Dear Paula, this is a great topic! I am a teacher in Germany and I am back and forth with this. I usually carry my non designer school tote or backpack and an additional small handbag from a mid range brand like Coach or Polene and sometimes Chloe. I have some female collegues who really like and appreciate nice bags and they also carry nice bags like Chloe to school. It has become a running gag to spot each other „Which bag are you carrying today?“. Some think I am crazy but the majority does not care or recognize them at all. Sometimes I even took a low key LV bag with me. But my students are well aware! And sometimes they say „Nice bag!“ „Is this authentic?“ „What did it cost?“, not out of disrespect, they like it. But it makes me worry a lot if one not so nice would steal from me. So it is kind of stressful that I always have to have an eye on my bag. But it is worth it to me, because I love my bag companions so much, they make my day. So my advice would be: Try it and start some girl talk about it!

Congratulations on your new job Poola 🥳 - I‘ve been wearing luxury bags to work, ever since I started as a Junior. Might have even affected me negatively in the past, when I worked in a quite toxic environment.. where I‘m at now, nobody seems to care - luckily!
Thank you! In the end that’s how I think as well: that we should wear what ever we want and if someone desides to let it affect them then it’s their problem 😅
Great topic , I am at the point in my life I don't really care what the other people think , I have never had a really high paying job ( nurse ) but I worked hard for my money and I saved and bought a few over the years that I still have and wear proudly ( no Chanel or Hermes ). There seems to be a lot of shame surrounding a woman buying a designer bag but not so much around a man buying a Rolex watch instead of a Timex or a sportscar instead of a sedan .

I’m from Sweden and have a long career in different fields and have always used my bags to work. Nobody has told me that my bags are wrong in any way. My bags is a part of me and if someone have an opinion it’s up to them. One time I left a Gucci mini in a conference room and I got it back in an instant because everyone knew it was mine. Be the proud bearer of your bags 🤗
How nice! Thank you for sharing! I’ve always felt that everyone should be themselves and wear whatever they want to work (of course in ’normal’ limits) but in this new place it kind of made me think differently 😅
Juicy topic! I totally get what you mean. While most people wouldn't regocnize if you wear a designer bag or not, this is different because your boss wears them too. I would be cautious at least. Your boss might get jealous that you are wearing a more expensive bag than she is! But I guess you'll learn about her character soon 😆

I think it’s a female thing more than a cultural one. We feel like we would be judged. But also, I think it’s tricky in the workplace because people will start to question your income and lifestyle , etc.
You might be right! I’ve felt before that if someone wants to question my income or lifestyle that their problem but somehow now I feel a bit different 😅
