I've stayed at both French Quarter and Riverside and I've loved it. French Quarter for the city ambience and Riverside for the peaceful country ambience.
Weirdly enough I love this resort but I prefer Riverside, it's so peaceful and calming. I feel like everyone is always in such an amazing mood, it definitely adds to the Disney magic!
Great to hear. Always hear wonderful things about French quarter but the look of riverside appeals more to me. Can’t wait to stay in their royal guest rooms next year
Yes yes yes, this was the first hotel my family ever stayed at and has been our favorite ever since. We love that it’s not crazy big, with an easy walk to the buses and food from all room locations.
Absolutely love this resort. I do not need a “sit down” restaurant at the hotel. If I want table service, I’ll venture to Disney Springs on the relaxing boat.
My husband and I absolutely adore this Disney Resort! We love the theming, the Cast Members are always fantastic, and the food is to die for. One Word- Beignets! Every time that we have been to Port Orleans (honestly both Resort locations), it was a quiet and peaceful stay. The river is beautiful and relaxing. The rooms are always nice and clean. It's affordable for the times that we go. It's not overly Disney, but sometimes that is okay! Another plus is the lovely boat rides to and from Disney Springs. We always look forward to them. If you don't stay at the resort, at least visit it! I hope you won't be disappointed.
I am truly ecstatic that there will be a Playlist for each resort! I can't tell you how helpful this video is and each of those videos will be! I'm watching ALL of THEM!!!
We stayed in Port Orleans two weeks after it opened in 1991. It was simply called Port Orleans Resort & was a separate resort from Dixie Landings. They were not integrated until 2001 when they changed the name of Dixie Landibgs to Riverside, & Porrt Orleans became French Quarter. The original Port Orleans Resort had a full service restaurant called Bonfamilles Cafe which was amazing & they gave you beignets free as a starter at breakfast. This has been our favourite resort ever since.
Just got back from French quarter last week and we love it! Being from Louisiana, we enjoy the theming but the best part is the small size making everything easier (catching the bus and shorter lines at the food court). And I have to disagree with AJ (this once 😆) about the city feel. Having been to NO many times, this is not what I would consider a “city feel”. But I understand what you are saying!
I’m staying here next month! When I called for the military deals, I found out Caribbean Beach wasn’t even offered for us this year. We went over what I liked and didn’t like about CB since we stayed there last year and she said French Quarter checked all our want boxes. It’s small, has a water slide, and charming. I’m so excited!
This was my wife’s first resort when she came as a kiddo in 2002 and then this was my first resort, first time coming to Disney in 2019 and now our now fourth old will be celebrating his first birthday here come February! All the feels!
Thousand times yes! This is a TOP 5 Disney Resort, great affordability, great beignets, great quick service dining, great theming, AND great location on the water with boats that take you to disney springs!
We stayed here in 2022, and it was glorious. The ferry ride is just chefs kiss 😘 perfection. Just booked our next WDW trip in 2025 and we decided to stay here again. Just 267 days to go!
This is our favorite resort. It’s so beautiful, easy to navigate, great pool , small splash pad and beignets! Plus one bus stop, great lounge entertainment, easy walk to Riverside if you want a change of pools . Also, the running path around the two resorts is perfect.
Try the savory trio of beignets at the scat cat lounge… they are the BEST! I prefer the pools and walks of riverside but I usually start and end the day with French Quarter beignets. FQ is smaller but so gorgeous.
As a family and a couple, we have stayed at a myriad of WDW hotels, and Port Orleans is our favorite place to stay. It’s fun, quiet, and small. Love it 😍
This was the hotel I stayed in on my first visit to WDW. I loved everything about it and would absolutely stay there again. A peaceful oasis after fun days in the parks.
I remember staying in the French Quarter in 1997, it was plain old Port Orleans then, and it had a table service restaurant called Bon Familles. Have I dreamed this? Love all your videos AJ.
You didn't dream it; you're completely correct! I was just coming to the comments section to say AJ got the history wrong. Bonfamilles Cafe was awesome; I'm sorry it went away!
Love this hotel and it was our go to before we joined DVC. First time there a bird had a nest right outside our room and when my kids walked down the walk they would get dive bombed by momma bird. Its a nice memory.
AJ - I feel the same way about fort wilderness 😂 I’m from canada. I’m surrounded by cabins and forests and though the tree types may differ - it’s definitely not the beach vacation i want when leaving ontario!! 😂 I guess i’m weird as well.
I LOVE FRENCH QUARTER!! We are going in July and doing a split stay, just to experience more! But we always stay at French Quarter and the first part of our spilt is at French Quarter! Absolutely LOVE this resort!
AJ has it backwards. Once upon a time they were separate. Dixie Landings, and Port Orleans. In 2001, both resorts became Port Orleans, with Riverside and French Quarter added to differentiate the two.
@@jmajette2 I edited my comment, thanks. Not sure if it auto corrected to Disney, or if I just flat out typed it, but yes, it was originally Dixie Landings, which made it seem like Port Orleans was its own separate resort.
This has been our favorite since we first stayed here in 2005. We love taking the boat to Disney Springs, and the serenity of the resort after a day in the parks can’t be beat.
Hands down the most beautiful and relaxing Disney hotel (and we've stayed at many). We've stayed here twice and will continue to stay here over and over again.
The first place we ever stayed at Disney world. Loved it because it was so small and close by. My young daughter loved the serpent water slide. Did it for hours. Great experience for our first time.
We're staying here in September, can't wait! We stayed at Riverside in 2020 and really love it, so calm, beautiful grounds and close to Disney Springs.
A friend and I just ended up upgrading to this resort today! We were gonna stay at Pop Century but the Skyliner will be down for most of our trip, so it lost a lot of value in our eyes. But videos like this and a TON of positive stuff about the resort overall was enough for us to decide it was forth a little bit more to upgrade for one of the best moderate resorts. Looking forward to it in a few months!
Our first family WDW Vacation was 1998. Our family of 5 all stayed in one room to save money and that resort was..... Dixie Landings. At that time they were the only resort that offered 2 queen beds and a trundle bed. We loved it so much we went back 5 times through the years! I know the name changed but it really is a beautiful, laid back resort.
We stayed there on our most recent trip (May) and LOVED IT. ALso, for any gluten-free readers, the gluten free beignets are FANTASTIC and mine were fresh out of the cooker. ./swoon
So excited to stay here for my first ever WDW trip in August! We just passed the 60 day mark on our countdown and DFB Guide has helped me feel so much more confident and prepared! (Even though I'll be going with a Disney expert)
Me and my husband are going in August for an adult Disney week only and this is where we will be staying at! I’m super excited and I can’t wait to try Scat Cats!
I remember staying here when I was 6 years old (I’m now in my 20s) and I loved this place. They had a cute little shopping area where I got a charm bracelet with little mini figurines of all the Disney princesses at the time. I wonder if they still have anything like that, I would love to add on to it.
11:50 they won’t trade you, but they’ll do returns. I bought a spirit jersey, which was now $80 at EPCOT. When I got it back to my room, I noticed the letters were literally falling off!!! Such quality warrants the price hike from the already recent $75, to $80. Anyway, they don’t carry spirit jerseys, and Animal Kingdom apparently was out of stock that day, so I was stuck wearing a sweatshirt I had bought from WDW back in 2000. Yeah, 22 years later, and it was still good, because back then Disney stood for quality! Adjusted for inflation, it was probably still significantly cheaper as well.
Stopped at POFQ for our second time a couple of weeks back (also stopped at Riverside, itself no slouch). We wouldn’t want to stop anywhere else at WDW. The food (beignets! Pizza! Jambalaya!), the resort landscaping and vibe, and not having to walk for miles to get anywhere (looking at you CBR with your internal bus system(. Few things beat a gentle late evening walk along the river from French Quarter to Riverside and back whilst the water taxis pass tooting their horns and waving, such a good way to unwind and decompress.
This resort is definitely on my bucket list. I just need to break away from camping at Fort Wilderness …. That’s hard to do cause we always have the best time there!
FYI, POFQ did at one time have a sit down restaurant located where Scat Cats is now, it was called Bonfamille’s Café. Back then the resort was simply known as Disney's Port Orleans Resort and although it was a sister resort to Disney's Dixie Landings it did not share the name.
I'm the same way- I want to feel like I'm on vacation when I'm there. That's why we never consider Wilderness Lodge and such- it's a setting we can easily find where we live. I want to be surrounded by palm trees!!
I actually prefer Riverside over French Quarter, especially if you stay in a Royal room. They’re a lot of fun. If you have kids, the basic rooms can be a little bland. Heck, they can be bland if you don’t have kids. 😂
My wife and I love FQ! This may be a hot take, but we prefer it over AKL. It’s the laid back atmosphere, and the view of the river where we sat outside in the evening outside of our room (we moved the chairs outside) having a nightcap after a long day in the parks (we may have done this before leaving for dinner as well lol,). Most of all we LOVE the very short walk to transportation. The boat to Disney Springs is awesome! Transportation to the parks may only be buses, but when the walk is less than 2 minutes I’ll take it for the win (versus AKL which can be interminable in distance and time, depending on where your room is located, especially at Kadani Village). Oh, and easy access to beignets! The breakfast of champions! Lol!
Stayed at Riverside in early 2020 - before ... well ... YOU KNOW! But, we are going to French Quarter in October of this year. Gotta get the Mickey Beignets!!
Nice video AJ..& having stayed in a variety of WDW resort hotel it is by far our favorite. My wife & I want a chilled laid back MO plus we love grabbing breakfast ( occassionally dinner) at the Food Court while sittng outside under the Verandah w ceiling fans to add both to comfort & ambience.
Great video - very informative. HOWEVER, as a New Yorker, I’d love to know where those $1200/month apartments are in this city. Lol. I don’t think they exist.
Thank you AJ……I want to stay here when A8 go next year…I though5 about the Poly but my account will love It here better. I went to the real NO French Qtr and this will take me there again.
I checked this place out, it’s so expensive!! So so beautiful I can’t imagine being able to stay! My niece is getting married near Disney and I’ve wanted to go my whole life! My mother has too! I never imagined how much it would cost! Is it tacky to tell her we can’t come?
I love the theming and I love the beignets, but I do not love the bathrooms. They are fine for a couple or a family with young children, but with our group it really didn’t work well at all since it isn’t split up with the tub/shower and toilet in a separate area than the sink/vanity. Only one person could get ready at a time, not the most efficient.

I agree with this 100%
Great to hear. Always hear wonderful things about French quarter but the look of riverside appeals more to me. Can’t wait to stay in their royal guest rooms next year
Agreed 👍
@@kimp1044 we did a royal room some years ago and loved it!
I may be one of few but im not a big fan of french quarter, Riverside is so much better and nicer.

Stayed here once on a last minute vacation when Saratoga Springs was not available. Loved the compact size, one bus stop, boat to Disney Springs.
When we went and the Dining Plan was in play, we used pretty much all the snacks on the yummy beignets :)

My favorite moderate resort! Well, tied with Riverside BUT the small size makes it number 1 😁
🏆
We stayed here in 2022, and it was glorious. The ferry ride is just chefs kiss 😘 perfection.
Just booked our next WDW trip in 2025 and we decided to stay here again. Just 267 days to go!
Literally booked my French quarter reservations earlier this morning today. Still happy with my reservation after this video 🙌🏼☺️💕
This is our favorite resort. It’s so beautiful, easy to navigate, great pool , small splash pad and beignets! Plus one bus stop, great lounge entertainment, easy walk to Riverside if you want a change of pools . Also, the running path around the two resorts is perfect.
My favorite resort! After all of the overwhelming sights and sounds of the parks, the respite of POFQ is just what is needed.
Try the savory trio of beignets at the scat cat lounge… they are the BEST! I prefer the pools and walks of riverside but I usually start and end the day with French Quarter beignets. FQ is smaller but so gorgeous.
Hands down our favorite place and it’s “our hotel”! Staying here again in Dec and the only place we’ve stayed at our past 5-6 trips over the years!!!
As a family and a couple, we have stayed at a myriad of WDW hotels, and Port Orleans is our favorite place to stay. It’s fun, quiet, and small. Love it 😍
LOVE that hotel. We stayed there on our honeymoon and are staying again in September for our daughter's 21st birthday
I’m actually watching this for research for my future honeymoon!
This was the hotel I stayed in on my first visit to WDW. I loved everything about it and would absolutely stay there again. A peaceful oasis after fun days in the parks.
Stayed here Christmas 2021 & previously in 2012 and 2015. Definitely one of our faves.
I remember staying in the French Quarter in 1997, it was plain old Port Orleans then, and it had a table service restaurant called Bon Familles. Have I dreamed this? Love all your videos AJ.
No you have not! It was the first time I ever had proper strawberries and cream! Your memory is correct!
It's where the lounge is now.
You didn't dream it; you're completely correct! I was just coming to the comments section to say AJ got the history wrong. Bonfamilles Cafe was awesome; I'm sorry it went away!

The OG Port Orleans. And I still call the other one “Dixie Landings”.
We visited here a little while ago to get the special beignets and it's a great spot!

Staying here for this first time in August! So excited!
And... a sense of humor! One of the "streets" (sidewalks) is named "Rue d'Baga".
I’m so staying here if I ever get to visit WDW again. Great informative video. Thanks
As someone from South Louisiana, I feelthe urge to go to this resort and judge the gumbo + jambalaya.
One of my favorite moderates! It also seems to draw less families kids- which for two childless millennials, we love!
We just stayed there and we absolutely loved it!
Thank you AJ……I want to stay here when A8 go next year…I though5 about the Poly but my account will love It here better. I went to the real NO French Qtr and this will take me there again.
I love what you do
Ok I didn’t know that both riverside and French quarter guests can share pools. Game changer.
Thank you for this, we will be here at the end of August. So excited 😊
I stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. Big difference. It doesn't have the same esthetic. I was at Alligator Bayou, there's no Disney flair there at all.
I checked this place out, it’s so expensive!! So so beautiful I can’t imagine being able to stay! My niece is getting married near Disney and I’ve wanted to go my whole life! My mother has too! I never imagined how much it would cost! Is it tacky to tell her we can’t come?
Always our favourite!
I wish Caribbean Beach Resort received more love from Disney bloggers.
Definitely staying here, it’ll be like a home away from home 😂 going for Halloween this year so excited !
I’m going in September! Well to Riverside I think…
Can you get the beignets anywhere else or am I going to have to go on a hotel hopping mission to get those ?! 🤣🤣
