Just a hint, if you warm up your wax so that it's soft like putty and rub it into the seams where the canvas is sewn together, it gets even more waterproof.
"You see how fast it disappear... the white stuff?" XD But seriously, this is quite smart. It's a cheaper alternative to the (super)hydrophobic (and occasionally, also oleophobic) coating sprays.
My feet have been wet for so many years, I used to cry at night because my feet were wet, then my tears would make my feet even wetter. it was a vicious circle which I couldn't escape from. Sometimes I wondered if waterproofing even existed, I thought it was just some kind of folklore created by ancient native american tribes. I used to sometimes scream and shout, then Julie left. It was 14th November 2005, I just got back from the annual paddling pool festival in Nebraska, and once again my feet were wet. Wetter than ever. She told me it was over, she'd had enough, there was someone else, he had dry feet. I was left crushed and alone. Until the 30th November 2014, when I found this video. Now my flip flops are stronger than ever and my feet have stayed dry. Life is so much better now, my wife came back and we have 3 wonderful children (two of which are at Harlem community college the other is at Oxford (Brookes). We also have 2 dogs a cat and an alpaca (called Al, would you believe?!). There is no end to happiness and I owe it all to the big man up there- crazy russian hacker, oh and God. I realise now that the one should not judge a man by the dryness of his feet, but by the warmness of his heart. Thank you. You'll never know how much you mean to me Julie
the first thing you learn when you join mountaineers association is about how to make your shoes waterproof but instead of rubbing candle on the shoes you melt paraffin and pour it into the shoe and then pour the excess out. i have one pair made this way 10 years ago and they are still waterproof.
This method of waterproofing footwear has been around for ages, though the wax method is normally done with natural beeswax rather than petroleum-based paraffin wax (typical candle wax).
Help? I used this method and it worked great but ever since I used it, I can only walk on water. My shoes don't work on the ground. This makes it a tiny bit difficult to do basic things, I cant go to work, I cant go and pee, I cant even walk over to my computer to go and type this comment. Is anyone else having this problem?? Thanks
This might be helpful for a marathon in warm conditions, where you'd have to spill tons of drinking water on top of your body while running. Last time I did that, my shoes were wet, my socks were wet, and I finished a marathon with blisters.
Waterproof means the shoes are watertight and water cannot get in the shoes. Water resistant means it will resist water when water is poured over it. These shoes would be water resistant
Really GREAT to know this! and also MUCH cheaper than the "waterproofing spray" that I spent $6.00 on. I enjoy your channel, you have many great ideas!! Thanks!!
Bumbaleena xo it seems to only be ok for one colored canvas shoes like black tan grey or white I wouldn’t try it on any crazy designs or different fabrics like synthetic leather or fur or uggs just get the waterproof spray for them
people that keep saying shit because he has an accent.... His name is even called CrazyRUSSIANhacker... (Logic) Stop hating. He already knows he has an accent and I think it makes the video even better...
You know water proof sprayer works better and last longer and is probably the same price as that candle and also it take 2 seconds to do and does not require heat or anything
In a survival situation the last thing you are going to care about is whether you get your shoes wet. These tips should be treated as day to day life conveniences and not survival tips.
Oh my God! When I saw the imposter at the beginning I thought " where is my lovely Russian Hacker?" Great hack. I have some expensive Converse trainers and want to wear them out in the British autumn (possible chance of rain me thinks). I shall use your hack, not forgetting "Safety First" Love your accent (Luke is cute too) x
You can let the shoe dry off and then put more wax on the place where the water went in after the first wax treatment. Obviously that place on the front of the shoe did not get enough wax the first time, so you put on more, and then it will keep the water out better. But if it is me, I will chose some shoes that don't have the round holes in the side to let the air in for cooling the feet, because these holes will also let in the water and then there is no reason for waterproofing this kind of shoes anyway. American hikers have been doing something like this, but instead of wax they are using silicone sprays. There was also an expensive product from the company Krylon; it is called "Never Wet." Candle wax probably works just as good and it is cheaper.
+_ Justinlbdr _ more people would search water proof shoes rather than resistant proof because half the people in the world don't have great vocabulary.
I just LMAO!! reading these comment's XD... Anyone..that has been born in the last 200 years know wax RUINS material. ONLY use this method on fabric shoes. NEVER!! EVER!! Rub a wax stick on your $300 Jordan s XD.. that will just ruin them. Use this method say if its a rainy day and you don't care about ruining your $40 work shoes. Shoes are MADE to be wet, dry, dirty, clean and everything else. water doesn't ruin shoes. Wax ruins shoes. Hahaha wow these comments made my day thank you.
lmao I scrolled down to read some comments before the video actually started and I heard a different voice. I was like "what the hell happened to his accent?" good video though :)
I just spray Camp Dry silicate on my shoes and let it set for 24 hrs 😂 works so much better. However, this method is very innovative and decent for it's cost. Props dude.
shane44567 waterproof = no water goes in at all. Water resistant = water will not go in for a period of time, but after a while water will seep in. K buddy? Maybe you should make sure your facts are straight before you comment.
silicone caulking thinned in mineral spirits and brushed on works good, both are good, both last a long time. They last longer on things that don't go through the laundry and dryer, like backpacks.
@@shantalmichiel2051 the humidity would still be retained in the socks instead of leaving the shoes through the canvas as these breathable designs tend to allow.
Make sure you use scented candles so your shoes smell good too ... on the outside that is. I bet they would smell worse inside after this because this will trap the stanky foot stench in since they will no longer breathe from the wax coating so you will also need a pair of odor eaters.
One of the most useful hacks ever! Thanks so much for sharing CRH!
Thank you!!!

funny how something just drops and he looks at it and then continues talking lol
would you rather he stop the video and pick it up? lol
I was expecting him to say "Shiit" then cut-clip and try again
Steven Wright That would have been hilarious! Lol
You could just wear appropriate shoes for rain. You could also spray them with silicone shoe spray which will do a much better job.
MarioThaMonkey "Cheers mate" Are you British? Does your government know you're talking about guns? eh? I just dont want you to get into any trouble.
Wow, racist...

I want to hang out and drink vodka with this guy..

Fun & informative. Thanks to the 5 of you. You, Steve, The hair dryer, the candle & the shoe.
One of your most useful videos in a while. Thanks!
Really GREAT to know this! and also MUCH cheaper than the "waterproofing spray" that I spent $6.00 on. I enjoy your channel, you have many great ideas!! Thanks!!
son, i know you dont use it, but u should know that its called a blow dryer :P
I'm scared I'll mess up my shoes, I wonder what materials this is not okay for
Bumbaleena xo it seems to only be ok for one colored canvas shoes like black tan grey or white I wouldn’t try it on any crazy designs or different fabrics like synthetic leather or fur or uggs just get the waterproof spray for them
awkward moment when your waterproof shoes have holes in the side.
All Star, I see your point
true cuz it just slides right in on the waterproof one not the one that is not waterproof because it was avoiding the holes!
people that keep saying shit because he has an accent.... His name is even called CrazyRUSSIANhacker... (Logic) Stop hating. He already knows he has an accent and I think it makes the video even better...
Amen.
i don't get them, i started watching more because of his accent. it's awesome lol.

Daniella Sirleaf He isnt talking about you.
You know water proof sprayer works better and last longer and is probably the same price as that candle and also it take 2 seconds to do and does not require heat or anything
You must be either rich or lazy or boring or a mixture of those to say that.
Well.. candles shouldnt be as hard as sprayers to find in a survival situation :)
ArtCraft Builder and where do you find the hairdryer? on trees?
ArtCraft Builder Why would you need to waterproof anything for survival?
In a survival situation the last thing you are going to care about is whether you get your shoes wet. These tips should be treated as day to day life conveniences and not survival tips.

Does it work
Im guessing this would only apply to shoes of fabric like right? I woukd do them on my nikes, but need a second thought
crni195 Genius*
i just tested it and it works on ANY shoe =D
well the worst shoe in a rainy day is an all-star really :) would be more useful there i guess :)

0:33 - 0:38 :D :D :D best part :D of video
Can I do the same thing with my phone
Try x))
if u have a IPhone, yes, u must to have this :)
Lol no the wax will get inside or something..
No it won't work for an PHOUN BEC it can get inside and it can cus your PHOUN to stop BEC of the wax
+Lizzybbear RUclips Gamer can you wash off the wax
I got one question.……………WHAT ARE THOSEEEEEEE!!!!?
Wouldn't the wax attract more dust making the shoe get dirtier faster?
3:53 "Its not waterproof, its water resistant." Then... why did you make the title "How to Make Your Shoes Waterproof"?
So he can tell in the video that it's not :)
Just to piss you off.
I like cookies
Good point
I feel like you would sweat a lot in those shoes
Very Creative though!
+Brotherhooded well if you were going through the snow or heavy rain, then you would probably want them to be hot lol
I feel like he lied and said it was waterproof and then at the end says it's water resistant
+Mike Luby waterproof means it cannot be soaked up, but water resistant means the water falls off. which in this case, its water resistant.
+_ Justinlbdr _ more people would search water proof shoes rather than resistant proof because half the people in the world don't have great vocabulary.

Great idea!!! You could use silicone but its expensive & needs to be reapplied!!!
yayaya this is Great idea Nancy Graham
He has probably just revealed the secret ingredient to the product 'NeverWet' aha😂😉
ok but why does he have an hairdryer?
he's bald.
He has a Beard
Hairdryers can be used in many creative projects due to its ability to melt things like wax quickly.
for experiments
He has a wife and kid
killerkamikaze NO!
I just spray Camp Dry silicate on my shoes and let it set for 24 hrs 😂 works so much better. However, this method is very innovative and decent for it's cost. Props dude.

it destroyed my shoes ... thanks a lot
You should hav tried it on the cheapest shoe u had

silicone caulking thinned in mineral spirits and brushed on works good, both are good, both last a long time. They last longer on things that don't go through the laundry and dryer, like backpacks.
Does it cause the feet to sweat more or overheat due to the clogged pores filled with wax?
wear socks
@@shantalmichiel2051 the humidity would still be retained in the socks instead of leaving the shoes through the canvas as these breathable designs tend to allow.
Better than having soaked wet feet
Superb.. I was thinking something like this.
I wonder if this means that they stay clean as well... Because it's hard to imagine how I could wash sneakers that reject water =]
yeah >_> I wonder that too
Great video guys, I love it.... The beginning was funny, the candle trick does work Also, I love your accent.
Make sure you use scented candles so your shoes smell good too ... on the outside that is. I bet they would smell worse inside after this because this will trap the stanky foot stench in since they will no longer breathe from the wax coating so you will also need a pair of odor eaters.
Would this work for vans????
Can you make waterproof shirts with this.
That was very helpful. I have a nasty creek behind my house and I have a $75 pair of shoes and now I can WATERPROOF THEM!!!
just don't get your shoes caught on fire!
it's the wick that lights on fire, the wax just keeps it from burning too fast.
The wax does burn, the wick controls how the wax burns through capillary action.
Jimmy Hough well i bet you looked THAT one up!
John Stanton hahaha I'm going to start using this line. Thanks John!
Actually I did not, but I'm pretty sure of what I'll find if I do. Maybe I'll make a video setting some wax on fire.

i wish i saw this earlier since my shoes were soaked when i was outside in the snow lol i ended up freezing my feet off....
Or you can use the waterproofing sprays.
In a survival situation where would you plug in the hair dryer?
If u were in a survival situation i dont think you'd be to worried about having water proof shoes... /:
Do you even carry a hair dryer?
***** Put the shoes to dry on direct sun and the wax will melt into the shoe.... takes longer but does the job.
***** Just rub the wax on the shoes in a survival situation, I'd assume. Not need to melt them right away, unless they're in direct sun.
If you were in a survival situation, I think waterproof shoes would be the least if your worries
For some reason your voice activated my “hey siri” when you said “you see” 😂😂
I used a pink candle... thanks for that.
do you use hair blower?
