The best video on RUclips for me. There is for sure nobody better than SRV. Stevie and the guitar are one instrument. I wouldn't be surprised that the people at that concert still hear ringing in their ears. He only knew one volume...more. I read he had an amp made special for him cause all the ones available only went up to 10. He got some made with 12 or more. Thanks for doing this great video from Stevie!

Not sure he broke a string here. I have read that the guy whose passing inspired this song built the white guitar, so he prefers to play the song on that guitar. That might have been the reason for the change.

@@mrmiscast I was at his last two shows at Alpine Valley. I was 20 at the time and I honestly had no idea what I was about to witness either. I was in awe after his performance. He took me to a spiritual place I have yet to visit again in my lifetime. I actually walked out on Clapton because his music was a distraction from my experience. No loss though. I had seen Clapton before and would many times after that show. And, Clapton came out and proclaimed SRV as the greatest guitarist he had ever seen or heard. Then he said, "How in the hell do I follow that?" He proceeded to play ballads and it became a couples concert. I've seen hundreds of shows in my life and those SRV performances are still alone on the top shelf.

@@SimplyKSimone I watched every rection to Stevie you’ve made so far! All are great. Honestly tho, you can’t go wrong with “Lenny” such a beautiful instrumental he wrote for his wife lenora “Lenny”. Very bluesy and jazzy feel. Live at the el mocambo is a great performance of this song.
However there is another very underrated version where Stevie is playing Lenny for the last time after having not played it for 2 years because he and Lenny got divorced. In this performance, Stevie goes off his usual trail of the song and makes it sound entirely different, it sounds like he’s saying not only goodbye to his ex wife, but like he’s saying goodbye to the song as well. That performance does make me emotional

Stevie wrote this so ng for his friend Charley Wirz who was a mentor and helped Stevie in how he designed his guitars and who died of a heart attack. This white guitar they both worked on and Stevie named it Charley. His other beat up guitar with SRV was called Number One. . Stevie is my favorite and a genius on the guitar but he sobered up from a very bad drinking and cocaine addiction in the fall of 1986 with bassist Tommy Shannon who was his best friend. I love the man even more because he helped so many to sobriety in a gentle humble way.

I loved your reaction ❤️. The message was not scripted. It came from his heart and each performance was a little different each time. But always had the same meaning of love. After he sobered up he included that in his message as well, but always just wanted love for everyone. I do get a kick when he loses his tooth and if you read lips, he grins off stage and says... lost my tooth...gone! And then just grins and continues on. He is amazing❤️

The funny part is when he was playing with his teeth, on the last strum his tooth came flying out his mouth. Right after that you notice him looking down at the stage looking for his tooth, then he turned to the side line " lost my tooth, gone " kept playing like nothing happened.
When I saw him the weird thing was while he played absolutely no one stood we were ALL fixated by his stage presence.

Hi saw Stevie play in Seattle in 1985 unbelievable, also if you look close at the 10:53 mark of your video you can see Stevie say he lost his took.

I always thought this song was about him finding sobriety bc of the “when I look in the mirror. We come face to face.” At least, that’s what I always thought it said. Anyway, I appreciate your appreciation. This is a God 💕

I love to watch your reactions to his moves and just his plain persona if that is the right word I am searching for. It truly is heartbreaking that he was taken from us. My guess is that God has other plans for him. I guess we will have to be patient to see him when we are up there with him. I actually feel physical pain at times when I watch him. He went through years of addiction and finally was clean and sober and then was taken from us. I never saw him live either and which I had. I missed his performance at the El Macombo in Toronto Canada by days which was unfortunate. However , like you I can now watch him through videos here.
He had his speech recorded when he was at AA. It is definately worth a listen if you can find it. I'm pretty sure it is on RUclips as well. Another performance I think you would love is his live version of "Look at Little Sister" Live at Montreux '85. I think it is my favourite version of the song live. Not to mention he looked so dang good in it!! 🥰😘😘🥰
Give it a listen if you havent. You wont be disappointed. Love your super honest reactions and your feelings show. Thank you

Just goes to show you how consumate a performer he was. To put on that kind of performance while fighting equipment issues. A guitar 🎸 switch, pedal lost its power cord when he hit it, and making adjustments to his amp stack on the fly, all in the same song! Anyo one of these thing can halt a performance. He never stops the 🎵
