  • The on/off ignition button on my 2016 Honda HRV began failing, so this is a replacement tutorial. This is a common issue with this vehicle and other Honda’s so hopefully this is helpful to others. It took all of five minutes and $50 and it’s as good as new.

Sir, thank you so much for this video. I just ordered the parts and the tools so I'll give you an update when I change it. I have a 2016 HRV and that light has been on for a bit so I'm relieved that I found a solution. I'll keep you posted.

FYI this part was officially recalled by Honda so you should be able to bring your car to the dealer and they'll replace the part for free

@@svtferrari I did get the notification from Honda. But the joke is that my mileage is way over. Then they wanted to charge me $250 to fix it. I changed it out with the video you made for $56 between the tools and the part. Thanks again so much for your video. Though you didn't make it just for me, I thank God that yours was the one that came up in my search. Thanks again and God bless you.

@@onyx7591 Glad it helped! I was able to submit the receipt for the part to Honda and they reimbursed me for it as well.

no need to replace. just clean it with contact cleaner. usually it wasn't damage. just dirty inside🙏

Just did this. Dealer replaced 3 years ago under recall. Obviously a manufacturing defect that allows moisture to enter into the switch. Expect to replace this every 3 years.
My symptoms involved the car randomly trying to start itself and the alarm going off.

Thanks for video. I'm going to send the $40 bill to Honda, I didn't want to go to the dealership and wait. Wish me luck.

I did that and sent them the Amazon receipt and they're going to reimburse me, so you should be able to!

Simple fix for this problem is to press the button completely and spray a plastic safe electrical cleaning aerosol into the bottom edges.
Let the electrical cleaner set until it's completely dry.
Your switch will work as if it were brand new again.
    I used CRC Electro Clean....

Were you getting key symbol on the dash? My car won’t start and I wondering now if it’s the key switch

Yep, it usually starts taking multiple pushes of the button to start the car until it eventually stops working entirely

I got a warranty extension notice on the switch.

Same here. Well… I had to call Honda in order to find that out. They said if the button turned out not to be the issue, it would cost $130 CAD for the diagnostic test 🤯

@@craigrigby-williams5601 I ended up getting one from Amazon - swapped it out and problem solved. Then I disassembled the old one, cleaned the contacts and gave them a coat of electrolytic grease. That one is now in my glove box to be swapped out if/when the problem comes back.
