- In PART 2 of our vestmannaeyjar trip we find puffins and beluga whales, and have to deal with our ferry getting canceled and then being EXTREMELY seasick on the FOUR HOUR ferry ride back 😵💫
In PART 1 we hiked the Eldfell volcano, visited Eldheimar volcano museum, and visited the local brewery.

Thank you for posting and hope you guys made it back ok. This is a testament to how quickly the weather can change. We were on Westman 8/28, weather was clear, and fortunate to not have any complications. The process of the ferry was a little confusing on the way back but we followed the other cars and were able to make our trip back without issue. We also saw puffins at the same place you were at and the island was one of the highlights of our trip.
I was there back in July. It is windy! I was on an Adventure Canada ship coming from the Faroes. I had the best fish burger at a restaurant in Vestmannaeyjabær They also had a craft brewery there. The museum about the volcano was one of the most interesting museums I have ever visited anywhere. Thanks for bringing back my memories.

I have been there last in 2017, but there probably still is a hike on top of the mountains at your camp site. This one is incredible beautiful. You should go for it next time :-).
Nothing worse than seasickness, you can't wait to get back to land. I've lived in Florida my entire life, tourists will come (with no experience on the water) and sign up for all-day deep sea fishing charters, which are very expensive, and spend the entire day feeling like death.

Yikes. I'm supposed to go first week of Sept. Two nights on Westman, then a final night in Reykjavik before flying out. Now I'm worried I'll be stuck on Westman a 3rd night, not have a place to stay, then lose my $$ because didn't check in for Reyk hotel, and even worse, miss my flight. 😟
I have been watching all of your videos to prepare for an August trip. I would like to know how the volcano affects your daily life and also the tourism. Can you please do a video on the subject?

So...how much did that meal set you back? 😬
We were in Iceland in the middle/late October. Rain, rain, rain, wind, wind, wind.
We were supposed to fly from Rekjavik to Egilsstadir on the 19th but all flights were cancelled and we had to scramble to get a hotel. We got one of the last 2 rooms at the Center Hotel Arnarhvoll. However it did give us a chance to eat some real Iceland food. We walked in the rain and wind to Islenski Barinn and had fried cod skins which tasted just like the pork rinds back home. I also tried long whale meat.
The next day the weather was good for flying and we flew to Egilsstadir. I really loved that part of the island. A lot less tourists. Litlanesfoss waterfall with its basalt columns was spectacular. I was going to try to go all the way up to Henifoss, but the weather started going sour so I headed back down. Also somewhere in all the rain and bad weather I had picked up a virus and was starting to feel lousy.
I also found that the northern lights are really not that great with the naked eye and you have to take a picture with a camera leaving the shutter open to get color. My eyes just saw gray glowing lines/waves. Therefore any future trips to Iceland will be "midnight sun" trips.
