wine is like 150 - 250 baht. So, meeting friends out at certain restaurants and ordering drinks can easily be close to 1,000 baht if going to nicer places like rooftop bars and stuff. And if I order food delivery to my place, the total is typically more on the 500 baht end. *Keep in mind that these prices are for Bangkok. Cities like Chiang Mai are much cheaper.* Transportation - I use a motorbike taxi to work for 30 baht and the same cost going back at the end of the day. So 60 baht each day, 5 days a week. Taking taxis across town are like 100 - 150 baht (obvi depends on where you live and where you're going - I don't live right in the center of everything). The train is cheaper, of course, and can be about 50 baht if you're going a far distance to popular hangout areas. I also ride the bus sometimes too and they're REALLY cheap. Like 9 - 11 baht and some of the buses are even free. Travel is really cheap. You can hop on a bus to nearby islands for like 150 baht, depending on where you're going. Hope that helps!
Have to also keep in mind that this is extremely subjective and will vary from person to person. For example, my numbers are FAR different. Also, I think a place like Phuket is actually more expensive than Bangkok.
Tori Talks Do you live in a high rise condo? I watched a YT channel called Travel Beans months ago when they first moved to Bangkok and they signed a 1 year lease in a beautiful condo building that had many many amenities gym, pool, tennis courts, etc etc and their unit was really high up with great views and I remember them saying their cost was a bit over 3k for the year so roughly what you’re paying. I would love to have a gym, pool in my building as well as live in a higher floor for the views. Budget wise I think I’m gonna be Straight I’m planning of $1,500 USD per month and whatever I don’t use in a certain month will just be rolled over into the following month. 2020 can’t get here fast enough

Very enlightening comments and perspectives! I have a funny side line question as an African American female, hair/make up and product care. How do you manage or are you receiving shipments from home/online?
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the interview. Yes, finding hair products is a struggle. Makeup isn't. You can find darker shades here. Rihanna's Fenty Beauty line with all of the shades is also here. So, I don't really have to worry about finding makeup. For hair products - you can find things like oils. But, if you're looking for specific gels, curling creams, etc - nah. Also, it's very humid here so trying to wear your hair straight is like nonexistent. Most women get braids, weaves, or go natural honestly. And there are a few salons here (both ran by Thai and African women) that do braids, weaves, etc. I wouldn't suggest relying on shipping hair products. For me, I've tried to get assimilate and make do with the resources here so finding new shampoo, conditioner, oils etc. You'll eventually find your places to shop and there are markets that sell more hard-to-find things but it will definitely include a TREK + Scavenger HUNT to find the stuff.
This is something that I grow up with. As one of the product of Vietnam War I was born here while my dad serve in the military. I delt with the racism since childhood. This may not be the same racism in the US, but my sister and I grow up in it in Thailand. Please keep in mind that most Thai people are genuinely good people. I think people have this image of how everyone should look and we just throw a curve ball on their ideas and they just can't handle it. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the good work.
Yay!! As I prepare to venture out, I've been wondering some of these things. Not that I care much about dating (to quote Jason Derulo, "I'm riding solo!"), but I do wonder if I'm cutting off all possibilities by going abroad. Add to that, I am (currently) plus-sized and (always) have big feet. Shopping is a concern. LOL!
We just might do a part 2. Lol. I'm sure both would be more than willing to answer those questions. I stayed away from the topics like hair care and clothing but can definitely see how that info would be valuable.
I went to Thailand at my heaviest weight and the only thing was when I did tourist activities I had to plan to take care of myself and go at my own pace, but overall the experience was fine. I was only there a month and wasn’t looking to buy clothes, but now with online shipping it’s not too hard. Don’t let your size stop you! Go and do what you feel called to do! I was in Bangkok and found it very diverse, with many expats of different countries and races.
Girl, listen I LOVE shopping. So, I get it. Luckily, there are different FB groups here in Thailand that sell plus size clothes as well as a flea market-like shopping plaza called Krung Thong Plaza that sells plus size clothes. The style isn't always that great, but there are options. And of course, there's online shopping. But custom and shipping costs is a diff story. Haha. For shoes - there are a few Payless stores in Thailand and they sell shoes up to a size 10. Malls also have larger sizes so you'll be able to find stuff. You'll quickly learn how to mix and match well :) Like for example, taking items that you find at markets and pairing it with old clothes you brought over.

Definition of an expat. A person working for a multi-national company send by the company to Thailand because he or she has expertise not available in Thailand. The person gets a extremely generous 6-7 figure compensation package. Do you qualify?
