What I find interesting is that in 1994 and 1995 Stefan Johansson, although not on the team, was driving a sub-contracted Penske chassis! He actually led a race in '95 (and I watched it live on TV) and finished third in Nazareth, which is considered the home ground of the Andrettis.

Great race on a nice track too. Carnage Candy with those penalties though...jeepers! Love the trio of Paul Page, Bobby Unser and Sam Posey in the booth...they really made it engaging and fun to watch.

Gosh, between the styling and the paint schemes, the cars looked so good back then. The cars today look silly.

Sam Posey refers to Stefan Johansson as a “young Swedish driver.” He was 36 at the time, about about 4.5 years younger than Rick Mears, who had just retired, 3 years younger than Nigel Mansell or Arie Luyendyk, 6 years older than Little Al or the erstwhile Michael Andretti, and 12 years older than Paul Tracy (the same age difference as Sam Posey vs Johansson by the way). Age is relative sometimes, I guess. But being 36 myself I guess I’m glad I can still pass for young by that standard.

Sam always seemed to talk a bit of nonsense. You can always hear Uncle Bobby getting annoyed with him and it cracks me up every time.

1:01:30 this is why we have full course cautions much more frequently. Especially if a safety truck or emergency vehicle needs to be deployed

Boy, if you thought the 93 Indy500 had some sketchy penalties that influenced the race, wait until you get a load of this one. Hard for me to believe Raul was actually the closest challenger to the title at this stage.

Always the "what might have been" for Raul in the 93 season, especially the 500.

@@mikehergenroether6160 Also what might have been for Emmo. That BS black flag for the start was questionable at best. Had Emerson not had to serve a stop and go I don't doubt he would've handily won this race. I also think the championship would have had a much different outcome. Mansell was overrated.

I do wanna point out that literally almost everyone mischarectarised the situation at the start. The problem was not that Fittipaldi passed Mansell before the start line. If you watch the replay carefully you will see that Fittipaldi passed Mansell before they say saw the green flag. in fact Fittipaldi had his nose in front as they came into alignment for the start. That is what was not allowed. Fittipaldi clearly jumped the start, he passed Mansell before the timing of the race would have commenced according to the rules that were read out on the air.

Anyone know the music playing throughout the season recap during the first couple of minutes? P.s. Thanks for the uploads!

Wally Dallenbach probably didn't get any Christmas cards from any of the teams who were affected by the penalties either at the start or during the race. Sorry if I insulted anyone here.

funny enough Mansell dominates ovals and not road courses

    • @afridgetoofar1818

Nigel’s car that year was a rocket ship, and really shined on the ovals. He would’ve won Indy had he not screwed up coming out of that yellow flag.

I personally never cared for these street courses. I like closed road circuits, such as Mid Ohio, much better.
