I'm a punk rocker and I watch your videos! MDC's - S/T is probably my favorite album. But, Epitaphs's Punk-o-Rama volume 2 and Fat Wreck Chords Physical Fatness were the first two punk compilations I owned and showed me the door to the fine world of punk. Please bring Ricky back.
WOW! My dad is a huge punk rock fan (or he was😂) But my top 3 are: TSOL - Change Today? Toy Dolls - She Goes To Finos Subhumans - The Day The Country Died
One of the most rare and expensive hardcore punk 7” is probably the og Negative Approach s/t ep. That bad motherfucker goes for $3,000 last I checked. One of my favorite bands too.
DKs is either a frankenstein or a boot or you were stung. the orange cover was specific to the 1st US edition and biafra had it pulled as it was not his original design intention. was supposed to be black but IRS took liberties. the white vinyl version 1st appeared in the UK in 1981, a year and a half after it was initially issued on cherry red. also, police truck was issued on the orange US version and not the UK one. check your matrix #s on that DKs.
Searching For A Former Clarity has been my favorite Against Me! album since it first came out. Since then, I've had the opportunity to interview the band a couple of times, but that album remains the high water mark, for me. "Where should you start with punk"? Essential listening should be (in no particular order): Dead Boys - Young, Loud and Snotty Richard Hell and The Voidoids - Blank Generation Patti Smith - Horses Rancid - And Out Come The Wolves NOFX - Punk In Drublic Misfits - Walk Among Us Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard In My Backyard X - either Los Angeles or Wild Gift The Cramps - Bad Music For Bad People Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks... The Germs - (GI) The Bags - All Bagged Up Butthole Surfers - start with either Electriclarryland or Locust Abortion Technician Circle Jerks - Group Sex The Stooges - Fun House The Clash - London Calling
Over the pond, early Brit Punk Rock by bands that only released a limited number of records, mainly singles, are going for an absolute fortune. The prices have sky rocketed in recent years. Anything rare to do with the Sex Pistols, original posters, even badges are going for insane prices. In the UK there were also a few books printed in 77/78 like, 100 Nights at the Roxy which is also worth crazy amounts of money.
I can’t decide just one punk album to rule them all but by sub genre: Classic: London Calling - The Clash (obvious but it is still awesome) Proto: Funhouse/Raw Power - The Stooges (Honourable mention to White light/White heat though) Modern: Joy as An Act Of Resistance - IDLES ( I know it’s only months old but it’s definitely a future classic) Hardcore: Damaged - Black Flag Post-Hardcore: Repeater - Fugazi Pop-Punk: Dookie - Green Day (I’m basic) Emotional Hardcore: Diary - Sunny Day Real Estate Riot Grrrl: Dit Me Out - Sleater Kinney Grunge (Somewhat cheating probably but this album is so punk in attitude I can’t admit it): In Utero- Nirvana I think that’s concise enough!
No Minor Threat? I bought the Minor Threat Filler EP in 1981. It wasn't till I looked it up on Discogs 2 years ago did I realize that my red cover was a first pressing on Discord. I never thought I would sell it for as much as I asked but I did. $1300. Of course now they are going for $2500. But what can I say, I paid $3 for it. Wish I had bought two!
I Was Born in Gold Beach Oregon. DKs East Bay Rays 🎸 Mom Lived in Eureka Calif.130 Miles Away. I Feel Blessed 2 Have Seen The DKs .. So Many Times .. Thanks Mom 🎸
I just don’t understand pulling out and then shoving back in a rare first press of anything into a shitty cheap paper inner sleeve.. .”oh yeah so I’ve got this rare 1st press Dead Kennedy’s with orange cover” ..then proceeds to slide it in and out of shitty paper sleeve. Spend $20 on inner sleeves to protect all these records and many, many, many more!
*allstopblue * I could not agree more. I have been a record collector for almost 45 years now. Every album I now have left has a 5 mill plastic sleeve inside of it. Those cheap white paper liners will leave lots of surface wear on your regular black vinyl records, Trust me! As far as the Colored Vinyl goes, It doesn't matter as much for 2 reasons. (1). When the record is black vinyl you can see surface wear very easily. (2). When the record is Colored, You only can't really see it but, Colored Vynil records don't have excellent quality, Like Picture Disc they were made to show off and collect, Not really play because there is a ton of noise distortion on these records.
I have to pick just one? Hmmm. The Damned "Machine Gun Etiquette." No, wait! Buzzcocks "Singles Going Steady." No, wait! TSOL "Dance With Me." No, wait . . .
bought 2 copies of against me's self titled album from laura jane grace on myspace in 2007 for 30 dollars total, i messaged them to see if they had any copies left and apparently they had found a stack in the closet at sabot HQ - gave the second copy to my friend for his 16th birthday and sold my copy years later when i needed to pay rent
Im been a subscriber to your channel for years. These are fine Punk records. But when you start talking early Dischord records, those things fetch a hefty price tag. Also, Ebullition, Gravity, etc proved that punk in the 90s wasnt Green Day. Check out Moss Icon, Indian Summer, Spazz, Still Life, Jeromes Dream, Saetia, Born Against, Heroin. The evolution of hardcore into emotive hardcore in something I have been fascinated with for years.
Too Many Records perfect album! 🖤🖤🖤 then I’d say X Ray Spex, The Damned, The Clash and Ramones are classics, and Plasmatics are good starting points! I also agree with the other comment, early Dischord records!
Actually, many people would consider them, alongside Patti Smith and others, to be proto punk. I say start at the beginning if you wanna get into a genre.
When I was collecting punk rock records I would go to Doctor Strange.com it’s a record store in Rancho Cucamonga The stuff I would collect was mostly 70s UK punk rock
It's not a 'demo" its a "promo" copy. Also, "Carbona, not Glue" was removed because of a trademark issue, not a copyright issue. That DK 's record is NOT a first pressing. The first pressing was on Cherry Red records. The "Disneyland Orange" version was a later pressing, but still a very early one.
My local record shop owner in their smug arrogance when I mentioned I had a rare vinyl says to me well actually these aren’t rare since they were sold to the public really only rare vinyl’s are “test pressings or promo pressings” which on average only 20 or so are printed per album…ok bud 😂
I have quite a few DKs records in immaculate condition. Lots of punk records from the 70s.On about promos ,i have emergency by 999 which says on the record. Not for retail sale.
There was a Dead Kennedy's 40th Anniversary show in SF just announced with Dwarves and M.D.C. if you guys wanted to driveca couple hours to see them or check it out just saying looks like its gonna be a good show.
rare punk albums i would include the subhumans -incorrect thoughts , the effigies -haunted town, channel one- i gotta gun, DOA something better change and hardcore 81
Punk rock rare record collecting is a complete spectrum. You knowledge on record collecting is vast but it seems like you struggle with the basics, if you want a great local store since it looks like you go to Amoeba. Check out Doctor Strange Records. They specialize in rare punk and adjacent genres.
Vintage Punk Rock is the best.... Here's two rare lps to look into... THE DICTATORS. : FD DF LP AND JOHNNY MOPED LP their blueprints for what was about to become punk
I have a version of Heaven and the Sea by Pete Shelley which is amazing. The music is very good but the sleeve is better again. The plastic on the drawing can be moved and when I do it, the drawing seems to move. Side A and side B have different concepts. Good luck to find it.
I thought these were supposed to be rare (hard to find albums) not promo copy’s limited edition and mistake albums I mean there rare but I was kinda expecting something else ....just saying 🤷🏻
one biggest mistake you guys doing is focus on US bands while for me personally the best punk/oi bands are from UK. where is sex pistols, exploited, partisans, skrewdriver (early years) ?....just to mention few favourite. and if you are looking for rare stuff...then try to buy on discogs some oi/rac bands (not all rac bands play punk style....but many yes). no chance since some crazy people blocked so many. thats why challange is not only price, but where to get it. to have also positive point: from what you presented, I will probaly buy Dead Kennedys as I like this band (I have few vinyls of DK) ...though they never beat Exploited (its known they do not like each other). I have almost everything what Exploited released on vinyls. its my favourite punk band (early years).
I watch all of your videos and dig them all however you should stay away from punk. As a punk purist I must say it's a tad annoying watching someone act like they know a lot about the topic of punk. I know I know I am sounding like an elitist old man. Ha ha ha! Sorry
What's your FAVORITE Punk album?
Rudimentary Peni - Death Church LP (1983)
Ramones self titled...…..the best punk album......ever

The Murder Of Liddle Towers by the Angelic Upstarts 1st pressing on their own blank label is mega rare..
Plastic Surgery Disasters is my personal favorite punk album. Love the lyrics, excellent performances, and still unique and relevant to this day.
KILL THE POOR
Try this: "Nina Hagen Band"

That's right. You know what's up.
Yea this had me second guessing myself. I have 2 freshfruit first editions and they def arent orange. And i never heard of a white first ed either.
I remember getting that orange one as soon as it was out ...the black came later
That Against Me 12' is very cool. I enjoyed this video and will order the book. I actually did a video on the 100 Best Punk Albums.
You the man vinyl Richie I watch all your videos!
Vinyl is cool...
Searching For A Former Clarity has been my favorite Against Me! album since it first came out. Since then, I've had the opportunity to interview the band a couple of times, but that album remains the high water mark, for me.
"Where should you start with punk"? Essential listening should be (in no particular order):

Richard Hell and The Voidoids - Blank Generation
Patti Smith - Horses
Rancid - And Out Come The Wolves
NOFX - Punk In Drublic

Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks...

Hardcore: Damaged - Black Flag
Post-Hardcore: Repeater - Fugazi
Pop-Punk: Dookie - Green Day (I’m basic)
Emotional Hardcore: Diary - Sunny Day Real Estate
Riot Grrrl: Dit Me Out - Sleater Kinney

I think that’s concise enough!
The most punk album from Nirvana is Bleach.
@@derekwilliams1660 was gonna say that. Bleach is badass
N.M.T.B. rules U.K. albums for me.

Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for rotten vegetables.
I have that orange pressing with the old band pic! Such a score
I would have to say my favorite punk record is Everything Sucks by Descendents
I wanna see the obscure stuff! Bring him back.
I have to pick just one? Hmmm. The Damned "Machine Gun Etiquette." No, wait! Buzzcocks "Singles Going Steady." No, wait! TSOL "Dance With Me." No, wait . . .
Another great video! Gained some knowledge, thanks

I guess my favorite is Rehtorit: Hiljaa. And of course some classic ones from Clash, Ramones, Misfits...
Thanks for this fun video.

Been looking for that exact dead kennedys pressing! Weird he didn't choose to show off any Minor Threat records
I'm sure he has plenty.
Start with Television-Marquee Moon. Perfect album front to back
I've talked about Marquee Moon in a video!!

It's more post punk instead of straight punk rock, in my opinion.
That's not punk rock

Start with Minor Threat and Operation Ivy
NOFX is dope AF you should totally get into them if you aren't.
nobody got a copy of The Damned StretcherCase Baby/Sick of Being Sick, on Ebay for a couple of hundred quid
Black is the first, Orange is the second press (dk)
I listen to punk and I hate the ramones
ahhh touching the grooves, no man dont do it
Although there are some 12" pressings that have collectable value the majority of them just take up space in ones pad 🤣🤣
I got my first pressing fresh fruit on eBay for $20 because the sleeve was water damaged. The record is in perfect shape though
Bought mine the week it was released for 7.99
I want to have a drink with these guys
I have 2 rare punk lps both are The birthday party which was Nick Cave's first band
