- The Westmann Islands are an archipelago off the coast of South Iceland full of bright colored houses, puffins, local restaurants and a brewery - all on a little volcanic island! The ferry ride over is only 35 minutes from the mainland making this the perfect day trip from Reykjavik.
Join us for PART 1 of our camper van adventure to Heimaey - the only inhabited island of Vestmannaeyjar. We hike the Eldfell volcano, visit Eldheimar volcano museum, and visit the local brewery.
Stay tuned for PART 2 where we find puffins and beluga whales, and deal with our ferry getting canceled and then being EXTREMELY seasick on the way back 😵💫

Enjoyed the video and looking forward to Part 2. Westman is definitely worth seeing for those that have the time. We were there for a day-trip at end of August and it was great. Followed a local recommendation to have lunch at Vigtin Bakhus and then to the Sea Life Trust to see the rescue animals, and then up to the lighthouse where we did see puffins. It was one of the highlights of the trip. The ferry was super convenient and booked ahead to drive right on/off each time.

What was once my great grandfather's farm is buried under that lava flow. They left about 1882. My cousins husbands great grandfather's farm was next door

We're on a cruise that stops in Heimaey from 8am to 4pm for the day on June 9 and I'd like to book an excursion with a local vendor but I can't seem to find any. Are there local vendors that offer excursions to cruisers in Iceland? We are also stopping in Djupivogur. Thanks!

The next day we captured a delightful image of Kirkjufellfoss between downpours. My wife and I enjoyed savings and great service from Blue Car Rentals, after your recommendation. We were there 10 nights last week.
We drove around the whole country. Everyone said it was early winter. We had some wild driving days.
We highly recommend it.
Side note- people need to be warned about the rental cars. Ours ran on diesel but the only indicator of that was a small, white label, on a white door of the gas tank. We made the mistake of using gas. We paid for the repair and the rental company still dinged us over $40.000 Krona.
