      I understand the sentiment but as someone who came from street fighter, I've been really enjoying the difference in pacing in strive. I don't really want the damage to be more similar to street fighter. For me strive is a more fast paced, momentum driven fighter and while the neutral in sf6 is still fun, it has a lot more of a mental stack. In strive I only have to worry about high/low mixup or a potential burst bait. In sf6, I worry about the same things but now there's throw loop mixups, drive impact, perfect parry. I guess I'm talking about the mixup game or is that also neutral?? 🤔

      @@brainpaint43 yeah I agree, GG imo has been intended to be a fast paced game where matches go by before you can realize. The problem with slayer is that his win con is getting a hit, which Invalidates having to even try to play.

    I agree a 10% flat dmg reduction would do something at least cause right now . Slayer just murders u when gets that 1-2 touches . It’s funny that they can nerf some supers like jack-Os but can’t nerf the absurd dmg that some characters can pump out

    I love strive but I've always wanted to see a version of it with lesser damage. Sol having to win 4 interactions would be my base-line on how I want damage to scale.

    I do think damage is too high, for sure. Honestly, the best way to deal with it IMO is to simply increase damage scaling so anything outside of a hard callout CH does on average less damage. You could also just add significantly more HP to each character so its not as much of a pain in the ass to update all of the combo data to represent the new damage values.

      i personally really like the idea of just more health on everyone, i love playing this game and it’d be great if i could actually do that more instead of dying or winning off of like 1 or 2 interactions

      If the guts values are too strong, nerf them to compensate.

    I wouldn't even say that big damage is a problem, but how easy it is to achieve it. You could also do 80% combos back in +R, but they were much more situational and much harder to execute (e.g. no slowdown on counter hits so you don't ever miss your confirm).

    I actually feel this a lot with asuka. I often kill my enemy before I get to finish doing my setup I was planning for the whole match. Exodia means nothing if a stray 2D roman cancel will kill them anyway. The most fun matchups I have played in guilty gear were all low damage characters like Ino vs Millia

    I am so happy that a strive player is talking about this anytime I bring this up people just tell me it is apart of the game and I need to deal with it but competitively it can be so unfun I want to play more neutral and I want to learn from my mistakes but any hit I take is just death and GGST is the only fighting game where I feel very scared to block due to how much BS this game is and the high damage of this game in SF6 or Granblue I never feel like blocking is a bad thing I enjoy how defense works but due to strives BS and high damage I often say blocking means you are losing in strive which is just kinda true I VERY often feel like even if I am better than someone if they get me on defense I just die so it becomes a game of who blocks first.
    Strive is also the only fighting game where I feel like it is very hard to adapt and learn from your mistakes since there are fewer interactions and a lot of BS you really just have to learn how to deal with the BS and do your high damage stuff first but that is not really fun competitively, Casually oh yeah Strive is fun you are able to turn your brain off and do dumb stuff but when trying to get better I find it very hard to adapt and to see what mistakes I did so that I can stop them for next time.

    Yep, this has always been the biggest issue with the game IMO. Super fun, but 95% of your time is watching a wall break transition or dealing with the garbage lobbies. LET ME PLAY THE GAME.

    I have to agree with the title. Im a Nago main and I started playing Chipp recently. I was expecting a major damage consistency drop like there should be between a Squishy Rush down and a Slow Power character. But there's really not one lmao still consistent 2-3 shots 💀

    Damage scaling could be increased for certain moves. Like sure, if I mash on a cS and get CH I deserve to explode, no issues there.
    But it's hard to say the same when a Slayer gets the bright idea to mash 2H after their turn ends since most of his pressure enders, bar Pilebunker, leaves him pretty safe at -1 or -2 so he can mash 2H as long as he's out of 5P/2P range and low crush 2K attempts. It's pretty silly for a big combo starter to be 5f-10f low crush, low strike with pretty good range thanks to the long disjoint hitbox.

    You hit Slayer - he got tension
    Tension = huge damage
    so basically, fighting against huge HP and Huge damage character is just about investion in your own death.

    If you want more interactions before you die you could try Xrd and +R. You can still get two touched but it takes very specific situations.

      Yeah once hc gets that open he is doing like 40% Max with super, if you watch the slayer match I build risc get open super wallbreak 40% slayer then cs combos me 80%, if I sit in a hc string the reward from the hit is minimal some characters though = die

    As an Axl player, I'm convinced that Slayer is up there with Millia, Chipp, May and Ram as an absolutely abysmal matchup. I'm zoning this guy out for 30 seconds, he gets half meter, I can't commit to rensen or tornado anymore because of super mappa, so I just have to use committal pokes against one of the highest health, highest damage characters in the game who also happens to have multiple ways to skip neutral. Pure pain

    I still can't believe they just gave Slayer a Millia-like oki in Strive. Sure, he had oki in xrd but that game had more (and better) defensive options that could guarantee your safety when used correctly, unlike shield in Strive. Not to mention his S+ tier mix-up tool (aka dandy step) and neutral skip (mappa j) and his damage, this character feels like a cruel joke nobody but Daisuke understands.

    i'd agree to a sol nerf where they nerf clean hit HVV damage from 35+100 to 35+85 or something. He can still be high damage but slightly less silly

    I couldnt agree more, the HC slayer mu is so painful as hc, I will compeltely dominate the entire round just for a slayer to ch 2h me once and deal 90% of my healthbar

      What's worse is that you can't even play around it with 214s because his super gets you for free and goes through clone too, so the counterplay is to either get close where he can snipe you with 2h or k mappa or not play at all hoping to bait his super

      I'd like to add from the Slayer side it's pathetic as well. He touches you once - you don't play the game till you guess right against FKING hc. And then you pray you have meter because ain't no way you are connecting heavy buttons against hc

    Totally agree. I was struggling to keep at floor 10 with Baiken and I just wanted to try Goldlewis so I learned a couple basic combos and got to it. I was fighting the same oponents with even less effort. High damaging characters have a lot of advantage over the others and I don't really see Arc Sys tries to balance this.

    DPRC got removed, but to balance it out, DP's are now invincible against grabs. You can no longer grab someone on wakeup if they DP.
    As a Bridget, my damage is ass, so I'm constantly doing setplays instead of damage combo's. I do so much effort for a drop of blood, then I fuck up once against slayer or pot and 80% of my HP is removed instantly. :(
    So your argument is present for my character, but not across the board.

    I feel this so so so much.
    This game got me into fighting games again but as much as I absolutely love this game to pieces I can't play it right now because I'm not getting enough chances to learn what I did wrong because on top of the speed of the game, I die in 2 strings.
    "Get good" I know, but it's hard to when I'm not getting enough chances to learn in my matches.
    I picked up GBVSR and I'm learning so much more because it doesn't really ha e these problems to this degree, so I'm hoping I can come back one day when I'm better.

    i also agree. The damage is pretty insane. I play Ramlethal, and even against someone dangerous like Nago if I get a single good hit to convert into rekka the match is basically won once I have them in the corner. Even better if i block their Burst. At that point the games over. Either I'm just pressing buttons until they die, or they are, and I'm dead. The fun of footsies and pokes goes away too fast

    I love playing Slayer and it sucks when it is assumed it's because of the damage.

    I enjoy his design, mixup potential with dandy step, the K mappa from across the screen, 2D oki options, and doing the goofy air slash into dust.
    Please, nerf his damage and anyone else with this problem because I want to do these other things more.

      @@Raynfgc while true HC pressure is mostly fake taking your guess against him is not worth it. If he touches you it's a wallbreak, he has positive and you are HKDed. Same against ram in the corner, same against slayer. We HAVE options but the risk is just too high

      ​im a faust player and i see his problems, 1:forward dandy all attack grabbed even pilebunker, 2:if its zoner u dead instantly k mappa are punishable as hell if its not connect with opponent, 3:dp counter all d.step and 4: cross up are after blocking masters hammer are throwable plus u can just mash punch if its d.step forward if its backwards u just 5k it that's all you win slayer, ah forgot something his backdash are shit @@Raynfgc

    Even when playing one of the lower damage per hit characters like Bridget, when I started learning how to get long combos of hits, which is a lot easier once you start using wild assault, I started noticing characters fold pretty quickly, when Slayer first came out I was surprised that he had the same health as Sol because before I learnt how to do combos getting any damage felt like a chore. I'd probably agree there needs to be a damage reduction across most attacks, but some overdrives might be good to leave untouched to make them more worth it since some combo heavy characters don't have much of a reason to use their overdrive outside of wallbreak for hard knockdown

    I do certainly agree that there needs to be damage nerfs I think that for some characters like Axl will rapidly loose players in mid to low ranks IMO. I think that it will be due to the decreased reward for his already high risk with his moves being pretty negative on block unless strung together well. That’s just what I think as someone that’s trying to improve as Axl

    I will say, this is a problem in other fighting games as well. Some games will feel pretty close because an opponent gets a lot more value off a lucky hail mary than you do off playing strategically, but i have felt this problem in Strive more than anywhere else because of the high damage. Every game is either i perfect the opponent, or the opponent perfects me, and there's no in between.

    I think that's always been my issue when it comes to damage in strive. People tend to point out older GGs have also had high damage but then point to clips of Slayer or High Risc to prove their point and I just roll my eyes. In strive, there is no special requirement, a single hit can net a good 50% easy and as you've pointed out in this video, that just leaves one interaction until you're telling yourself "Ah on to the next match" before the combo even reaches halfway

      We are not about to pretend characters like order so,l aba, normal sol, johnny, and zappa depending on the summon, didn't delete health bars regardless of risc. Yes, the hit you land matters but it's not exclusively high risc/slayer = life bar gone. I think what you shoulda mentioned instead is the high damage required good execution where as in strive it's almost always not the case, that I agree with.

    100% agreed. I play a character with low damage as well, and when playing against slayer, sol, nago, etc. I often find that I'm winning neutral, they're guessing wrong and I'm guessing right like 5 times in a row, and then they guess right one time and now *I* have to guess for game. it feels like hitting slayer and giving him meter just makes it easier for him to blow you up when you do eventually make a mistake!
    and the burst system reinforces this. characters who have to win neutral multiple times to kill will probably break the wall more and hit the opponent more, which gives them more burst. meanwhile characters who kill you in 2 touches don't really need to think about the burst economy because if they wallbreak you its because you're dying.

    i am new to fighting games and this was really something annoying but what can i do if i hate slayer then i hat pot then i hate elphelt i will reach a point were would i hate the whole game so i start ignoring lately and just try to play with thinking about it .

    I think the footage showed sort of obliterates the point being made. HC is one of the strongest characters in the game and 1:14, he burns a meter to get motion in the air, gets a high crossup, runs up, is blocked, then does another mix-up and gets a knockdown, then overhead dust RC cancel which hits and gets nothing, then GL get's to hit him back and start his own offense.
    There were several interactions there on both sides there with lots for the defending player to do.
    Same with the slayer-HC matchup claim. The footage in the back actually has slayer landing those hits after many failed attempts at pressure. It very obviously isn't being 1 or even 2 shot or 3 shot. What you really mean is "It's a two combo game if he hits me with the most juicy opener possible", like some c.S counterhit at the right spacing for loops into wallbreak and has meter built.
    Yeah that sounds fair, considering half of his mixups are beaten by someone just mashing jab or 6P.
    Likewise, the claim that you aren't "playing the game" because if you get hit you take a lot of damage, implies the only real part of the game is "getting hit or hitting them". You maneuvering around their offense and you putting on your own pressure is the real game. All that time blocking and making them block is playing the game.

      First of all, HC isn't one of the strongest characters, he got nerf so much things that made him strong, now he has a very good pressure but has a terrible defense (really bad defense, almost have it), low damage and of course, it's hard to play
      For the other side, if Goldlewis get 1 hit and made a combo, do a lot of damage, maybe he kills you, the same with the real strongest characters like Sol, May, Nagoriyuki and others, Slayer and Potemkin a different cause they're not that strong but have so much damage that made ridiculous situations and you die after get hit 2 times in 1 round, maybe 1 hit is enough

      @@LuSamus HC has been high tier at his weakest and is currently considered top tier again because he likes the burst changes. He doesn't need to deal 60% off one hit when he can pressure you from fullscreen and turn that pressure into constant high/low/crossup/throw scenarios.

      Yeah for sure but a lot of the footage is sub optimal play as well, the hc is me dropping combos coz I'm bad but goldlewis getting big hits and not cycling the bt correctly also slayer had many points of getting a big hit like a counter hit close slash on roundstart but just drops. In every scenario that is 60%, off a roundstart 2d ch slayer can do 50% off a forward advancing sweep, while I agree the footage had a lot more interaction then what I'm describing. Those are the parts of the game I enjoy the offence and defence and in between. But if I do get hit losing 80% of my health which does happen in the video doesn't feel good as if I get hit again it's over hence the point of the video xD ty for comment

    I have been wishing for less damage from day one. Every time they add a change that seems like it would do that, they make another in the same patch that undoes it and ultimately maintains the status quo.

    I think they should adjust damage scaling of alot of these moves and combo extenders. Decrease minimum damage and such. Look at how some characters interact with how fast they wall stick when using certsin moves. I agree with everything in the video. Doing everything right and then getting "robbed" because crazy damage feels bad. I mean, the nature of guilty gear is that every character has BS but u just have to use yours more so they cant use theirs. This all being said, it definitely would make sense for more interactions or opportunities to fight back. That or we'd have to like make the game best 3 out of 5.

    To be honest I prefer dying by pot in 2 grabs than dying by sol and having to wait 40 seconds before the combo ends.
    Like I honestly hate long combos because to me neutral is the game. Unless, well, you play the game during combos, like in killer instinct, which I just love because nobody is ever standing still and waiting in that game. You are always playing it

    I understand how frustrating it can be playing a hard character and how making one mistake nullifies all your hard work, but i think its fine that guilty gear is a fast game with fast rounds. (If it's friendlies just play another match) I agree that neutral is the most interesting part of fighting games, but high damage is kinda what makes strive strive. May be 3-4 neutral interactions.

    Make moves deal less damage, but give characters more options to do combos. Some chars can already style on you, but most of the time you need to do some shit like c.S > 6H > special > pick up with something like 2K > 6H > WS > super
    Also make walls harder to break

    I feel like I get where you are coming from with this but I’m totally ok with the damage. As you said, if you make a mistake you die which is the ultimate punishment for making a mistake. It makes you have to take control of the pace of the game, learn the strings get the punishes and make the reads. I love it. Obviously I hate getting caught by pot when I’m playing milia lol

    I'm cool with Slayer, but only because all the Slayers I've come up against do full-screen Mappa, trying to skip neutral, so they get a face full of Testament 6P every time. Also a lot of what Slayer does is pretty linear and actually reactable. There's some double crossup BS ofc, but that's pretty spacing specific and nothing no one else can do (looking at you, Millia).

    Make wild assault across the board scale slightly more. Nerf damage by 8% then round up.
    Maybe compensate the characters most affected by it if they need it or could be more balanced noe that there damage is lower.

    Or just make every attack move the opponent farther away. I'm way more annoyed of the 10+ hits combos than the damage. In AC the opponent recovers faster with a high number of hits, here it's almost constant. Also, you never recover from wall bounce attacks making a high hit combo more likely.

    In season 3 I played a lot of Ramlethal but am diving into Happy Chaos now. With Ram, I feel like I just have to hit them with one c.S and I win. They never figured out how to counter me and I never got to see how they played. With HC, matches last longer because HC has lower damage from his nerfs and he controls neutral. If every character had nerfs similar to Happy Chaos in their damage, I feel like the game would flow better for sure

    Nice video. I don’t think the 2XKO example is that relevant because it is a team game that has many different ways to tag out your point character and heal and people haven’t really explored the defensive option of the game. Being as generous as possible, you have to 2 touch each character to win a round, so 8 interactions minimum to win a game, and those 8 hits have to be decent starters with assists and meter available. Meanwhile in strive, you can legitimately win an entire round off one interaction. You take a couple throws and guess wrong and eat a close slash? Dead

    I think you are right, i just started playing like 2 weeks ago even though i got the game a month ago, but i started to play Jack o and Aba, and when my friend that helped me practice the game, he is very good like universes better than me i couldnt do much with jack o maybe just maybe a steal a round, but with abba i just win with 2 interactions on jealousy rage and steal games from him more easily, he is still beat my complete butt with a universal bonk but not as much with aba

    idk why the modern fg devs have the mindset that new players will have more fun if you make the big number combos easier when in reality it makes it worse for a new player because you lose 2 interactions and the rounds over. sf6 has plenty of 60/70% combos too, strive is definitely worse but this mentality of high damage = fun is so wrong

    If we'd to nerf slayer I'd say reduce the damage on non PB loops and make k mappa -3 or -4. Tho judging by the fact that slayer was out for 3 month before the balance patch and the patch indirectly buffed him I'd say arcsys don't rly wanna nerf him

    Without resources or items, his damage isn't great. In order to do good damage tho, he actually has to play very well and use his meter effectively

    The damage in guilty gear strive always been a issue to me, you do so little, all the combos are extremely easy in this game and even 5 good hits do a good chunk of damage with any characters in this game and the whole round is over in 2-3 interactions and then they remove dp Rc and further limit things that made the game either more fun or made you have to work more to do things. The overall damage that everyone does should be reduced slightly not greatly just slightly at least then it will feel like there’s more chances to play the game. The game is fun but as you said it gets boring and kinda fast and for its especially if you keep winning because I know all I did was land a hit twice or a counter hit once and then a stray

    It's an issue with the game as a whole. It being a high damage game. getting 1-2 touched and games end in 10-20 seconds max. I only have hope for the next GG game. I hope we never go back to the current state and go to something similar to BB or Xrd.

    If strive has a damage problem then every guilty gear also has a damage problem. I will say Slayers damage in particular needs to be toned down. But the game itself I don’t believe has a damage “problem” in the sense that it doesn’t need to be universally fixed. You’re speaking on this as if it’s a not a universal tendency for these types of games but only unique to strive and 2xko. I’m sorry I know what you said in the intro but when you pick up these types of games this is what you’re signing up for. It makes the stakes bigger because you know if you make the wrong move you could potentially lose the round completely maybe change your perspective on how you look at it. The 2xko points unfortunately are even worse because this is truly the nature of the beast when it comes to team fighters. Have you ever seen a mvc3 match? In closing it just seems like you’re complaining about Indian food being spicy when you don’t have to eat Indian food.

    The game doesn't have a damage problem, Slayer has a damage problem. Just reduce his damage. The game has already gone through a number of damage reduction patches but Slayer is playing like its season 2 again

    As a millia player, I felt this in my absolute SOUL. sick n tired of getting all these sick ass set ups just to guess wrong once and lose the game; ALSO as a millia player, though, a flat damage reduction across the board would mean that lower damage characters such as millia have to get even MORE interactions than they already need to win a game. If that's balanced in your mind then fair play but I already have to work a lot harder than most to really win and I feel like that would only exacerbate that problem further.

      Playing vs Millia feels like you are playing slots and once you get right on one of their like 20/20/20/20/20's you get to do 50 and have to gamble again.

    im ngl, the bullshit of strive is nowhere near as oppressive as the bullshit of xrd, +r, or any other older fg.
    But i do agree that strive has a tendency to be ridiculously explosive. The game can be lost off of whiffing a 2S, which can feel downright awful a lot of the time.
    I just dont think theres really a solution, because it's baked into the design of how strive plays in comparison to its predecessors. There's just less to do during interaction, the pressure is oppressive but you have less options to get out, theres less to do in neutral, theres just less overall. So if you lower the damage, that would become more apparent, and matches would begin to drag on because the rps becomes so obvious.

    i think worst than damage the execution is too low not saying it should be harder but other fighters i play going for higher damage is higher execution which means if you drop youre at a disadvantage which i know once mastered you wont drop but guilty gear i dont have to know how to play a character i random pick press slash slash heavyslash special and it always works always does 50%

      Not sure maybe parry/getup works but I think the projectile continues to exist as you hit/knock them back so u get hit anyway
