Y’all, the owner of this proto is a 17 y.o kid that went to Fundays with his mom. I sat next to him and saw him open the box with this proto, and a dragon ball z proto. He didn’t bring a ‘fake’ nor did he try and scam anyone. He was given a wonky proto by Funko. Now he’s getting dragged cause of people thinking they’ve seen every proto ever given out and/or are paint masters. (Not just you, but in the Facebook post as well).
Its great to hear you were there to witness the opening of the proto. We've been wondering a lot about this and we hoped that someone wouldn't bring a fake to Fundays. Side note, we would never drag him. We were more focused on what the heck happened because this situation seemed very stranger across the board. Hopefully, he's not getting beat up because it isn't right; especially if its real. This video wasn't to bash anyone but to discuss a topic we thought would be interesting.
A colored version of gluttony also made its appearance during this fundays so it's possible that this might be a legit prototype or it's a huge coincidence because the prototype wasn't available before Fundays.
I've seen action figure prototype that are totally different colors. Some manufacturers just use whatever extra plastics they have around to make protos. I've seen prototypes with pink plastic and there's no pink at all in the figure.
I've delt in toys for over 40 years now and can say to me it looks like a Paint Test done on a Proto that was made out of Red Vinyl which well have light areas in it depending on the thickness in the area or if other vinyl was mixed like white, but again it's about the Paint here which it looks 100% like a TEST SHOT look how many different layers there is on the front its not same as the back and then look at the tongue area and missing the neck area is common just like the back side of the tongue its not 100% sprayed. But in the end I wasn't not at the event and didn't see it given out myself so and today we have scumbags willing to do anything for a buck if it brings them enough.
Yeah, that is what we were thinking also. It looks like some sort of test. However, we do not put it past someone to spray paint a figure and try to sell it off as if it were a proto :/ unfortunate but true!
@@GastlecastRight I agree I think that this Proto should be Numbered wouldn't be hard for Funko to take a hot stamp and push it into the vinyl to authenticate them they are 1 of 1 and if not again wouldn't be hard to have a few stamps. Think this would be the best way to handle this issue be like giving them SS numbers just like graded comics get a serial number that can be looked up and validated!!!
With the white spray paint, the red vinyl underneath and the random lines it looks like a 3D printed pop that pieced together. Only my speculation but looks very dodgy to me. Maybe, in the future, if Funko are going to release prototypes, they could stamp the foot with the crown to legitimise them.
When my wife got a proto at wondercon waiting in line they had the names on a note attached to the bag. But i was at fundays and it was just a black bag in the box
My test to see if the Gluttony proto is real, would be to scratch the red part under the head to see if the red is raw plastic OR another layer of paint. I think the base color of the head of the real POP is the tanned skin color, so if the proto's plastic is anything other then that tan, its authentic for sure. For testing purposes it could have been a mold in the red just at random, and the designer wanted to more clearly see the shapes so they sprayed it white which will have much more visible shading than bright red. The body I believe is dark brown plastic, with the arms being painted skin color, which is clearly visible on the real pop as the skin tones are slightly different due to the difference of raw vinyl vs paint coloring. I couldn't find a photo of the bottom of the foot of the real figure, but the proto has no embossed information there, so that would be something to compare as well.
@@AlfTenner The solid color vinyl underneath the paint being not tan for the head or brown for the body... is ABSOLUTELY a tell that it's a real proto, unless it's an entirely custom molded fake which I highly doubt given the specific figure it is, brand new (2024) and not desirable yet.
I've never owned a proto, but shouldn't the figure also have the Funko stamp on the foot? That figure didn't have any identifying manufacturing marks on it.
Don’t know much about protos but aren’t most protos’ different parts made of the main vinyl color for that body area? Meaning wouldn’t the torso/legs come in black and the head in flesh color for the proto in question. Just wondering. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
are the proto boxes sealed? he could have swapped the piece out before sitting at the table or wherever. Then opens it in front of the crowd to make it look it was real
Were there multiple of these going around at fundays? I saw a guy offering this same proto and a dbz one up for trade/sale but didn’t notice any of these paint marks.
I think when it comes to Proto’s givin away at events they should come with a funko authenticity paper/form and special case with proto sticker to ensure that the item is 1000% authentic so cases like this can’t happen
Maybe? But then they could be possibly damaging a true proto. The problem is, we don't know if this is a true proto or not yet. We would love to see confirmation.
The universal monsters drop is okay. Like you, I think the Freddy as Dr Frankenstein is the best. The other redeemables are okay but there are so many Frankenstein and Bride Pops that they aren’t really that special.
