Thank you Ms. Kristen - I loved you when I was a young boy watching "Lost In Space" and I love seeing what a classy, intelligent, thoughtful woman you are today!
I am 62 and still have very fond memories of watching this show as a child, and it still holds up today. Color TV was new so all the shows played with the primary colors and we children loved it and I loved everything Irwin Allen, still do...
No kidding! She's gorgeous. What a shame that she didn't have more of a career. Just hearing her talk, she seems like she could have developed into a good, successful actress. Probably just the curse of being in a show like Lost in Space. It's probably hard to be taken seriously after something like that.
@@dougwylie1906 She has 42 acting credits, 29 of them after LoS. And that’s only TV and movies. She’s appeared in several theatre productions, which really is her passion as far as acting goes. She’s actually done quite well.
What a wonder interview. I had seen Marta in interviews with other cast members previously so it’s informative to hear Marta on her own. I met Marta in 2015, what a nice person.
I was probably a bit young in 1965 when Lost in Space had its run but most definitely in after school afternoon reruns on our local independent station it was an afternoon staple for me. Really liked the black and white season by far as it was more science fiction and less camp. Even as a kid, the campy part was very evident in the later two seasons.
Agree. Camp has its place but only when done by experts-such as those who wrote and directed the Batman show-and especially actors like the one and only Victor (King Tut) Buono. And Jonathan Harris’ “home theater” scene in “Promised Planet” was hilarious. But excess camp antics destroyed the final season of the Avengers.
God bless Marta for grounding her narative in the venue of the 1960s with her stories of meeting the wounded from the War in Vietnam and talking about the cultural revolution that was happening simultaneously. Those of us who lived through these turbulent times find it hard to express how explosive and vibrant the world was back then.
I watched it as a boy in syndication in the 1970s and like most boys, I had a crush on Marta. It must have been fun working on the show. Jonathan Harris’ character reminded me of a kooky uncle I had.
Marta Krista's role (Judy) on Lost In Space was a very underrated character in script & storyline! I actually was surprised & taken with this interview lengthy in depth conversation.
9:20 responding to the part about kids loving it: I was Just over 2 years old in September when the show started....I was stuck to the TV and I actually learned to read the tv guide to look for where ever the next episode was coming on. And strangely, I needed the hero Professor Robinson played back then as he reminded me of My Dad. But later on in life, I began to realize how many of Life's important messages that Dr. Smith taught. Especially in the Questing Beast where Penny and Will were beginning to grow out of their childhood. Smith said one of the most astounding things when he told will; "don't Be in such a hurry to grow up. It isn't worth it". For an episode that seemed so unrealistic, that scene really made the show....and signaled the growth of Penny and Will toward adulthood. And today, I still would rather put on your re run's instead of the nonsense we have today...Lost in Space was clean and decent....although, I have noticed some adult humor in a few scenes, it was still done very well...and the sound effects are some of the best. And all of the guest cast members who would often make a simple request for us to remember them, the show had much very unique and loving style Thank You Marta Kristen
I HAD A HUGE CRUSH ON PENNY AND JUDY - I was 2 years younger than "Penny" Angela Cartright 💘 💘 and 11 years younger than "Judy" Marta 💘💘 and had a huge crush on both of them!!! Good to see you Marta! You look good being 77 now!!!!❤❤❤
what a delight! :) not sure how long ago this was filmed but she, as always, looks fantastic! it's such a shame that they believed they'd return after a hiatus but were instead quietly cancelled and no one had the guts or respect to call them and tell them it was over - shame on irwin allen :( BTW: you've spelled her name wrong, you should check & double check before you post :)
As to the show being cancelled, my understanding is that Irwin Allen had planned on adding Willoughby the Llama from Veggie Rebellion to the 4th season cast. The original script of VR was, I am told, not all that bad. The only thing I know about it is that the opening scene was to feature John and Maureen in the chariot during a storm. A draft for the season 4 opener still exists and is called "Malice in Wonderspace." In my view it is pathetic. But before that, in VR, they made the mistake of dressing Jonathan Harris up in a costume containing real celery and the animal attacked and bit him. Jonathan then refused to do any more scenes with Willoughby and thus all ten prospective scripts for season 4 were worthless as they featured the llama. The final draft of VR was of course ridiculous and the llama was replaced by James Mullhollen who was left behind on the planet. There are rumors that Irwin then considered a more serious 4th season which would have more resembled season one. Bill Mumy insists that this never happened but the report is that a 2 hour season opener entitled "The Secret of Jupiter II" was to feature Gary Conway as an alien who becomes a rival to Don for Judy's affections. A 5th season might have then featured Judy and Don getting married in space and a return to earth. But again Bill insists that this is all fantasy and never happened, Whatever the case, as Marta notes, Irwin did not present the necessary 10 scripts to CBS and the show became history despite high ratings.
Marta simply defines what all natural Nordic female beauty embodies in my view. And with that rare genetic ability that age doesn't affect her feminine perfection ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
With respect, I think she would still look awesome in the silver space suit, that I as a boy could not take my eyes off of. Remember, I said with all due respect. She's a beautiful woman inside and out.
Being Cancelled by CBS in about the same way Gilligan's Island was cancelled....they found an excuse that was not necessarily the real reason for cancelling. But Irwin Allen did not help the situation...he was obviously overwhelmed with 3 of his shows all on TV at once. All three shows including Time Tunnel were borrowing each others monster costumes and sets and fake computers lol. The scripts started to slip in quality, often boiled down to "Monster or Alien of the week." In one episode of Time Tunnel a main crew member of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea showed up as a silver painted alien [Del Monroe, "Kowalski" from the submarine]. I remember the Gilligan episode when a Robot landed on the island. Hmmm same robot as Lost in Space? Slightly altered? The Skipper called him a "Refugee from the Wizard of Oz." Hahahha. Next thing you know Timmy and Lassie will show up on space ship and land on Lost in Space's set. June Lockhart: "Timmy! I told you and Lassie to stay home and wait for your father! Timmy: "But mom, that was 3 years ago! Dad hasn't come home yet and we got worried!" Dr. Smith: [grumbling]..."Oh great! another kid, and a dog I have to play opposite to....oh the pain, the pain!"
Looking back, it was kind of sad how Marta and June's characters often got stuck making space salad, or serving space coffee, because they were space scientists! The Bloop space monkey could have been trained to do those menial space chores.
She always made me go Crazy in Lost in Space ! She was the hottest female throughout the galaxies. Just plain GORGEOUS . Her voice was like super sexy . I was 6 yrs old and ABSOLUTELY CRAZY ABOUT JUDY!!!
Marta, you are as gorgeous now as you were back then. You and the Robinson Family made my childhood in so many ways. With love and appreciation. xoxox
It was too bad that the change of focus to Will/Smith/Robot left the other actors in the background
