Hi Sabrina! Welcome to the Midwest. That course looks fun. I feel your pain. My goal was to score even before the end of the year but the best I could do was two rounds of +1 back in September. There always seems to be that one hole where I blow it up. Anyway, looking forward to your next one.

OK Sabrina, since you asked. 7 Wood. Basically a 5 wood from the 80's. Most will have noticed by now that even numbered woods have disappeared. What happened is the odd numbered woods squished together to fill those gaps. 4 woods are rare now, and 6 woods never really took off as a concept. A 7 wood is now often the "3rd" or high lofted wood in a lot of bags, doing the same job the 5 wood used to do in the late 60's-early 70's before it became the 2nd wood in the 70's-90's with the disappearance of 4 woods. Long shots from the fairway with high carry and soft landing. Most 7 woods are around the same loft as old 70's90's 5 woods, about 20-21 degrees. Some people call them utility woods, especially if they have special "railer" soles for hitting out of rough. Some more average swing speed golfers - low 80's to about 90 mph - carry regular soled 7's as their 2nd wood, dropping either the 3 wood or 5 wood, and carry either a 4 hybrid or a 9 wood to do that "3rd wood" longer high soft shot job, with a loft of around 23 or 24 degrees.
So for a 7 wood, generally think around 2 or 3 clubs longer than a 5 iron, depending on your swing speed and impact style. Think 15-30 yards shorter than your 3 wood, again depending on swing speed. For many with slower swing speeds, (think 80 mph or slower), their 2nd wood is probably the longest club they can hit off the deck and get well airborne. For some slow swing speed players, that might even be a 9 wood, not a 7, with either the 7 or 5 serving as a long wood/alternate tee club. Some might even carry an 11 wood as a 3rd, high carry wood. Or they may be more comfortable with 5 or 6 hybrids for that job. Set makeup can vary a lot, especially if you get your clubs custom tailored to you. There are a lot more options for that now than there used to be.
So that's it in a rather large, wordy nutshell. If someone who previously stopped their woods with a 5 decides tocarry a 7, after thoroughly testing it to see how long it goes and how high it flies, they'd probably drop either their 5 wood, or their longest iron or hybrid. Depends where the 7 wood fits amongst those clubs distance-wise. In your case, I dunno what you have between a 5 iron and a 5 wood. Never seen you hit anything longer than a 5 iron or shorter than a 3 wood. I'm sure you'll figure it out, though. No one shoots what you shoot without having a good grasp on what they need for their game.

Went back and looked at some old videos. I see a coupla Titleist hybrids, a 3 (19 degree) and 4 (23). But you didn't have a 5 wood then. So presumably you have either dropped the longer hybrid or decided not to carry the 5, so you can keep all 4 of your wedges. The 7 would probably fall somewhere in between the 5 wood and the remaining hybrid in distance. It'll probably hit higher and land softer than the old 19 degree hybrid. But testing will tell you which it might replace, 5 wood or hybrid, if it replaces either. Depends on what kinda shots it gives you, and how you'd like to use them. I'm sure you'll figure it out in short order.

My Mizuno 5 w is turned up to a 7... more like a 6 wood. Needed more gap between 3-5 since they were pretty close. So, i would 100% play a 7 wood.

A 7 wood is probably between 20-22 degrees of loft equivalent to roughly a 4 hybrid or a 3 iron according to the internet and I don't see any reason why you cannot go on holiday for an entire season if you feel like it. I don't think slope indicator is allowed in competitions.

Is that an old 7? :) Most 7 woods since the early-mid 2000's have been 22 degrees or less. Nowadays usually 20-21. Usually now the 24 degree club is the 9 wood, or some kind of hybrid. But there are lots of brands and lots of designs, so it wouldn't surprise me if you said you got it recently. The number on the bottom of the club doesn't matter anyway. What counts is it is higher loft and lower centre of gravity, making it easier to get airborne, even from light rough. And it's likely shorter than your other woods, making it easier to control. Probably you find it a pretty reliable club, yes?

I have a 20 degree 7 wood, but I never put it in the bag. The gap between my 23 degree hybrid and 16.5 degree 4 wood is not that big, so I don't really need it.

@@seanbaines I had a TaylorMade r11 4 wood which I replaced last year with a Titleist Tsi2. Both great clubs. The Tsi2 4 wood is a bit smaller than the 3 woods you can buy these days, and it's shorter. I can hit this from the deck no problem.
@@kooijbas That's why I carry one. The extra loft, combined with the low and back centre of gravity let me get it airborne with my sketchy swing and mid 80's swing speed, (probably low 80's now. I'm getting into my senior years, and I haven't played more than a few times a year in more than a decade. No time.🙁). I use it as an alternate driver, and when I have a good lie and a need for distance, without having to worry too much about consequences if I stray off line. I use the 7 wood for most of my fairway and rough wood shots, especially when I need it to be straight.

Fun vid Sabrina. I don’t think that Lab putter is right for you. You yank that thing inside on the forward swing about 2/3 of the time. Those putters are for straight back and straight through putters. You are a swing putter. Would probably feel better with a more blade style putter than a mallet or one of these monster contraptions.
I see what you’re saying but on the contrary I’ve been making SOOO many putts with it ! I think it’s actually good for me because it helps me not take it so much inside!
