- Hey Guys, I ADOPTED A CAT!
I drove 3 hours during quarantine to pick up my cat (Wilfred) from Ontario SPCA! He was 10 weeks old and barely 2.5 lbs when I adopted him. Since I am a first time cat owner, I had a lot too learn and I was worrying about every little thing about the cat adoption process. Luckily OSPCA made it very easy for me and they helped me a lot along the way.
Wilfred is a very smart kitten and he loves to play. He is super cuddly and loves to be around people. I couldn't have asked for a better addition to our family.

- Just wanted to provide some background to this video. Cats typically purr when they are happy and content but can also purr when they are anxious. In stressful situations, cats purr to calm themselves down. Although Wilfred doesn't seem stressed in the clips, he was having a very hard time in the car while we were driving. He was panting and crying. This wasn't shown in the video as I wasn't focused on filming at that time. As a first time cat parent, I was pretty concerned about his initial reaction to being in a moving car. He ended up adjusting really well to our driving after an hour or so, so I stopped being worried. We made multiple stops along the road due to his panting to make sure he was fine before we started driving again. Big thank you to all of you who are so nice and understanding. I really appreciate you! -

Just wanted to note - I know that purring is usually a really good sign and means that the cat is happy/content. However, I also read that cats may purr due to stress or anxiety! As a new cat parent I couldn't help but worry about everything and that's why I was so concerned in the video! 😅
He is a super happy and cuddly cat now, so everything worked out!
You are right about purring.It usually mean they are content but in times of sickness they will purr to heal themselves..
Make sure that is a break away collar ..okay..safe if gets stuck on something
And you were stressed too!
This baby just needed comfort of her mum. And still will and likely for the rest of time because cats have to and loves company also especially sleeping next to their mum n dad. Will follow you everywher
And they do get separation anxiety even if you pop out a few hours x
Of course he was stressed out and was scared being transported to his new home in your car and wanted to be on your lap for comfort! He already bonded with you and he now loves you and his new loving home!

Purring is really good as long as it’s not really long and the tail is wagging very fast and very aggressively, if so he’s getting stressed or anxious, it’s like a child sucking their thumb, and the needing means that they’re happy and reminds them of their mother’s love. I hope you and him have a great life!

That kitten was actually pretty chill on the car ride. He was purring -and not in a stressed way-his ears were up, his tail wasn’t lashing, he was exploring pretty bravely, he was grooming and playing. Try not to overthink things and just enjoy him-he seems to like you very much, and it’s obvious that you already love him!

Here's a good tip after you done playing with the cat it's good to feed them so they feel like they have hunted something especially for a kitten that's a good tip they feel like they have hunted something and that's a good thing to do for the kitten

7:28. you actually know how to pet them. Cat likes to be scratched and it seems that it's your instinct to know how to pet them right off the bat.
7:50. he wasn't stressed at all. he was making biscuit so he was content.
8:13. I'm glad that you actually did research of their purrs. They can purr because of pain but it usually happens to sick cats. A healthy young kitten purring is highly to be content.
You worry far too much! I've never seen such a chilled out kitty on its first road trip. The only person stressed out in that car is his mama!

Tuxedos are the SWEETEST! I had a long haired Tuxedo - as he was dressed in formal Evening wear, I named him Jeeves! My upstairs Butler. He was that indeed. Sweetest Boy ever.
@@mdee860 I'm more of a dog person, kind of regretting getting a cat. I just got her cuz my mom wouldn't get another dog. Baby is a jerk, lol. She gets attention when she wants it. Cats own us, we don't own them. Dogs are the opposite, sometimes. Yeah, but I prefer large male dogs. Very specific, Ik. Had a really good connection with my late dog, Nala. Died from parvo, may she rest in peace 🙏. She was a semi-white American Bully, had some brown spots on her tail and on her lips. An American Bully is a type of Pitbull.
The dogs I like are German Shepherds, Huskies, Pitbulls, Labradors, Aussie Shepherds or any large mutt. But there's a 90% chance I will end up with a mutt because I'm adopting, lmao. #TeamAdopt

Thank you for understanding! It was pretty hard to communicate why I was so concerned through the video. 😅 I really appreciate your comment!💕 Your foster kitten must have been the cutest! In regards to the bell, I was worried about the same thing so I brought it up with my vet! My vet said that it's completely fine and that it's probably a good idea for kittens since they tend to get lost in the house the first couple of weeks. So it's better to be able to hear where they are and be able to track them down!

I adopted a tuxedo 8 yrs ago...now Stella is 15 and in such good shape. That breed is the most loving. Wilfred is happy...dont be afraid! U will be a good mommy!

We just got our first cat 6m ago. I can so sympathize with feeling like you don't know how interpret what they're feeling. Honestly, your kitten looked really happy right away. You obviously prepared quite well and kept everything calm. Enjoy!!!

You have definitely picked a wonderful furbaby! The following is if you haven't already heard. Hardly any cat will ever be very happy in a car especially when travelling. Our cats cry the whole 2 hours when we make extended visits to family so we do that rarely. It's true purring happens for different reasons but if it's in nervousness they won't fall asleep on your lap. Watch Jackson Galaxy's channel he is very experienced about cats.
This is the most adorable thing ever. If you're this worried over a new kitten you are going to be a great hooman mom too.

I have 4 cats and when a cat or kitty makes the Purring sound it’s nothing to worry about bc all cats do the sound it’s normal. The REAL meaning why cats purrle is: Purring often are associated with positive social situations: nursing, grooming, relaxing, being friendly. More likely, though, purring is simply soothing, or self-soothingq
You are the sweetest new cat parent! Fb sent me this video and it cheered my day. We foster kittens and I hope they all find humans who care as much about their emotional well-being as you do. Don't be embarrassed about not knowing everything...people in cat world are quick to jump on every little thing, but we're ALL learning new things as we go along.
PS you seem like the sort of person who might enjoy harness training your kitty. If that's something you're into, he seems like the type of super-confident kitten who might take to it quickly (after the obligatory initial protest flop) and really like joining you for walks!
This is one of the sweetest and most understanding comments I've received, thank you so much! It's difficult being a new cat parent but we're trying our best to educate ourselves as much as possible and to provide the best for him. The learning never stops! And you are completely right about the harness training! We brought him out before the winter hit here in Canada and he loved it. It's a little too cold now but when the spring hits we'll bring him on walks again! 😄

Tuxedo cats are my favorite!! Orange a close second! And, hey, I got a airPod from Amazon. It came with a collar. They’re for basic tracking. My three legged orange cat made his bad self down the small state hwy when I got an alert! I panicked and went looking for him. Stinker!! It also has a chime so you can locate with sound! If you have iPhone, it’s real handy!
Looks like to me you did a great job, we were a lot like you, never had a cat before but now will always have cats. But we were told we needed another cat, we said no way but we ate our words. We ended getting another one, they are sisters but 4 months apart, another best thing we did. They are so funny together, when we are not home they entertain each other. Get another one about the same age, you will not regret it.
I saw Wilfred slow blink at you a few times. The slow blink is cat for I love you. If you see him slow blink at you, you can return the slow blink as an I love you back. That is one happy kitten you have there. He's quite the hoot!

ive been binging cat videos recently, and some peoples cat vlogs i cant finish, bc i notice them making mistakes, or doing things that could stress out the cat, but your video, and you putting your jumper in the little carrier is so good!!

Just so you know bells on ypur cats collar can cause destrese and anxiety and may cause unwanted behaviors from agitating bell noises
I’m really glad you are worried about your kitten but purring is a normal thing and cats do it when they are happy and content one thing I wanted to say is when you are play with ur cat with your “duster thing” maybe when he is holding on to it don’t start moving it around especially if it is in his mouth because he could be biting it and you might hurt him pulling it while is is chewing on it and also wet food is wayyyyyyy better then dry food for cats I suggest if your cats is used to dry food maybe get him more used to wet food anyways hope you and your cat will be very happy

nonono waiiit it's not good for the colar to have a bell!!!! cats are natural hunters so having that noise while they hunt is super stressful! it is not recommended for cats and do not believe in store sellers, ask people who own the animal or study better about feline behavior, good luck angel!

hi!! when your cat put his nails in your seat or furniture, he wants to scratch something if you have a scratching board or a scratching post that would be amazing, it stops cats from ruining ur furniture or ect, they do that when they are super stressed and scratching helps them cope,
they get super stressed out and un-well if you do not have anything for them to scratch, if u do that’s amazing and keep up the good work!
I don’t recommend putting collars on your cat, it’s actually more dangerous for it than it is safe. Your cat can get stuck at things outside with the collar on. Also the bell makes it impossible for the cat to hunt outside, which is it’s natural behavior that shouldn’t be suppressed.

Nothing wrong with the collar but the bell is stressing for them. It's better you remove it.

Awww so cute. When you get him a new collar get him one without any metal. I had a similar collar with the metal piece for the bell and it eventually wore away at my cats fur. There are collars with plastic bits. Congrats on becoming a cat Mom.

Welcome to the world of raising a kitten. I adopted a rescue cat at 12 weeks, and now he will be 8 months on 3/3/21. I absolutely lucked out with my cat. He is an absolute gem.
It's the best feeling in the world being matched with the perfect kitty! Our kitties' birthdays are super close to each other! Wilfred will turn 8 months on 3/22/21 😊 happy 8 month birthday to our little boys!

Definitely get him a chip in case he escapes, that way should it happen he can be scanned at a vet and found out who he belongs too, a collar with a tag (like a dog tag from a dog tag machine), will work too but since that can break away its possible he may get the collar off before he is found.
Cats may be more interested in catnip as adults (1 year+) than as kittens (hard to say) but it may also just be the quality of the catnip variant (there's multiple) that isn't to his liking that much, or that he's too stressed/curious and there's too much to process on his little kitty mind. You'll also have to learn to kitten proof the house (he'll find ways to cause mischief and things to get into (some of which you might not think of at first) Gonna have to give him food, water love, catnip, attention but don't force him, he'll come on his own (though nothing wrong with calling or encouraging or going up to him and giving him some loving (especially if he doesn't seem to mind)
The dialiation of the pupil in a cat's eyes is a good indication of how excited/anxious or stressed they are. The smaller the black area the more calm and relaxed they generally are. And usually means less likely to attack or go crazy (varies but take it with a grain of salt) He can be trained to wak on a leash like a dog but its more difficult with cats, best to start them on that early with a harness that fits well and let him get used to that (he'll probably object to it at first as is typical), but after being on him for a few hours or a day or so he should be able to walk as normal as he usually would even with it on, once he's at that point then put him on the leash and try to get him to walk with you

I suggest not trying to pull the toy when its in his mouth, when hes just grabbing it is fine but if its in mouth it may hurt or even break his teeth (depends on how hard youre pulling) anyways hes such a cutie pie! 🥺🥺

Ahhh congrats!! I’m so happy for you ❤️ We packed food, water, litter box, carrier, blankets and toys! I would suggest playing with your kitty before you hit the road to tire them out! Wilfred didn’t do well with the driving, he cried and was panting a lot so we made many stops along the way to let him rest. We also didn’t force him to stay in the carrier and ended up letting him sit on my lap because it really helped calm him down. Hope this helps!
I start put in a harness for walking and safty at 4 mos. Now my Smokeybear has been walking and hiking with me since then. He lived in my RV as we are travel all over three place. Love you new baby boy!

We have four cats, having adopted two brothers (both 2.5 years old) last April (2020) here in Ocala FL USA. Our other two cats (aged 10 and 6) have welcomed their new brothers without too much fuss.
